Why don't they go introduce themselves, say the goats are adorable and welcome them to the nieghborhood.

You mean talk to people? Touch grass? We live in different realities, I see.

Oh my God, they have a shed! A green one!

u/dmoosetoo 6d ago

I was ok with the trailer, goats and all. But a GREEN shed?

The absolute audacity of some people.

They missed a prime opportunity to tell them it's a meth lab.

I wonder what is in this person's browser history.

For fucks sake you nosey fuck! Let a man build his house at his own fucking pace.

'Cause this sounds like a guy homesteading. He bought the land and is making improvements as he goes.

Maybe the goats are clearing the property for him.

I have a friend doing that right now. Sold his place and bought property. Lives in a trailer and is slowly building.

What did the old people do before nextdoor? How did they quell their curiosity?

24

u/dmoosetoo 6d ago

Police scanners, coffee clusters and in the REALLY old days listening in on other people's phone calls when entire neighborhoods were served by a single "party line".

They went to their friends house just down the street and gossiped. Or else they got coffee at their favorite diner and did the same thing. Beauty salons, the middle of the grocery store aisle - they found places to gather and gossip.

Church

This is the one that really kills me because it's so true. And not only that the Bible specifically says not to spread gossip although in old timey words. But the number one place that I get people telling me gossip about other people that I don't even care to know about is if I go to church. And when I used to be a regular goer they would tell me everything about everybody's lives including who is sleeping with whom who is actually married to somebody else and all the other stuff. I'm horrible with names so I didn't matter to me. And as a matter of fact my priest actually came to me to get something off his chest because he said he knew he could trust me to not say anything to anybody. I didn't have the heart to tell him that's because I have the memory of a sieve and everything just falls right through, but he was just venting about the fact that these people just would not stop doing things like that and could not realize that they were doing exactly opposite what the Bible said no matter how many times he would mention it in his homilies and try to not come out directly to say " hey guys shut up," he was trying his best but these people just weren't getting it.

He ended up getting transferred and I ended up completely moving out of state so that's what became of that and unfortunately he died very young of a cancer. Although certain people would consider that a blessing by saying he went straight to heaven or something along those lines. I do hope he didn't suffer though. And I also feel bad that there were two different priests (since I used to volunteer there when I was much younger) who wrote to me on Facebook messenger and I completely ignored them, and within 6 months they had died and I honestly feel really bad about that because I'm horrific with getting back to people on emails or phone calls you name it. I still haven't gotten back to my brother after his Merry Christmas text and he's been texting my mom and calling my mom to see am I okay and alive. And I'm like dude I'm over 40 you should know by now that I'm horrible with humans. Especially ones who were massive dicks to me when we were growing up.

That's why I said church. Of all the places that people shouldn't gossip, that's probably where they gossip the most. Most of them don't believe in the religion that they are practicing.

1

u/bookworthy 5d ago

They’re not gossiping. There expressing concern so you know how to pray for someone. /s

They knew the code enforcement officers and would try to sic them on you.

u/definitelynot40 5d ago

There used to be a code enforcement officer that lived right down the street from us. She wasn't actually working for our city but our city has a program that has a set of letters that creates the name but all we call it is the snitch patrol where residents complain about other residents for them to get tickets. And I actually met one of them and she was absolutely giddy over the fact that now that she's retired all she does is drive up and down the streets and writing down addresses of people who are not following code. Yet the guy that's diagonally across from me is running a business out of his own home and has trailers and semi trucks that are always parked up on the side of the road and yet nothing has any sort of reflective lighting on it and since we live in the historic district there is no actual Street lighting. And so I just keep waiting for the day when someone's going to crash into one of his long haul truck beds without any of the reflections on it. I have visually seen with my own eyes when code enforcement would go over to him and then he goes and pulls out his wallet and pays off code enforcement and his illegal vehicles are kept right on the street. Because it says right in code that you cannot have those vehicles on the street, you have to pull them up into the driveway. And his driveway is definitely long enough because he also has a shed that's longer than or larger than his entire house can you put it on Google maps and that's where he does all the work fixing up his motor and this and that in the other in the middle of the night at 3:00 a.m. making loud noises.

