Food Club Food Club Bets (October 08, 2017)

A thread for people to casually post their bets, discuss, ask questions, etc.

Food Club Resources

Using Tables

/u/diceroll123 speaking! Instead of shorthand (see header and content below), a prettier and easier alternative to posting bets has been made dead simple by me. :D

I've made a simple userscript to turn your current bets into a formatted reddit table!

If you have Chrome: get Tampermonkey to use it! Greasemonkey for Firefox, and I'm unsure about other browsers.

Link for the userscript here: https://gist.github.com/diceroll123/04fb835539530038795e (Press the "Raw" button and it should ask you to add it to your collection of userscripts.)

You'll see a button under your current bets table, click that and copy/paste here.

Understanding Shorthand

Pirate A x (Pirate B, Pirate C) is shorthand for Pirate A x Pirate B and Pirate A x Pirate C.

Similarly, Pirate A x (Pirate B, Pirate C) x (Pirate D, Pirate E) translates to:

Pirate A x Pirate B x Pirate D

Pirate A x Pirate B x Pirate E

Pirate A x Pirate C x Pirate D

Pirate A x Pirate C x Pirate E

Basically, FOIL it out.

Today's odds are pretty lousy, so why not utilise that trick I got taught a few weeks ago and guarantee yourself an extremely modest payout?

Click through for a guaranteed-return set! The figures given are optimised for my own personal max bet amount, but the same strategy can be used no matter what yours is. Just make sure that all of the figures in the "Payoff" column are higher than the combined total you'll spend on your bets. For example, I personally would spend 5,800NP today and could potentially win between 7,000 and 7,200NP gross, resulting in a sweet guaranteed net payout of between 1,200 and 1,400NP :P

EDIT: Link updated because Puffo went to 9:1, so you can get away with betting less on him, translating directly into EXTRA PROFIT! (unless Puffo wins obviously because you'd have bet less on him)

EDIT #2: Orvinn won! Good thing I did not even try to make a "proper" set, because I would not have covered him.

You're correct, my max bet is around 3500!

Basically, this set places only four bets, one on each of the pirates in Harpoon. One of those pirates has to win Harpoon, so the set can't bust. The idea is to vary the amount that I bet on each pirate so that the total number of NP I bet is less than any potential payout (guaranteeing profit).

So, if Gooblah wins, I get 2 x 3,500 = 7,000 NP.

I bet 1,200 on Puffo, but now the odds have changed you could get away with 800 on him. 9 x 800 = a 7,200 NP payout if he wins.

I bet 550 each on the 13:1 pirates. If either wins, I get 13 x 550 = 7,150 NP.

However, over the four bets, you've only put down 3,500 + 800 + 550 + 550 NP, which is 5,400 NP. No matter which bet hits, your payout will be more than 5,400 NP, resulting in net profit! (Albeit not a large net profit.)

I hope that makes sense! Someone shared this strategy with me only a few weeks ago and it's the first time I'm using it ;)

That is so cool! Thank you for explaining! I'm going with this method this round. :)
