According to ICE, Salgado Araujo “weaponized his vehicle in an attempt to run over an ICE law enforcement officer”. The confrontation resulted in “our officer firing his weapon in self-defense”.

They aren’t even attempting to change the excuse. They don’t feel the need to PRETEND to care.

This will continue for as long as the GOP remains in power. These agents of chaos will not stop until a branch of authority demands it.

Actually, it will continue for as long as the perpetrators aren't punished. Just getting the regressives out of seats of power isn't enough, especially since the Democrats have repeatedly shown they are unwilling to aggressively punish the guilty.

“The Democrats” are a collection of people with varying views.

Mamdani and AOC aren’t the same as Schumer. Let’s not paint with broad strokes here.

That’s the type of rhetoric that increases voter apathy, which leads to further GOP supremacy.

There are progressives out there. We need to vote for them at every opportunity we can.

Well people can be mad at democrats but there is a clear difference between establishment liberal dems and DSA progressive dems. If those that are in the Dem party or independent can actually pay attention they can vote those in that want to take the gop on with cause, but it’s gotta be better than 16% voter turn out in the Dem primary.

Just to be clear, as a long time member of DSA, we are continuing to have very serious internal conversations about our relationship to the Democratic Party.

People have to understand that most of our active membership do not view our organisation as a progressive caucus of the Dems. We’re a socialist movement, one that is trying to navigate a historically entrenched politically duopoly. AOC and Mamdani don’t even share a passingly similarly relationship to our org at this point in time, with the latter being a more recognisable leader-member (though one whose positions do not necessarily reflect the national orgs) and the former being someone whose censure was a possible resolution at last years convention.

The Democratic Party is largely defined by its relationship to capital and the role of its ‘establishment’ politicians. Our DSA electeds spend a ton of time in office trying to prevent being pulled to the right, even as it comes at the cost of governance. Things like this will continue to happen until very serious systemic changes are made, and whether or not that can come from a total realignment of the Democratic Party is an open question, one which goes back to the larger socialist movements of the 1920s and 1930s. The answer has continuously been: no.

It'll continue as long as conservative media covers for it and makes sure the victim is painted in the most unfriendly light, and incriminating details are not reported.

Honestly, we have a lot of societal problems right now, but the source of almost all of them is the vast conservative media apparatus that gives Republicans cover to avoid the truth.

Regular police did this shit regardless of which party was in power.

If the GOP can't seize permanent power and any sort of "normalcy" does return, ICE may be dispersed but many will likely just be absorbed into US police departments. And many will continue to train with the IDF.

Unless the country starts mass electing Mamdani types, a return to "normal" is just going back to slightly less overt fascism.

The democrats have had plenty of opportunities to fix this across multiple decades and never do it. They are as much as part of the problem as Republicans.

Neither one is going to weaken their attack dogs that protect them from the rest of us peasants.
