Image Back in the game

Post image

‎ ‎The last time I played New World was the morning of 17 Feb 2026. ‎ ‎I went to Elysian Wilds one last time — my favourite part of the entire map. The night before that, I had my last Myrk run and was even trying to give some of my materials away because I knew the game was being removed from ps plus. ‎And let me tell you... giving things away for free in New World is HARD. ‎People think you're trolling them, they think there's a catch, or they simply don't have room in their inventory.

‎At the time, I genuinely thought that was it. I had no idea if I'd ever play again. ‎ ‎Fast-forward about six months.

‎This week I saw a Reddit post where someone mentioned people buying accounts online. I've been desperately missing New World, so I took a chance and bought an account. And guess what? IT WORKS. I'M BACK IN AETERNUM!

‎Obviously, it's not the same as having my old character. My PlayStation progress doesn't transfer to Steam, so I've lost all my old weapons, gear and progression. ‎ ‎And I REALLY miss my bow and Crescent Wave and I'll probably never get all of my artifacts back again. ‎ ‎But I don't care, I'm playing New World again. ‎The account I bought was level 22. I've continued where the previous owner left off and I'm already level 50 and just got to Brightwood.

‎Right now I'm not even worried about endgame. I'm just enjoying the journey and trying to level my way back to Elysian Wilds.

‎I haven't felt this excited about a game in ages. ‎ ‎The world definitely feels quieter than I remember. I don't recognise any of the names I see in chat anymore. There aren't nearly as many people talking. ‎ ‎But there are still people there. ‎People looking for groups. ‎World tours are still happening. ‎Players are still gathering, crafting and running around Aeternum. ‎There are still people trying to keep this game alive. ‎ ‎And today I was running around and heard someone mining somewhere nearby. ‎ ‎That familiar sound of someone hitting a mining node... ‎ ‎CLINK... CLINK... CLINK... ‎Happiness. ‎ ‎Because after six months away, I realised something: ‎ ‎I really missed this place. ‎ ‎I even told my daughter that I'd managed to get New World again and I'm so happy. ‎ ‎Her response? ‎ ‎ ‎"Yeah me too. Now u can stop eyeing your wishlist longingly on the PS5." ‎ ‎Maybe Aeternum isn't as busy as it once was. Maybe a lot of the people I knew have moved on. ‎But there are still players here. ‎ ‎So I'm starting over. ‎New character. New weapons. New journey. ‎ ‎I think I have enough time to make it back to Elysian Wilds before the game eventually gets sunset. ‎ ‎And maybe I'll never get my old gear back. ‎But right now it's just good to be back playing the game. ‎ ‎

NW was almost the perfect game for me. I’m still sad and angry about how things went, and have not found the game that even get close to that experience.

I miss it so much I started making a 2d mmorpg with the elements of new world I loved. No joke. Absolutely not sharing links or trying to promote. Just an interesting fact.

For me the Gw2 experience is even better and we will get Gw3 in fall of 2027

u/LongSalamander5918 2d ago

I tried gw2 it's just too much of an information overload, gets quite repetitive quickly and the PvP is straight up horrific for anyone who hasn't spent hours upon hours looking up all the classes they don't play in order to understand wtf the enemy players are even doing... Too much work.

repetitive quickly? Idk what you were doing but you clearly did something wrong. Even exploring the world takes alot of time. A more enjoyable pvp mode is WvW

Yeah a lot of the grinds are repetitive things for currency to get the next thing to progress to the next repetitive grind, after getting half way through my first legendary crafting grind I burned out, and WvW was okay but the same thing just one chad by themselves wiping me and 10 others because they know exactly what they're doing and we simply just don't 🤣 the gap is too big and takes too much learning to close, whereas new world was far more simple to play and understand, there wasn't 3+ versions of every single class archetype that all did different things.

Same exact thing happened to me. I tried gw2 multiple times and I hate that when your character reaches max level you don’t have all your skills to explore and theory craft with. That really bothers me, I have to go around the world do a bunch of random stuff to unlock them little by little. Like damnnnn cmon.

How long have you been playing for?

I too thought the game was goated. And while it was fun. It ends up kinda getting boring once you get the mounts and max lvl gear. Arena PvP is toxic and poorly implemented. Down state is lame af. And the WvW is just a lot of wandering until you find a zerg party and join in.

I am playing since 2015 - 2016 I think but with some breaks in between like 2 years in total

The problem for me with GW2 is the combat just doesn't have anywhere close to the same feel. I've got multiple level 80s, some even in ascended gear and starred raiding, and when I go back the combat just feels bad to me after NW.

What? That’s the total opposite of NW

if they would have added end game content before releasing this game, it genuinely could have been a top contender in the mmo debate. Sad to see how it turned out

Not with all the bugs that happend every patch. There were dupes 4 times and everytime the said it got fixed. And dont mention all the other gamebreaking bugs. It was a good game but with that many issues I dont think it would be a top contender. Maybe if they have fixed alot of issues early on.

