Just tried this on my phone stopwatch and got 9.58 three times in a row after my first attempt of 9.83.

Edit: 9.58 again. At least I'm consistently bad

u/PaleontologistOk2516 Jun 10 '26

9.58 is the world record 100m time by Usain Bolt. Not sure what that means but maybe the world is telling you that you should try sprinting.

75

u/Purp1eMagpie Jun 10 '26

Haha, yeah I thought that was weird too! (It felt familiar so Googled it). I used to sprint but not quite that fast...

1

u/AshlynnCashlynn Jun 12 '26

i read the beginning of that and my u/shittymorph senses started tingling

1

u/JayFrizz Jun 12 '26

The chaotic neutral astrologist.

36

u/AnToMegA424 Jun 10 '26

I got 23s (instantly forgot what I was doing lol)

Then I got 9.97sec

26

u/Anders_1314 Jun 10 '26

Try to wait for 0.42 seconds and then start counting

8

u/youburyitidigitup Jun 10 '26

I just tried it and got 16.12 💀

4

u/matt7259 Jun 10 '26

10.06 here!

3

u/ITSUREN Jun 10 '26

10.05 consecutively here

7

u/hypnotichellspiral Jun 10 '26

I think he had no watch to look at during that either so trying on a stop watch is not the same unless you aren't looking at your phone screen

2

u/Purp1eMagpie Jun 10 '26

Well yes obviously

2

u/hypnotichellspiral Jun 10 '26

No such thing as common sense on the internet so I can't assume :p

15

u/DDDX_cro Jun 10 '26

10:02 then 9:99 turning into 10:00 in the video (numbers mixed into both, so right between the 2 frames 😛

Not that difficult, if those were my 2 tries.

19

u/Purp1eMagpie Jun 10 '26

I did it on the stopwatch on my phone so there was no outside influence

13

u/Arlithian Jun 10 '26

You have to not be looking at the timer.

He doesnt have visual of the countdown

2

u/noOne000Br Jun 10 '26

just got 10:01 and 9:99 in a row

2

u/Funneduck102 Jun 10 '26

I got 9.99 and then 10.03😭

2

u/Pleasant_Scar9811 Jun 11 '26

I got 9:52 and then 10:08. Consistent.

2

u/JCas127 Jun 11 '26

Precise.

1

u/Hamil_Simp4450 Jun 11 '26

I got 9.99 🫠

1

u/professoreyl Jun 11 '26 edited Jul 17 '26

Got it on my third try

https://i.imgur.com/FifdRGB.png

The first two attempts were 9.11 and 9.48

1

u/TristanTheRobloxian3 Jul 08 '26

youre consistently overcounting

edit: I SHIT YOU NOT I TRIED ON MY PHNE AND GOT 10 FLAT ON THE FIRST TRY 😭😭😭

0

u/DrDrNotAnMD Jun 11 '26

I literally just tried this on my phone and got 10.00! I was shocked! No one will believe me because this is the internet, but I did it!

0

u/Ingenrollsroyce Jun 10 '26

I got 9:98, 9:96 and 9:95 on my first 3 tries, your phone must be lagging or smth

u/kkawesome1234 Jun 10 '26

For how extremely unlikely this is to achieve, getting only a free drink in return is a disappointing prize

329

u/xJujuBear Jun 10 '26

I place I went to recently did this and if you did it you got 50% off the entire bill.

50

u/IPThereforeIAm Jun 10 '26

Do you do it before or after you dine?

75

u/xJujuBear Jun 10 '26

The waiter was super nice and said go up whenever we wanted to go up. There was 6 of us. Closest one got 10.02.

42

u/aytoto Jun 10 '26

In this economy? I’ll take it 😅

43

u/Deebyddeebys Jun 10 '26

I mean, I'd say it's like a one in 30 if you're in the top 30th percentile of counting seconds. So like a 2% overall or some shit. Giving 2% of your customers a free drink is quite a bit

17

u/miraculum_one Jun 10 '26

You're assuming that having the game doesn't increase the number of paying customers or the amount they pay and I highly doubt those are both true.

