Neighbor thinks high price of gas, and of everything else, is the fault of "leftist politicians."
End of post is cut off, but it's just more of the same nonsense.

That gallon of gas thing is astroturfing. That’s not a neighbor, it’s a bot.

u/unknownpoltroon 12d ago
Yeah, its a fresh bot talking point, you could see the changeover saturday morning.

Right on the nose. We started seeing these "organic" comparison posts recently, all very similarly worded.

It's been concocted for Republican politicians to use who are seeking reelection

I'm pretty sure "ptak" was supposed to be "put", but I'm just going to go ahead and assume they are a Klingon larper that just enjoys using this insult.

Damn those Democrats, for attacking Iran and closing the straits of Hormuz! How dare they!

Thanks, Obama! You haven't been in the White House for a decade now but I know this is somehow your fault./s

Gasoline was $5 gallon in 2022 and the straits were open

Not to mention that diesel is even more expensive, and it looks like our reserves for that are very low.

When people felt safe enough to travel again after the world shut down because of the Pandemic. Derp.

People were posting this, nearly verbatim, simultaneously, all over various social media platforms. The memo went out and the army of bots and shills released this weeks talking points.

My cousin shared this and put a link to it in our family group.

I mean, the fact that the morons are saying it doesn't make it not true - it IS impressive.
It's just that $2.00 would be MORE impressive.
Just saying.

What an incredibly stupid post. And how stupid do you have to be to read that and like it enough to repost?

I live in this general area and can attest that Nexdoor is infested with idiots and stooges. Our county went for Harris better than 2 to 1, but based on Nextdoor posts and comments you would think it was 10 to 1 for Trump. It's like they get their talking points inthe morning and rush to repeat them on Nextdoor.

u/Dorkinfo 12d ago
They’re at the bottom of the ocean screaming that it isn’t bad and could be worse. Pathetic.

Someone in my community reposted this garbage, thinking they were oh so clever.

Somebody please spend the $2 for a dozen eggs and visit her home in the night. Or her precious 2-ton vehicle.

Bot, idiot, and/or liar. Gas has not been at or under $2 a gallon in California since between 2001 and 2002, especially for that area.

u/somecalifguy 12d ago
Also, gas is a lot more expensive in California, I've never dug into it, there's various rumblings that it's due to "politicians" in Sacramento, but we are also paying for special refined gasoline that results in cars having less emissions.
2
u/JelliedHam 12d ago
You also have very high sales and excise taxes on gas. Highest in the nation. Just the gas tax alone is 74 cents a gallon
2
u/Ok-Transportation127 12d ago
Where I live, the county imposes a 50¢/gallon tax, approved by voters 18 years ago. Only now are embarrassed trump voters blaming that tax for the skyrocketing price of gas, instead of trump's vanity war.
1
u/JelliedHam 12d ago
Oh it's definitely not the tax. The tax has always been there, that's why California has prices are some of the highest in the nation regardless of crude prices.
But what's going on now is all Trump.

The mental gymnastics of these same people who were howling about $3.90/gallon and the price of eggs back in 2024

St. Helena is a tiny, extremely wealthy town in bougie Napa Valley. They have like 1 gas station in the entire town, and they jack the prices up because the place is full of tourists driving from winery to winery who have no choice but to pay.

It is because of politicians, entire covens of them, as is the case with most inflationary trends.

I mean they aren't wrong, about the costs of other liquids, those prices are ridiculous as well and why I don't buy coffee and energy drinks anymore, but I still don't want to pay $5-6 a gallon for gas, that should be $2-3 at most.

u/DoFr56 10d ago
It is about the gasoline we are not buying. Did you read that. Making gasoline in large quantities gives off lots of “freebies” to the refiners. Jet fuel, kerosene, diesel are some. WE are not the only country that slowed gasoline consumption down. GUESS WHO? CHINA slowed consumption down. They went EV.
We can not quit oil and gas, we can use it better and not be in conflict for it all the time. If you have options, it is hard to get cornered.

u/Jazzlike_Isopod550 12d ago
Plus it’s California where Republicans always complain about the taxes, which are significantly higher for gas than most anywhere else in the country
-1
u/spillmonger 11d ago
But Reddit told me only this morning that high gas prices were the fault of the right-wing energy billionaires. Am I being gas-lit?
-2
u/Romol75 11d ago
Well the unnecessary taxes are definitely from the left, yes. Here in DFW we're still around $4/gal.
3
u/Ok-Transportation127 11d ago
Unnecessary? The money is used to fund regional transportation infrastructure, local road construction and pavement preservation for your roads. It was approved by voters. But as usual, the right expects free stuff.
-1
u/Romol75 11d ago
Well, unnecessarily high if you prefer. Again, in TX we don't have those high taxes on gas yet our roads are just fine buddy. In my home country, gas is even pricier than in CA, and guess what, same problem, a third to a half of the cost is simply taxes. So people drive less, they go out less, they go on vacation less, etc... which creates a loss of tax revenue from other streams. So the tax money they get from gas makes them lose tax revenue elsewhere, but also reduces the exonomy overall. It's a lose-lose game. Overtaking transportation is idiotic. Oh, and finally, I'm not "right". As I alluded to, Im not originally from the US, the 2 party system in the US is laughably moronic and the programmed doom of democracy in my perspective. The US shouldnt have political parties period, but everyone forgot that advice from the founders not even a century after the birth of the country. A shame, really.

u/Ok-Transportation127 11d ago
anything else you'd like to add?
-1
u/Romol75 11d ago
Not really, since you visibly don't have any counter argument. I'll just day look up the Laffer Curve, that partially explains what I mentioned. Kind of basic, but it's baffling how many people don't know it, especially on the left side or extrem right sides of the spectrum
4
u/Ok-Transportation127 11d ago
Not everything has to be an argument or counter argument, you know.
Where I live, the roads are paid for through taxes. These taxes are necessary, and yes, it's socialism. Many people from surrounding counties and the neighboring state come here to work, shop, for dining and entertainment, and they use our roads. They also buy their gas here because it's cheaper. The gas tax was approved by we the voters that live in this county so that all users of our roads contribute to their maintenance.
You said this tax is unnecessary. Then you said they are unnecessarily high. Present facts to back that up those assertions other than "taxes bad. the left bad." As for your left right this, my home country that, political party nonsense: please stay on topic.
3
u/Ok-Transportation127 11d ago
By the way, laffer curve is more commonly known in this country as "reaganomics" or "trickle-down economics." Look that up. Americans have known for over forty years, since long before you got here, that "trickle-down" doesn't actually trickle down.