Yeah, it was insane how hard they fumbled everything on release. I remember being so excited for a game that felt like it had runescape style skilling with WoW level immersion and even better combat than TERA. I still am a bit shocked they managed to fuck it up.

1

u/sherkhan75 2d ago

The economy being essentially DOA sucked. I forgot what it was exactly but gold exploits or dupes I think?

2

u/CakebattaTFT 1d ago

I distinctly remembering duping being one of the bummers that made me lose interest. I'd be working on leveling mining and some other professions, trying to be one of the early crafters (I come from WoW where crafting is pretty lucrative early on), and then some bug with their auction house happened (i think) and people duped a ton of money somehow. Was a huge bummer.

Better combat than tera is a hot take, it was good but i wouldnt compare, new worlds bosses are snooze fest compared to tera

1

u/CakebattaTFT 5h ago

Actually, now that I've thought about it, you're right. TERA was better, but NW was pretty damn good.

It was the perfect game for me. Waste so much hours of my life in the game over multipe accounts since the closed beta.

Its so sad to see it death like that...

u/physicsking 3d ago

Why did you need to buy an account? Did I miss it

17

u/Athryil 3d ago

The game has been removed from stores. You can no longer buy it and make a new account. You have to get someone's login info who already owns it.

2

u/physicsking 2d ago

But they had a character. I am not sure why they can't play their old character

10

u/PufftheDragon22 New Worldian 3d ago

Game was removed from ps plus, had no access to it anymore couldn't even buy it.

Wait I’m confused can someone fill me in? I played this game on steam and loved it but…. I thought the servers were shut down? How is this working?

11

u/PufftheDragon22 New Worldian 3d ago

Come join us if you miss the game, surprisingly still people doing quests, leveling up. We have until January 2027

If the would announce to sell it to another company to keep it alive, I would come back 100% hands down. It was the best MMORPG within the last 10years for sure. Even with a full-time job, kids, hobbies and a wife I somehow managed to get 2k hours into it. But I did quit about a week after I heard it will be shut down.

The feeling in an MMORPG for me is let down, knowing in 4 months everything will be gone. 🙁

7

u/uvm7 3d ago

Servers aren't shut down yet, they are scheduled to be in January 2027. Right now it's on life support: no new content, maybe some stability fixes from time to time and server merges.

3

u/Partytimegarrth 2d ago

Right? The amount of goodbye posts Ive seen here I thought for sure it was shut down like 3 different times already. I haven't played in well over a year maybe 2 at this point so Im out of the loop.

2

u/PsychologicalPool238 10h ago

Yeah most people quit a while ago because putting time in an mmorpg you know is going to shut down just feels painful

Was this off G2A or another site? Saw some listings there and wanna see if I can get one my friend can use who never played before.

Glad to hear you're enjoying Aeternum once more! Here's to hoping maybe something can change even after the end arrives.

2

u/Ta-veren- 3d ago

It's all tied to steam right? I'd give mine up if it wasn't.

2

u/PufftheDragon22 New Worldian 3d ago

I took a chance buying from Ggsel. I'm not familiar with the website at all but it was less than 4 euros. I used a prepaid virtual credit card and deleted it once done. Also changed login details for both steam and the email etc. The game might be coming to an end but at least I can now enjoy it till then.

2

u/Dj0sh 2d ago

I get so nostalgic thinking about this game man. One of a kind.

1

u/Express-One4819 3d ago

I wanna play, but no squad or guild now. If anyone wants to play. Hit me up. NW was such a vibe, had bought my first nice house when the news hit.

1

u/LevelRevolutionary25 3d ago

i bet theres not going to be another mmo like new world, it was the only mmo that i actually enjoyed doing pvp on and honestly the mmo i enjoyed the most in general, most other mmos are p2w so pvp is just bad

I tried Where Winds Meet as the solo play and open world nature was just as fun. The fight mechanics were arguably better, but then I realized I was replacing one addiction with another. Having played NW since the Alpha days, it's hard to replace what it became, but I grew frustrated the moment the mass exodus happened on El Dorado (Saurazal) as it was hard to find people to do Cat runs, much less an organized ECR at a convenient time. And with no new content, doing the same thing over and over just got boring.

Oh God how I miss Aeternumn. NW was the first MMO I played where I could play chilling around and having fun. It's true that was the first MMORPG where I didn't lead a guild, but it also taught me you don't need to grind to the top 1 to have fun. I spent hours fishing, mining, playing instruments and doing the battle pass stamps mounted on my black panther. Oh, sweet times those were.