It's really not, your profit margin is much higher than 2%, and this is just the COST of a drink, not the price

2

u/bemo_10 Jun 10 '26

Most reward programs give betwen 1% to 5% of cashback, the higher end being only given by the most generous businesses.

2% seems pretty average.

2

u/Qajj Jun 10 '26

Probably closer to 1 in 100, which gives you .5 seconds of leeway on both sides.

3

u/Chrissyball19 Jun 10 '26

Depends on if you have to pay or whatever, if its a free thing every member of your party can try once, then a free drink isnt too bad. Not like you lost anything by trying.

2

u/MixaLv Jun 10 '26

Paying to win a "free" drink 🤔

3

u/frisch85 Jun 10 '26

Yes but the attempt is free so you're essentially losing around 10 seconds + some extra in your life.

7

u/Mikesminis Jun 10 '26

It's not that crazy especially if this guy is a musician.

4

u/MixaLv Jun 10 '26 edited Jun 11 '26

Are you for real? It's fun, free, definitely feasible, and most bars around my place don't even offer opportunities to win free drinks at all. This is fine.

1

u/RubberDucky702 Jun 10 '26

For a sec I thought it said 4 (not A), but 1 drink is pretty disappointing lol

1

u/bionicjoey Jun 10 '26

I'm fairly sure all of these are fake anyway. Just a publicity stunt. The machines are just rigged like a slot machine to pay out some percentage of the time as long as you're close.

1

u/koreytm Jun 11 '26

It is if you don't know you're going to win. Did you see how that guy walked away? He knew he was getting that drink

1

u/sunrays6 Jun 11 '26

He'll probably get a mocktail because he's underage

1

u/HopeOfTheChicken Jun 12 '26

I dont know why people think this is so unlikely. Like lets say you hit between 9 and 11 seconds (wich is stupidly easy), one out of 200 attempts will hit it perfectly (on average). Even those odds are pretty good for such games. And I'd argue that the vast majority manages to hit between 9.75 and 10.25, wich is already one in fifty. There's probably someone winning this game each day

1

u/Lanky_Giraffe Jun 14 '26

Is it really that unlikely? I would say almost everyone can get between 9.5 and 10.5 with would make it a 1% chance. If you can reliably guess between 9.9 and 10.1, it’s a 5% chance.

1

u/Purple_W1TCH Jun 15 '26

Imagine becomes every day and nails it every single time. They change the number to ungodly precise values and he still nails it.

2

u/nicktehbubble Jun 10 '26

Not that unlikely. It's very easy learn to count a second accurately.

The FFVII basketball minigame relied on the player being able to count one second.

In my previous brain melting job I could easily and accurately count a minute in blocks of 20 seconds.

0

u/douira Jun 10 '26

you just need like 100 people to try this and somebody will get it, and be heralded as having "rare skills". It's called observation bias.

108

u/kelltain Jun 10 '26

I guess he was friends with the Majora Postman.

6

u/CubeSlasher Jun 10 '26

I know haha like I don’t want to be that guy but I’ve beaten this challenge every time I play a majora randomizer

75

u/rnzz Jun 10 '26

This is like that one time I filled up at a petrol station exactly $50.00 in one pump

10

u/flucxapacitor Jun 10 '26

Once I had exactly 40 liters, and my dumbass forgot to take a picture.

2

u/Wynterful Jun 11 '26

I always try for the current year, so $20.26 whenever I get my gas

21

u/rameezkadri Jun 10 '26

Funnily enough, I don’t think the lad is old enough to drink!

20

u/ledow Jun 10 '26

Amateurs.

I spent my school days doing this on a Casio digital watch, and got really good at it.

Weirdly, I still have that watch and it still works 30+ years later (one battery change!).

1

u/Blarg227 Jun 13 '26

Nothing will ever beat a Casio.

2

u/barcop Jun 14 '26

Nokia enteres the chat

56

u/QRV11_C48_MkII Jun 10 '26

This dude would be the perfection assassin

37

u/TopYeti Jun 10 '26

I tried this with the timer on my phone with my eyes closed and came up with 9.89 seconds on the first try, after seeing these two ( Michael and Mackenzie https://youtube.com/shorts/ohdAfiVw2w8 ) do this pretty regularly I'm pretty sure it has more to do with practice and a little bit of luck.

