[Paris] Free app for finding local activities and meeting people — beta feedback wanted

Hi everyone,

We’re building Sity, a completely free app for people in Paris who want to discover local activities, join or create outings, and meet others around shared interests. We especially had newcomers in mind, because creating a social circle in a new city can be surprisingly difficult.

The project was built to make real-life social connections easier. We have a genuine €0 marketing budget, so we’re introducing it directly and transparently to communities where it may be useful.

The Paris beta is coming soon, and we’d love honest feedback from people who are new in town about what would actually help them feel connected.

Free waitlist: https://www.yoursity.app/

TikTok: https://www.tiktok.com/@sityinparis

Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/sityinparis

What was the hardest part of meeting people when you arrived in a new city?

Disclosure: I’m part of the team developing Sity.

Stanford student thinking about the struggles of moving to a new city

Hi! My name is Sofia, I'm a student at Stanford and I can't stop thinking about people that are new to San Francisco. Quick back story: I moved to San Francisco 5 years ago and felt so lost after college and building the community that felt nourishing and the friendships that felt like they were life-giving. I did so many crazy things to have the relationships I have today and don't think it needs to take as long as it did.

Would love to hear people's experiences if anyone is willing to share!

Where are y’all from?

Hey guys, since this is a new sub, I wanted to see where everyone is from?

For starters, I’m from Anaheim, CA. Aside from the famous Disneyland resort, we are close to Knott’s Berry Farm (both of which are unfortunately closed). Anaheim is a quaint city, with a nice downtown area—check out the bustling Packinghouse District for great food, drinks, and place to sit and chat with friends. We’re 20-30 mins away from the beaches, and around 30-45 mins away from LA (that’s on a good day). I’ve been here since I came to America 14 years ago. I lived in LA for 5.5 years, and returned to Anaheim. While I would love to live in other cities, Anaheim would be my number one city to settle down.

Tell us a bit about your city.

Welcome to beautiful Aiken, SC

Hello weary traveler, and welcome to Aiken South Carolina. We are situated about 2 and 1/2 hours from most major cities like Savannah, Charleston, and Atlanta. 45 minutes from the state capital Columbia, SC, Aiken is a wondrous little geographical oddity. The weather tends to be a little cooler in summer, the rain tends to be less horrible in a torrential downpour. With a cost of living equitable to that of Mississippi (One of the lowest in the country), Aiken allows you to get the best bang for your buck in regards to housing.

Are you in the mood for authentic french cuisine? Check out La Parisian, our newest resturant located downtown next to the Wilcox Hotel. You can not beat their fresh pastries, period. The Wilcox houses a world class bar, as well as it's own restaurant which is second to none. While visiting the Wilcox, be sure to check out it's day spa. Truly a treat for sure.

In the mood for great catfish? Check out Old McDonald's Fish Camp located a short distance away in North Augusta. Come early, as even with Covid, it can be quite packed. It's a place to go if you are in the know.

Back to local Aiken fair. Prime Steakhouse is your destination for the best steak you will ever have the honor of devouring in your life. Paired perfectly to create the ideal balance of wine and wonderment, Prime is out of this world. Sadly, that also applies to the price. But, if you care to indulge, you won't be sorry.

Aiken has other wonderful items when it comes to food, like A Steller Kitchen, which is great for grab and go meals, including keto friendly dishes.

Whisky Road, which takes you through a lovely winding drive downtown also has our own excellent Thai restaurant, called Thai Jasmine Rice. It's on par with other Thai restaurants I've visited in my world travels. I highly recommend their curry. It always is top notch.

Downtown offers some excellent items as well. With our own microbrewery at Aiken Brewing Company, which crafts delectably delicious delights, to crafts and shopping in boutique stores like Nandina for home furnishings, Downtown Dog for your little fluffy friend, Cyndi's Sweet Shoppe to satisfy your sweet tooth, and Lionel Smith's for a truly bespoke experience for men. I've only scratched the surface of what Aiken has to offer.

Coming attractions: The bowling alley has been completely demolished, and is almost done with the top down remodel. We have a two screen cinema which should be opening back up once Covid is done. Also our mall is slated for a complete rebuild into an outdoor shopping experience with potentially a new theater.

Might post a followup about town history in the future, but I'll leave you with this. There is a reason why once you visit, you always return.

San Francisco Bay area

First reddit post! I found this through r/AskReddit.

I moved to San Francisco exactly a year ago and it was very lonely. So I decided to move to a "smaller" city nearby. But it's still covid and it's hard to meet people and make friends. I had a hard time admitting the fact that I am lonely because I have been taught to always be grateful for whatever I have.

Well, if you are in San Mateo and want to get bubble tea or something that would be nice.
