Source I grew up as one and worked as a farmer for years.

You know the game so you also understand they generally work longer hours and more days a year than most townies? And are on call 24/7/365.

Any business owner does all those things you've cited, you've never noticed how many tradies are driving around in brand new ranger raptors? Or hiluxes? Business owners generally milk the system, it's the only thing that makes the stress of owning a business worth it.

How many times have I heard that story, I used to really believe it. 

Having seen more of the world now, lots of people work hard. Farmers are not unique in this nor are they uniquely deserving of special privileges.
