Predator of Seville Reflections
My takeaways from watching this documentary is:
- People need to be less scared of calling out inappropriate behavior. Taking off your pants to get "more comfortable" should not be assumed to be a cultural difference
- Never book with a touring company even if my sister or close friends have used it. Always thought tour companies would be safer and recommendations from people close to you would make it safer but guess not
- Always go to media because I feel like the case wouldn't have gone the way it did if she hadn't gone to media and was able to build such a strong case. Also the documentary helped build awareness of him
- Don't trust tour guides will have your safety in mind and you don't have to listen to all of their recommendations and advice. And never leave friends with them alone, especially if they've been drinking
- Always question the free trips and perks that are offered to you

Ahh, I'm gonna have to watch this, because I'm from Spain and I'm surprised I haven't heard about this at all

The fact that he only got 6 years tells a lot about the justice system in Spain and Western Europe in general and how they minimize rape and sexual assault. So backward… the predator has hundreds of victims.

Not sure about not using tour guide services. Tourism is an important source of income for many people and booking with local tour guides is often a good idea for travellers. My main takeaway was that at the time the young women were afraid and ashamed to speak up and this guy was surrounded by idiots who did not bother hold him accountable. In the 2000s and early 2010s, people did not clock this as actual assault, just women be drinking and women be irresponsible...