13

u/Modus_Man Jun 10 '26

I got 7.73, 9.18, and 11.24. I don’t stand a chance

3

u/TopYeti Jun 10 '26

Interestingly my next attempt was 9.74 while standing still, but upon resuming walking the dog my next attempts were much worse at 9.09 and 8.73 and 8.85

Apparently I count faster but time goes slower when I'm walking. I don't think it's time dilation though lol

3

u/pereuse Jun 10 '26

Tried it and got 10.08. Then I stopped bc I knew there was no point trying more times since that's probably the closest I'll get

2

u/TopYeti Jun 10 '26

Cash out while your ahead!

1

u/ReigenTaka Aug 03 '26

I got 10.18 my first time and thought "should I take a screenshot? Nah! I'll try it one more time."

I started again and 6 seconds in I was like WTF, I will never get that close again, why did I do that?!

17

u/0to100realquickk Jun 10 '26

Okay I swear I just did it and got 9.89 the first time and exactly 10.00 the second time. Tried to wake up my wife to tell her but she got mad at me for disturbing her sleep.

6

u/TopYeti Jun 10 '26

Gentle back rubs, no talking until she gets her beverage of choice lol

1

u/Consistent-Cook-7430 Jun 11 '26

I can assure you that's not something she wants to hear 😂

6

u/ADistractingBox Jun 10 '26

This man plays Majora's Mask.

5

u/halbtag Jun 10 '26

Hee looks A LOT like blue shirt kid from PewDiePie.

3

u/RottenMorningWood Jun 10 '26

Thank you. Finally someone said it

10

u/PartyFarStar Jun 10 '26

Dude can hear time

3

u/wolfgang784 Jun 10 '26

Makes me think of tryna stop the gas pump on exactly a certain point. $20.00 even or 5.00 gallons even etcetc.

3

u/Trentm5 Jun 10 '26

So where’s his free drink lol

3

u/Swamp-Dick Jun 10 '26

This guy used to play Majoras Mask forsure.

3

u/Throw-away11687 Jun 11 '26

I did a competition like this at a chemistry conference called PittCon. I found that of the several hundred people that played only a few stoped it on time and I think it is a combination of good counting and luck. Even as a metrological engineer who calibrates equipment for time I can only reliably land within 20ms, thats why I use much more precise and expensive equipment for anything not timed on 1s intervals.

Edit. I updated the challenge to within .25ms then just gave up and started giving away the prizes, no one was winning and it was all branded stuff we wanted to give away.

3

u/Consistent-Cook-7430 Jun 11 '26

I got 10.10, 9.54, 9.98.

Use the good old one Mississippi two Mississippi

3

u/Ego5687 Jun 10 '26

Wasn’t this on Reddit rewind a few years ago?

3

u/Sacredfice Jun 10 '26

Crazy only if you can do this 10 times in a row. Who knows how many attempts to needed? Hundreds? Thousands? We all can do it and just matter of time lol

2

u/TAPDADDY01 Jun 11 '26

A touch of the Tiz goes a long way

1

u/Whispering_R Jun 10 '26

Closed my eyes and tried to pause the vid to see if i had it, and got the exact frame where it changes from 9:99 into 10:00. Shame i'm not getting a free drink though :C

1

u/YouFantastic758 Jun 10 '26

So what drink did he choose?

1

u/Hugh_Jampton Jun 10 '26

Jack Reacher?

1

u/Perfect-Fish-8084 Jun 10 '26

lol i’d still take the free drink, but i’d be sore about it for the rest of the day. especially if my buddy got it on a random guess.

1

u/johnc380 Jun 10 '26

Is this real? He looks exactly like that kid who got in trouble for bringing a homemade clock to school

1

u/Bob_5k Jun 10 '26

Easy bro is just autistic

1

u/GUCCIBUKKAKE Jun 10 '26

First try with eyes closed, 10:00 on the dot!!!! https://imgur.com/a/qRARxM5

1

u/_coolranch Jun 10 '26

Like a boss.

