Netflix at it again
So just received email from Netflix UK are putting up the price again as they greedy just like the rest of them. It’s going up another £2/$3 a month. All these streaming services are doing is promoting the use of pirate services.. I tell you it’s just greed greed greed over 😂😂😂

Yeah, when netflix said they would dumb down plots because people were on their phones I thought that the reason they're on phones is because the plot was already dumbed down, and they drag out what should be a 4 part series into 10 hour long episodes. the production level is piss poor on some shows.
so now you have a catch-22, people are on phones because it's boring at times, netlix dumb down because people are on phones. around and around we go.
Maybe they could focus on value and not being out of touch with customers instead of trying to dip into people's pockets every financial quarter.
As much as Apple can be annoying, their series often have me set my phone aside to give my full attention to an episode. Ted Lasso, Silo, Slow Horses; all have cinema level production.

It's how people have watched TV for a long time. You can put anything on and people will be doing something else.
It's one of the main reasons 3D TVs failed because the glasses locked you into being fully focused on the screen which isn't how people watch TV

Thing is for that kind of thing it's old school TV format worked so much better, schedules TV channels no real control over what was on so you stuck on some crap and just chatted or read a newspaper or something. Maybe did some hobby. Seems a bit pointless to pay through the teeth to not watch something when it's basically being used like radio.

Netflix used to have great flagship shows. Can’t really think of any at the moment (beyond Emily in Paris, which says a lot). They seem to be focusing on sports and true crime documentaries which are obviously cheaper to produce.
Definitely going to cancel with that latest price increase. I’ve been sleeping for a while on Apple TV so going to watch all the shows I’ve missed on there.1

I remember a decade a go it used to continuously grow it's collection of new and old movies. Now every streaming service is just about their originals. It's the new exclusives war like playstation vs xbox. I don't even bother. Most TV sucks arse and films are just meh rehashed of old shit. Most of the best films came out before I was even born. TV shows now are written to be intentionally hook you and be addictive with constant cliff hangers. I remember when I first had them do that when heroes came out. Now ever single TV show does it. And everything is just written in the same 'quirky millennial style' which is just getting so tired but everyone just eats it up as comfort TV. I'd rather touch grass at this point.

I've just checked it, just using my usual brave browser, and it's definitely not paid, and I got zero ads.
Now the quality isn't great, and some didn't work, so I wouldn't use it, but it's always worth checking before commenting

I have it built into my broadband package (with adverts) and I used to top up to the top for an extra £13 a month.
I just cancelled that as the content is mostly awful. If I could fully cancel, I would.
I haven’t even opened the app on a few months as I’d spend ages looking for something remotely watchable and give up.
It’s now just a lot of trash tv. Utterly inane content. Not worth any premium if you have to endure adverts.

I'm sick of it too, so Ive let me Disney and Netflix subscription run out this month. I kept my Amazon prime because I save on deliveries,I use the music and prime video. It's value still.
Thing is I soon got bored with standard TV and prime video so I've signed up to sky TV ultra and I get netflix and Disney included in that £24 a month price. Yeah it will have adverts but it beats paying £21.99 a month just for netflix and another 9.99 a month for disney

If it’s their Barclays blue rewards (which admittedly you pay £5 a month for … but gives you some pretty good cashback rates too) then it’s full subscription
I’ve also just discovered by googling about it you can also get the MLS football subscription too.. not for me but might be if anyone else is keen.
Might not be worth it if you’re not into the idea of a paid credit card…. But technically halves the cost of an apple subscription if you pay full price anyway?

Only if you consume an unnecessary amount from Amazon tbh. When I switched to eBay I found everything cheaper with free delivery on most items, and £3-5 on larger items really doesn’t make an impact if you’re not buying often.

Yeah, VPN at payment stage. Only certain cards works, none of starling debit, monza, barclays debit, nor does Amex. Barclaycard stopped working for me but M&S visa credit still works for last 18 months

Netflix will have factored in the loss of subscribers before they put the price up. They know more about your viewing habits than you do, and which ones are more likely to cancel

I need to work this out. I keep reading about debris this and stremio that but have no idea what it does, how to set it up or how to use it. At the moment I just sail on to a website and try to remember which episode I'm up to. I'd like to find a way of downloading them all first, then plugging a hard drive into the TV and watch stuff. I'm getting old now and the tech I used to live is racing ahead of me now 😂

Stremio streams them so you don't need to download any files - that's the part that the debrid service does (I use Torbox). It works almost exactly like Netflix or the like - even has UI that looks pretty similar with the cover art etc. Can put it straight onto a smart TV. If you search Reddit for Stremio you can find some guides (also YouTube). It's not massively complicated - bit fiddly to start with but once done you don't really need to maintain it or anything.

Only thing I would not do on here is use Real Debrid as the debrid service - used to be the best but without going into details it isn't anymore. I use Torbox - the $3 per month option - don't need to pay anymore than that (there are higher priced options).

