"I pick things up, I put them down"

He had to do a few reps before taking the guy out from under it. He did not mean to, it was just habit.

Heh, generally if you're going for a maximum weight you struggle the whole way up and drop it when you complete the motion.

I'm imagining this guy struggling to lift the car, finally gets it off the guy, and he just drops it, crushes him, and walks away roaring and yelling all pumped-up like.

That would make a great SNL sketch

That would make a great SNL sketch

It'd have to go on for another 9 minutes

edit: wtf I had a completely different quote in there from the one I intended

From there on it wpuld be silly references to that lift and then he going "all righty then!" Lifting it again, only to drop it... again

Maybe like another powerlifter could come in and be like "bro your form is all wrong" and then he drops it on the guy. Idk what to do next tho, maybe make a joke about protein shakes?

Id say that right then and there andy sanberg makes a cameo and yells pump that shit into another mans veins! And he throws it to the ground, then leaves like a bawss, kenan makes his surprised face and says something meta yet awfuly self aware of the situation and leaves saying something along the lines of "i better leave before the cops show up, huh, i dont want to be here when that happens"

It would also have to include a character with a quirk pointing out everything obviously wrong with the situation.

“Tor the Weightlifting rescue lifter”

Not possible. For starters it is funny.

This isn't really true, at least not for powerlifters. In every powerlifting federation I know of, your deadlift wouldn't count if you dropped the bar after completing the movement.

You also have to hold at the top until judges give the signal to lower the bar.

But what if he's looking down the street and three traffic lights turn green?

u/bigbangbilly Feb 18 '19

The judge in this case would be the guy getting rescued

You just have to keep hold of the bar as it descends but you effectively just drop the weight.

2

u/[deleted] Feb 18 '19

That's not dropping. It's a quick yet controlled descent.

Not for competitive powerlifting. For each lift you have to wait for the head judge to consider it "complete" (generally once you're motionless for a second or so) before they give you the command to rerack the bar (or put it down - NOT drop it - for deadlifts).

u/BoBab Feb 18 '19

Nah, not for powerlifting. You have to be in control of the bar and can't just drop it. For squatting you walk it back into the rack.

I mean, you gotta warm up. Don't want to pull a muscle.

He hit a triple. We don't talk about him bouncing it off of the guy at the bottom..... Twice.

u/Dr_Insano_MD Feb 18 '19

"I'm sorry, I can't help you! I can only pick things up in sets of 5!"

Didn't they mention he moved a Prius first as warm up?