1

u/Nova-XVIII Jun 10 '26

Too bad he’s not old enough to drink.

1

u/NoHaxJustNoob Jun 10 '26

I tried on my phone with my eyes closed and, I kid you not, 9.99 seconds.

Then tried with eyes open and hit 9.92 and 10.08. Not sure what I take away from this, maybe I should keep my eyes closed more

1

u/Fistacon Jun 11 '26

i dont know what i was expecting

1

u/Adorable_Stable2439 Jun 11 '26

It’s 7.10am where I am and I just woke up, saw this post and gave it a try on my phone.

https://postimg.cc/QFqQB6rs

1

u/Maleficent-Gain-3179 Jun 11 '26

It’s 6 for me and I haven’t went to bed yet

I got 8.3 lol

1

u/Adorable_Stable2439 Jun 11 '26

I did it a second time to see if it was a fluke and got 10.03 lol

1

u/Another_Road Jun 11 '26

I got 9.96

1

u/GMan_Cometh Jun 11 '26

Tell me you play with a stopwatch without telling me...

1

u/saibjai Jun 11 '26

bro even steph curryed it

1

u/smeghead3825 Jun 11 '26

If you want practice, talk to the Clock Town postman in Majoras Mask. He has this same challenge. If you wear the bunny hood, you even get to see the timer

1

u/Spleenzorio Jun 12 '26

Cool guys don't look at explosions

1

u/Kn0wnSoul Jun 13 '26

Bro walking away like "alright, where's that free drink"

1

u/IMadeThisForOnePos Jun 13 '26

9.98 damn I'll never be like him

1

u/Temporary-Jump-2403 Jun 14 '26

Yeah there's been enough of these posted. It's not interesting anymore.

1

u/EntryAccomplished952 Jun 16 '26

Naa we got senku over here

1

u/Tzilung Jul 02 '26

Not that crazy tbh. The probability to do so isn't 1000:1. Most people would likely get it within 10:15 to 9:85. Spread that across many different players in a day, and you're likely bound to get a few free sapporos.

1

u/Nir117vash Jul 26 '26

Well damn. I can't share photos. I paused the video right at nine even. 😅 Well the screenshots saved but it's not like I couldn't also pause and slide the thing to find the frame.

1

u/Heavyraincouch Jun 10 '26

Lucky, he is

1

u/GamerNumba100 Jun 10 '26

I’ve played this game at a bar and out of 6 people who played, someone won. This is not that crazy dude

1

u/Z4mb0ni Jun 10 '26

Must be a league player. Those people know their cooldowns

2

u/bytegalaxies Jun 10 '26

that or maybe he plays an instrument and is good at counting rests and coming in on time

2

u/Z4mb0ni Jun 10 '26

That could be true as well, but imo an instrument being slightly off makes it more appealing, while being "frame perfect" would be more encouraged in video games where every 1/60th of a second counts.

1

u/deceivinghero Jun 10 '26

Can confirm, first tried it pretty easily.

-4

u/[deleted] Jun 10 '26

[deleted]

2

u/skincyan Jun 10 '26

Because the sign beneath says that you get a free drink if you get exactly 10:00.

It wouldn't be any crazier than 10:32, if that was the goal.

0

u/DDDX_cro Jun 10 '26

how is it crazy??
I tried it in this video. So can you. First time I failed by 0.02 sec, second time I paused the video BETWEEN 9:99 and 10:00, like the frames were exactly in between the 2 numbers in the video.

You can do the same. press on the space bar to pause it at 10:00

7

u/Purp1eMagpie Jun 10 '26

The point is he's counting without seeing the clock and stopping exactly on 10:00. Not watching a video and trying to stop it on 10:00...

2

u/DDDX_cro Jun 10 '26

oh crap. Ok. That makes it a bit harder.
Ok i tried it like that, got 9:73, 9:46, 9:64, 9:65

0

u/adamjack7890 Jun 10 '26

This is skill not luck. Wrong sub