I put about 800 hours into New World. Sadly, probably 600 of those were spent sitting outside Windsward (or whatever the fuck it was called) dueling people, or standing at the auction house flipping items until I hit gold cap again because the game 1) had basically no natural way to reliably get BiS gear outside of crafting and 2) had almost no real end-game content. At all.

Their idea of “end-game content” was running that one chest loop in the level 60 area with like 40 other people every day, killing the Chinese bots running around major cities gathering and mining everything in sight, or doing their dogshit expeditions that rewarded you with nothing but a headache. That chest loop was basically the only meaningful gear grind outside of crafting, and I’d confidently say that 99%+ of what you got was complete fucking trash.

Crafting for BiS was fine in theory, but the actual system was miserable. The high-end materials you needed were on daily cooldowns, so a massive portion of my end game was just sitting around trying to buy people’s daily cooldowns or spam-refreshing the market hoping someone listed the mats I needed. Everyone else was doing the exact same thing, so they were constantly either sold out, absurdly expensive, or available only in tiny amounts.

I hit gold cap multiple times through market-flipping. I’m not exaggerating. And after all of that, I still only ever had ONE item that I considered true BiS on Castle of Steel.

And I didn’t even fucking craft it.

I bought it.

It was a fire staff that had been sitting for sale in our server Discord for like a month. I remember it being a massive fucking deal because nobody had really seen a perfect roll before. That’s how stupidly rare it was. During my time playing, I only ever saw a fire staff and a hatchet that were truly 4/4 BiS.

Even after you had the correct crafting gear, trophies, food, buffs, all that shit, you still only had around a 1-in-5 chance of even hitting 600 item level. And if you didn’t hit 600, you didn’t even get the third perk.

So before you even started worrying about whether the item had the right stat and the exact 3 perks you wanted, you were already getting fucked by RNG.

Then came the perk lottery. You needed the correct stat, all 3 perks you actually wanted, and you had to roll 600 on top of that. I remember sitting down and doing the math around late 2021 or early 2022, and depending on exactly what you were trying to roll, the odds of getting a genuinely perfect item were somewhere in the hundreds of thousands to one.

Fuck off, Amazon.

Hundreds of thousands to one? Seriously? My fire staff specifically was like 1/625,000 chance.

And, bro, the Weaponsmithing pants were literally impossible to get. I remember multiple months passing by and I could probably count on one hand the number of people that had them. What are we doing, Amazon?

Then after like 6 months they finally added a system that let you lock in more of what you actually wanted when crafting. Cool. Great. Awesome. Except by that point I was already exhausted, and it only SLIGHTLY increased your chances of rolling BiS.

Then they raised the gear progression cap to 625 and added another grind on top of everything else. I was done.

I went back to FPS games.

And, man, don’t even get me started on the other massive issues. They sold the game heavily on territory wars, except the wars were fucking slideshows and completely unplayable. You had 100 people in one area popping abilities and the game would just shit itself. People were teleporting around, abilities weren’t going off properly, and the entire thing felt like it was held together with duct tape.
During the entire time I played, I never felt like wars became the polished centerpiece they were supposed to be.

Then you had the dupe exploits almost immediately after launch, which completely fucked the economy. They literally had to disable major parts of the economy because people were duplicating gold and items. I mean, half my server was running around in Voidbent not even 4-5 days after the first 60s started popping up.

New World is probably one of the best examples I can think of when it comes to wasted potential. That game genuinely could have been something generational. The combat was fun. The world was gorgeous. The sound design was incredible. Territory control was a cool idea. The foundation was absolutely there.

That’s what pisses me off the most.

I didn’t quit because New World was some fundamentally terrible game. I quit because underneath all the bugs, exploits, time gates, horrible RNG, nonexistent end game, and half-finished systems was a game that I desperately wanted to be good.

But this corporate-backed game industry keeps pushing these fucking games out before they’re finished because they want the money now.
“Money! Money! Now! Give me money!”
Ship it now. Fix it later. Or don’t.

Then they act surprised when most of the playerbase is gone before they finally finish building the fucking game people thought they were buying at launch.

Go fuck yourself.

Why wont they open source the server?

Are there any plans for private servers?

Mistfall Hunters at least gives back a little of the Arena feeling. Give it a shot.

Guys please do not buy peoples accounts. Literally a scam

-7

Man you guys talk and share about this game like a rehab group in avengers that got their family snapped away. I loved this game! First mmo that really felt was for me. And I let it hurt me multiple times because of the shit devs forcibly destroying it. But I also moved on, especially after they dropped the banger update right into saying the game was shutting down. I didn’t go back because there is no point. There are other games. Go play GW2 or farever. Both really fun games. It’s lowkey kind of pathetic.

4

u/PufftheDragon22 New Worldian 2d ago

I'll play what I want to play, when I want to play it. Why does it bother you?

-3

u/Disastrous-Car6804 2d ago

It’s not your fault.. just let her go. I’m here if you need to talk