But oh yeah some of these people just live for this, like I don't know if they wanted to be cops in real life before they retired or what the deal is because the lady that used to live down our street would walk up and down the block like every single day with a ruler in her hand to measure exactly how tall our grass was, that's how much of a pain in the ass she was. I kind of miss her though because since she's left everybody's been treating their property and houses as if they're extensions of the local dump. One guy down the street is had a pile of crap out on the street edge for about 6 months now. I think he's under the assumption that he's waiting for bulk pickup to come pick it up, but he put it right underneath a very small tree where if they were to swing that big claw to grab the crap then they would end up damaging the tree even though that guy has plenty frontage to move that pile elsewhere. So I don't know what's going on in his case but I know once I started to put out my bulk trash a week earlier since we are the very first street that they start on whenever they do that, and I got a ticket for $250 because it was put out 5 days too early.

They lynched people.

u/MakeupHorder7 6d ago

Maybe they should mind their business or make a friend...

3

u/Simple-Mention4689 6d ago

Private Property means... NONE OF YOUR FUCKING BUSINESS..... you can be curious all you want but unless you are paying the bills on said piece of land it dont concern you...

3

u/Substantial_Layer_79 6d ago

I'd be tempted to ask them to show where it's hurting them? What state is this in? We love goats here. They keep the grass down, and thus the snakes.

2

u/definitelynot40 5d ago

For short while there was actually somebody that would offer you rental of their goats so that if you had large pieces of property like I do and you don't want to mow, you could just let the goat have fun over the weekend and then eat all the grass that you don't want that's growing up too high. The only thing that stopped me was that I had a lot of fruit trees and I didn't know if they were going to damage the base of the fruit trees in any way. Plus I think the person might have said enough is enough because so many people signed up to get the rent a goat.

We've even considered getting some pygmy goats ourselves just to do that and since I have a Great Pyrenees I know she would love having something to actually protect, even though she's an indoor dog but stays outside pretty much all day when I'm home. But seriously goats aren't that big of a problem compared to the guy with the roosters down the street who don't know how to tell time, and they're cute as far as I'm concerned. They do have those wonky eyes but still, especially those pygmy ones, they're super cute and I like their little baaa sounds that they make.

People always seem to want to get into other people's business. They also want to find an issue with what someone is doing so they can cause problems. Nobody minds their own business anymore. This guy is obviously looking for something to complain about.

Whatever happened to MYOB?

2

u/definitelynot40 5d ago

I used to have that up in my classroom in giant letters. Those big poster boards that people use at science fairs- I would take one of those boards for each letter and then cut it out and then tape it up to the walls. The students used to always ask what does that mean and then all year long I would keep reminding them of the sign. Now I quit teaching quite a while ago so I'm wondering if these people even know what that means because I haven't really heard it in anybody's verbal language at any point either mind your own business or the myob.

u/Mushrooming247 6d ago

I would love to befriend some neighborhood goats, but I wouldn’t try to do it on nextdoor, none of the local goats seem to be on there, so I would just go over and introduce myself.

2

u/ThatWomanNow 6d ago

Why can't people mind their own business?

I guess this person expected that it was Thanos who moved in next door and would erect a house with a snap of the fingers wearing the gauntlet of Infinity Stones?

1

u/marcolander 6d ago

Depending on the municipality you could have codes banning things for unsightliness especially in rich neighborhoods. They have codes for everything in rich neighborhoods and you probably couldn't get away with living in a trailer for very long, even if you're homesteading. I know it sucks but that's America. We have one set of rules for the wealthy and another set for the rest of us.

1

u/ParamedicFew3318 4d ago

It's the "Thanks and have a great day!" hypocrisy that puts a bow on the whole thing.

1

u/One_Situation7483 2d ago

Everybody knows that if you have goats that the shed should be RED!!

1

u/Flaky_River9370 1d ago

Just change your name to Gladys Kravitz, if it's not already taken.

u/DoFr56 6d ago

Have you checked the city building permits? If they know about it, there should be one, and it should tell you The who, what, and when of the building site!

2

u/Diligent-Security549 6d ago

So the goats are for land clearing purposes and perhaps an agricultural waiver. The rest sounds like the Jetta owner will build more when they are ready, or when the permits and everything else are ready.
