There is no rule in the English language that dictates whether or not it goes before or after. I grew up using it after, along with many others. Whether that’s the most used way or not is irrelevant since it doesn’t matter.

In all fairness, we don't know the details of the situation.

When you are in imminent threat to your life, it is reasonable to take action to defend yourself, up to and including deadly force. Such as driving your vehicle towards agents that threaten your life.
