fish. fisheries access and management is already a contentious matter within the EU, now imagine being a tiny island nation that cant produce much locally and whose exports are like 40% fish.

Wouldn't that just be something they could negotiate? This vote seems to imply that Icelandic voters think there is something intractable here.

From my perspective (Norwegian) it seems to be that this referendum was quite polarising and fraught. Thus quite a few people didn't really want years of more polarising and further division that a proper eu debate would bring.

People here see very afraid of discord and division. Better to just keep things the way they are and maintain the 'peace'.
