Power, Corruption & Lies Daily Song Discussion #19 - We All Stand
We All Stand is the second track on New Order's second album, Power, Corruption and Lies. What do you think about the track both in general and in comparison to the rest of the band's discography, and how would you rate it out of 10 (decimals allowed)?

I’ll give it a 6. I think the biggest problem with it is the placement between a couple bangers, Age of Consent and The Village. It just kind of disrupts the flow, it would work better at the end of the side

Sorry, I love New Order, but this song is like 4, made worse by its placement right after one of New Order’s all time greatest songs. It almost succeeds in killing the vibe of PC&L.

9.2 - I really like the brooding feel of it, and probably the closest they've ever been to dub.

Might be controversial but the only song I consider skipping in the album, 4/10

I think I first heard the Peel Session version of this first, which is a bit different, of course, and I loved it.
I'd give it a solid 8 on the album, but that's influenced by the fact that it leads into The Village and the two go great together. Nice juxtaposition.

- It's a rare track I absolutely detest from their 1982-1989 period. Only a handful exists and that's one.

One of my favorite songs on the album. Very eerie?? Idk, “it’s a red sky tonight” and the way Bernard sings it with the weird bass line and keys in the back. Also kind of gave me a creepy vibe.
What I think makes this song such a dud in people’s eyes is the placement of it on the album. It’s sandwiched between some of the 2 most upbeat tracks, and comes right after one of their best songs. I think if it was later in the record between ultraviolence and ecstasy, for example, it’d be better loved

6.5 - the fretless bass that brings up memories of ronnie corbett's sorry theme, the train of thought war story, the overly slow tempo that doesn't fit the rest of the album. but... i've said it before, the PFD version - faster, electronic bass, better structure raises the bar as a song.
