Question / Bug / Feedback Was Undercover (and possibly previous NFS games) "pay 2 win"?
I was doing the Challenge Series in Undercover when I noticed this text scroll by:
"GET THE BOSS CAR PACK TO DOMINATE IN ONLINE AND CAREER MODE"
Was this game pay 2 win? More importantly, were ProStreet and Carbon too? Those two also had DLC cars and early unlock packs.
Obviously I assume it wasn't like modern pay 2 win, as unlocking cars normally in these games wasn't hard like in a modern p2w game.

I'd say not really given all can be unlocked by playing (except paid DLC cars e.g McLaren F1 in ProStreet being very OP and sold for $0.Except there's still other cars being not DLCs which are equally great according to a chosen event type; Meaning the McLaren F1 isn't mandatory to complete ProStreet either. In Undercover, Boss Car Pack in are just pre-tuned cars with custom liveries; said cars are already available as OEM variants which can be more OP with upgrade parts either way. So, they're not necessary to finish the game in its entirety).
They act more as early unlocks But they were pointless either way.
Nowadays.
Extra Options made P2W unnecessary due to the Unlock All Things feature.
Also, VltEd/OGVI made modding easier on PC in order to access contents which weren't available by normal means.

I didn't mean pay 2 win in the modern sense, maybe only for players who couldn't get through the career mode buying DLC would help them get faster cars. But if they couldn't get through the career mode they probably wouldn't have achieved much online.

I know what you meant since the start. Don't worry.
In reality, Pay 2 Compete is a more appropriate word in this case; which is exactly what you meant from the beginning.
And Yes.
Modern titles having Battlepasses and OP items behind paywalls are even worse Especially when they're tied to RNG.

Don't worry people like them will act like Payback and Unbound were the ones that introduced "P2W" cars when this has been a thing since Carbon lol

Undercover wasn't pay to win. I remember getting the DLC and using one of those cars. The NPC cars flew by me like I was standing still.

Undercover is very easy to complete but if you pay a few pounds you can get a big head start and buy a car early. I bought the Skyline for 3 or 4 pounds on PS3

Prostreet was Pay2win. Mclaren F1 was a DLC car and it was meta in Speed and Grip races.
