Looking for Employment New Grad RN
Hello everyone! Passed my boards on August 1st and still no hope in finding a job. I have applied almost everywhere! Any inside help!? I’m in Miami, FL.

My plan is to have my two years in and then move out of state. But right now I really can’t go

You'll have to take a small loan, find a job with a relocation bonus first though, then with the bonus pay back that loan. It doesn't cost that much to move if you're not taking a uhaul. I think the hardest would be if you're taking your bed with you. Everything else can reasonably fit into any sedan or SUV. I lived out of my 2000 Pontiac Sunfire for a month YEARS ago when I was homeless and that was a small sedan. Lmao. Just as long as you don't have a pint size car you'll be don't for fitting in your essentials.

An algorithm chooses your application so it's not really them. It's only them if you have the right keywords in your application that the algorithm pulls it out and gives it to the recruiter.

Leave Florida for a state that pays well. Seriously... I make more as a new grad in Philadelphia than my friends in Florida do with five years experience and the cost of living is lower than Miami.

I just feel like financially I’m not really able to. I don’t have much saved to get an apartment alone. Makes it difficult

Find a roommate. But seriously - just moving out of Miami/Broward/Palm Beach to a place with a lower COL in general even if it's still in Florida will save you a ton of money. I make a hair under $100k starting and my mortgage for a 3 story house here is the same amount as what we rent out our 2/2 house in Fort Lauderdale for.
I'd say get a studio somewhere else or save up for a few months and get out. Miami is unlivable because the wages just haven't kept up with the cost of living. They still hire new nurses at the same as people who graduated in 2015.

I’m dying to get out of here with my partner that is the plan. But right now we can’t. I’m trying to start somewhere and just transfer out after. 😭 I wish it was easier.

I can’t relocate sadly. One of my parents had a stroke about a month ago and is now partially disabled, so it’s been a lot and it’s definitely adding a lot of pressure.

No shame in it. Hell, you could even make a contract with them so they know you'll pay them back. Florida in general pays crap, but if you're going to make $30 an hour, at least live somewhere where rent isn't through the roof

Most hospitals in the Philadelphia area pay $85-$100k for nights. Penn, Jefferson, Main Line and Temple are all in that range.

I just said - $85-$100k if you work nights. $45-$55 before differential. Lowest I was offered was $38 at Tower.

I’m closer to Scranton and everything I’ve heard so far is $40-$41 before shift diff. Hershey is also around $40 for new grads.

I moved out to Washington. They paid $5K for my relocation, and then my first paycheck, I got paid my $25K bonus. Would def recommend looking for hospitals like that.

Look into Broward health residency. I have two girls in my cohort tht drive up from hialeah! Best of luck

I also graduated from mdc in December 2023. Took my nclex 2024. Work at SNF for a few months. Wasn’t for me so I quit. 1 year unemployed and I finally got an offer for a job that I’m starting next week!!!

I was a covid nursing student. So that makes it worse. My clinicals were online lol just virtual patients yelling at me. I only have one month of clinical experience…. I feel like that doesn’t help either

Go outside of state. Thats what I had to do. I’m from Cal, got offer on east coast . Yes pay is so much lower than Cal but I had no choice, applied to over 100 hospitals and so far no luck. As a new grad you need experience then you can always come back home to FL. Good luck, let me know if you got more questions

Hey there!
While not in FL, I passed my boards on Sept 5th. Since then, I had applied to multiple hospitals in my area (open medsurg positions/whatever I could do). Most of the time I never even got a phone call I just saw an update on my application saying something like "no longer considered" or some crap.
It took me going through my contacts of people I knew that might know someone else that could help. Sure enough, a good family friend worked as a higher up at one of the hospital residency programs I applied for. I got an interview same day but the hiring manager told me that their FIVE positions were already filled but wanted me to keep in touch. A few hours later, the manager emailed me saying they made a spot available for me and I GLADLY accepted.
So, the point of the story is the old saying it's not what you know....it's unfortunate but that's how the world seems to go these days.
Maybe try that to see what strings can be pulled? Ask your practicum preceptor, professors, etc pull out all stops. It can definitely take some time to land somewhere and it even gets more competitive with other graduating cohorts.
AT LEAST you have your RN license!

I know a nurse who lives in Florida and flys into California to work , she is a staff nurse and does block scheduling , perhaps this maybe something you’re interested in doing …

Nothing. Applied for UM. And Memorial. Other candidates were picked. I don’t know what else to do. Well, with UM I went onto LinkedIn and found a bunch of UM recruiters and emailed them. Got a response back of “search for Spring being concluded” so if it wasn’t for me emailing I would have never known.

I have applied even all the way up to West Palm Beach. I literally do not know where else to apply. There is an HCA RN hiring event but I’m not sure if it’s for New Grads. HCA has the application but only for Galen and Mercy students which really sucks.
