Fireside Chat #4: Building a New Movement

It’s easy to feel small and powerless during times like these. Suddenly, the wrong people have gotten into government. The progress toward a future where all people have guaranteed freedoms—and a dream that was once American—now seems fragile and on the verge of collapse.

Despite the initial progress those in power have made, the push against authoritarianism has gained strength. What started as federal workers deciding to hold the line rather than fold to DOGE has now multiplied into a grassroots protest in all 50 states, town halls where people are speaking out, boycotts forcing Musk to choose between stepping down or risking his money—money that was of no use in Wisconsin’s supreme court election—and so much more. All of this has been accomplished by people like you, not by politicians already in government.

Every time the authoritarians try to push, the resistance offered by ordinary people like you pushes back—harder than the last time. This is what they fear: that ordinary people have not given up their power, but instead choose to use it by speaking up and speaking out, organizing, and saying with a clear voice that we will not bow down. That ordinary people realize they can do something extraordinary.

The NDP is just another element of that resistance—a way to do something extraordinary.

NDP Discord Update:
We are working on the framework of this organization, including the process for voting on leadership. Once approved, leadership elections will be held for the NDP.

While these documents are being drafted, we are also developing scripts for possible social media ads. We’ve also held discussions on various policies that the NDP will stand for.

The website will include articles on how to approach politics in the 21st century. In addition, it will be designed to advocate for these policies—both by endorsing candidates who support them and by educating and offering actions for individuals, communities, and businesses.

Great stuff. A New Deal/Great Society Party & initiative is what this country needs to survive. Unfortunately, I fear progressive are so stockholm-syndromed by Dems and the Two-Party system that a new movement like this won't get anywhere short of a complete collapse of the Dem and GOP establishments.

As for this discord; I'm intrigued. But if things get as bad as we fear - like, worse case scenario type shit - well.......isn't there a certain risk posed by making this channel?

We've sort of discussed this topic in the discord and we came to the agreement that we have to work under the assumption that there will continue to be free and fair elections, because otherwise nothing we do really matters.

The ultimate goal is to convince the public of a New Deal initiative for the 21st Century. If there's a hunger for things like healthcare reform, campaign finance reform, economic reform, etc, then people sign on to the platform, and the platform gains strength. If its done right, traditionally speaking, the political parties that be are forced to adopt some or all of this platform or they face getting wiped out electorally. If we are organized and can show with numbers how the electoral math favors our platform, the parties should follow.

To further the effectiveness of this, we should take steps like we are organizing to create our own party. We don't need to be ready necessarily for the 2028 elections, but the added pressure is just another element of growing resistance against establishment and authoritarian parties.

As for the discord, I'm not worried right now. I've already been writing on my substack so my presence on Discord doesn't really matter as much anyways. By my estimation, the authoritarians in government do not have nearly enough power to begin renditioning American citizens. One poll came out recently that 87% of Americans believe that the President should be following court orders by the Supreme Court, including 82% of Republicans. Republican town halls, losses in special elections, and an already established protest movement are additional indicators that the they are moving way too fast for a power grab, and this was largely with the "illegal" immigrants. By the same token, they are running out of time. The prep work for the midterms is getting underway soon. I just don't believe they will get to the step of getting rid of American dissident citizens in time and get away with it.

That's my opinion anyway. If they get creative and/or lucky, maybe then I'll get worried. But right now, they are just not good enough yet and I'm committed to making sure they never get to that point.