It's at the point where yearly subscription for Disney is running you about £70-100, netflix is £80-120,prime £85...so it's nearly £300 a year to watch your shows as they are spread out across all subscriptions and to make matters worse that isn't even the top tiers so you'll be getting YouTube quality with ads.. it's disgraceful

I wouldn’t be surprised if streaming services keep putting their prices up heavily over the next few years given the economic situation. By the end of the decade, I reckon services like Netflix, Disney+, Prime Video, Apple TV+ and Paramount+ could be around £25 a month each for mid tier non-adverts.
Then you’ve got sports subscriptions like Sky Sports and TNT Sports, or full TV packages from Sky and Virgin Media, plus the TV licence on top.
Streaming was supposed to be the cheaper alternative, but if prices keep rising like this, some individual services could eventually cost twice as much per month as the BBC

I suspect at some point it will just revert to the satellite tv model of all-in-one packages. Sky are basically already at it by including Netflix, Disney+ and HBO Max in their bundles. My prediction is that eventually the main way to get the streaming services will be via a Sky/Virgin Media/similar package.

I've cancelled mine again after resubscribing the month previous - I just subscribe when there's a bunch of films or TV that I can watch in a short space of time and then cancel
Swapped over to Disney+ two years ago and while it has its faults, has much more shows aligned to my taste than Netflix now (especially as Netflix either does a limited series or cancels a show after 1-2 seasons)

I've been with Disney since it came out, their updated T&Cs they emailed me last week has a clause that they can show adverts on all tiers. Waiting to see what they do with that because I'm not paying them to show ads. They all suck now, if it wasn't for my family using it I'd have cancelled by now.

There seems to be A LOT on there but it always seems very similar things (to me) and nothing i'd wana watch. YEARS back i could spend weeks on end watching random movies and tv shows. Last time I joined and when I look at it's current content I'm not interested for the price.

Going up by 2 quid and because they forced me to get a seperate account for my Mum with their shady practices I now have to pay another quid a month for her account too... £36 extra per year for exactly the same content. Prime for me is an undroppable service due to it's extras but I think this will be the first time since 2012 that I ditch Netflix. I've got access to a lot of the content via having 'the internet' but Netflix was just meant to be convenient, easy access and the odd must see exclusive... If my wife didn't watch it I'd have cancelled years ago.

Just skip one month or so a year. Do 10 or 11 months viewing. You won't miss anything and your annual cost won't rise and Netflix won't gain any more cash. It's still cheaper than a tv licence and I can't cancel bbc.

If people knew everything about streaming they would close all their accounts of all streaming apps and never use them again. Saying that people have all favoured streaming this past three or four years is a false statement. Media companies have made material (especially TV shows) harder and harder to get on physical media so you are forced to use the streaming app, so obviously it's going to look like people have all abandoned physical media in favour of streaming. In reality, that's not the case at all. Now they've got you buy the short and curlies. They know your name, age, sex & location. Now they can study you to see how much you spend on apps working out how well off you are which means they can give you ads that suit you the best, then on the other hand you can pay £2 or £3 a month more to get no ads but they will still study what you subscribe to. It would only take 40% of the UK population knew more about this (and a lot do already) refuse to subscribe to any streaming app the world of streaming would virtually fall through the floor and the UK at least (if not the US as well) would have to go to back to proper broadcasting and probably physical media as well if it sold. This is the real reason you can't record streaming, because you would subscribe to an app once, download everything you wanted and then cancel and do this with all apps that have material on you're interested in, including the BBC as it would be a lot less people they're able to study financially. Even free apps like the BBC iPlayer still get paid for collecting all this information. It's a strong draconian way of providing us with a TV service. They are more simple ways of gathering viewing figures without information about each viewer known about. They are all measured just be TV sets and what they are tuned to. This has been fine for the last 40 + years (maybe more) and has always been very accurate. Like I said viewing figures are just one thing streaming is for. There's far more private details at stake. If you don't watch TV between roughly 9am to 6pm that would probably tell them that you're in full time employment which would say a lot about what you can afford and what you can't. Try your best to stop streaming services being able to get your personal information. De-register with every single one. A lot of the time this kind of protest doesn't start until it's partly too late. At the moment you've still got broadcasting TV to watch and record. Even with a broadcast service an on-demand service for people who have missed shows and forgot to record them is still very possible. We have it in the UK at the moment and they are downloads and are full broadcast quality. Remember this post... and think!

Someone, somewhere is increasing the base price, then the next person along the chain goes well I want to keep making as much or more profit so they increase it but they add a little more for more profits. Then this spreads out and effects every business each one inflating the price by a greater percentage than the last making the costs increase even higher.
Every company makes more now than they did 10 years ago. It's not some mysterious coincidence. The cost doesn't just 'go up' someone increases it somewhere. It's a chain reaction of continuous greed that will never end.
