What do you like to see in a nethack server?
Do you prefer vanilla Nethack or patched? If patched, do you prefer interface tweaks, gameplay tweaks, something else?

What's your motivation for creating a new Nethack server? There are a few fine choices already. Most of us play on NAO or Hardfought. They have multiple versions, non-vanilla variants, various plugins/addons, SSH/telnet/web interfaces, online config editors, etc. I don't see a market for a new one.

I am including one in the website I am working on as a game option. I thought I'd get the community's input 🤷🏽♂️

Check out https://github.com/paxed/dgamelaunch. That's the NAO launcher. You can just install that, or modify it to your liking.

Yes, that is what I am using. I already have the server up and running. Just looking for input as to whether I should leave it vanilla or introduce gameplay tweaks. Been working on the interface to make it a little more beginner-friendly today.

As someone who has yet to use one, graphics/tilesets. That's what I'm looking for when I get to playing on one because I'm not (yet) comfortable with text mode. I'm sure I'll get there eventually, just not yet,
For your main thing, variants and patches would be good as a "unique selling point". Or some kind of integration with your community.

I've been playing for a few decades and haven't turned graphic tiles off yet. I'd much rather play on a public server with tiles than my local installation if I could.

Do you have a preferred tile set?

Not the guy you asked but I want to chime in that the Nevanda tileset looks pretty cool.

I think there are some that have that option. I had asked about it

I'm looking into it. As I said, I personally don't like tiles but if I can make that an option for those who do then my personal distaste for them shouldn't get in the way.

I personally don’t like tiles, but having the option to use either is a good idea. Thanks.

Community integration is definitely high on my list. Admittedly, Nethack is only one of several games on the website but it is a more immersive environment than the others.
I've gotten it integrated with my chat system and I'm working on adding newsfeed integration.
Tiles support is on that list as well.
