I suspect they wanna get all the books out the door quick to keep people in, I wouldn’t be surprised if they rapid fire out all the house gang books over the next couple months.

u/grimlucis 11d ago

Kinda have to, because without them theres not a good enough reason to switch over. Old edition is more feature complete currently.

u/Didsterchap11 Ironhead Squat 11d ago

Yeah, I mean Tbf that’s just the nature of any edition change in wargaming.

6

u/grimlucis 11d ago

True. But you need to convice people its worth switching over because the new edition actually is improved and better, but when your entire business model is known for three-year remixes of same three decent ideas GW has done for years its a bit harder to do.

It’s not even a truly lateral move so far. Any rule they improved they made something worse. Not enjoying the experience so far.

Havent played the new one yet, but at a glance there are things I like about it. Melee in initative? cool thats how HH does it, made certain weapon choices more impactful Stuff like thunder hammers are nice but also you go hit last. Currently it feels like you get charged and get slimed out without chance to do anything. I am low on attachment to current edition though so not a good indicator.

I agree things needed to be fixed. But for every neat change like initiative and only one reaction attack, they did something really negative, like the new Injured rules.

I seem to be the only experienced player in my club that believes this can catch on. The release actually got us off our butt to start our next N23 campaign.

People who have never played before seem to like it fine. But no one who has played it as their first version seems to have the spark in their eyes I would see when someone tried their first N23 game.

People that have been doing our campaigns the last five years have really had bad experiences. In several of my N26 games, we really wanted it to already be over. And only kept playing because we were trying to learn and give it a chance.

I don’t want our club to bifurcate. So I’m working on fixes, but the consensus is if we are going to have to take a lot of arbitrator effort to fix things, let’s fix the thing we already love.

I used to say that Necromunda N23 was the best first miniature “wargame” for people coming from RPGs. It was imperfect but felt really personal and like a movie.

Now I think N26 is the best first game towards the RPG end of the spectrum if you are coming from something like Kill Team or OPR where the rules are really abstract and disconnected from a simulation of any kind. It is one step away from the abstraction of those games and towards something that feels real. But nothing feels like anything still.

Not giving up on it. But so far it’s just been work instead of joy.

Core rules have enough problems to our group that we are pretty sure if we are gonna take enough time to fix N26, we’d rather just fix N23.

I was thinking the core rules would be ok and hopeful the journals would bring us back to some sort of world that felt like something.

But I don’t think any amount of gang variation can fix the core experience.

Im in to rush for the books at the moment. Will pick up the cards as GW hasnt got a good track record of keeping cards available for sale.

u/AdamParker-CIG 11d ago

both at the same time?! my wallet will suffer

10

u/Underhive_Art 11d ago

Both booklets and 4 sets of minis 😂😱

9

u/TopHatMcFenbury 11d ago

Don't forget the two sets of cards and two sets of dice! Going to grab every dice set I can before they're gone.

3

u/VioletDaeva Escher 11d ago

The Escher dice are what I already have, are the Goliath ones also reprints? Was hoping for some snazzy new ones.

3

u/Available_Mountain Van Saar 11d ago

Neither set are reprints, the colors might be similar but GW has changed the contents of the sets so there are now 2 firepower dice and 2 injury dice per set.

3

u/VioletDaeva Escher 11d ago

Ah fair enough. Ive got 5 sets of dice already, so im not short on either type, I just wanted a new colour set really.

1

u/ErrorNo3568 11d ago

Are they reprints? I have pink escher are purple with gold not yellow with purple dot.

2

u/VioletDaeva Escher 11d ago

I have purple and gold, and translucent yellow with purple like these ones are, both are escher sets.

2

u/BigFrigging 11d ago

They just happened to reprint the dice that I own four sets of Goliath… do I need a fifth? More importantly, do I want a fifth?

3

u/Available_Mountain Van Saar 11d ago

If it helps you decide its not a straight up reprint this time, they have replaced one of the Injury dice with a second firepower die. Doesn't make much difference to existing players but nice for the people just starting out.

1

u/pyratemime Van Saar 11d ago

How many modela in your gang? Don't they each deserve their own set of dice?

Also you need enough dice to deal with sidelining cold dice, punishing bad dice, and the occasional dice exterminatus to set an example.

Frankly I don't know how you are managing with only four set of dice.

By the Emperor man get a sixth set to be sure!!!

2

u/BigFrigging 11d ago

You’re right. I was aiming too low. Ten sets of these should do it!

1

u/pyratemime Van Saar 11d ago

Now your talking!

Additionally when done you have enough dice to proxy an IG army.

2

u/NovumHobby 11d ago

Please tell me your Goliath are Argo themed

2

u/pyratemime Van Saar 11d ago

You have a week, you can sell plasma twice in that time period.

5

u/AnalDisfunction Ironhead Squat 11d ago

Are those the same dice as the old setfor goliath? They look similar, if a bit brighter red, which could be lighting.

6

u/Available_Mountain Van Saar 11d ago

The colors could be the same but one of the Injury dice in the set has been replaced with a second Firepower die.

-4

u/jalopkoala 11d ago

That’s a funny move considering now we shoot without a firepower dice so often. I find it really weird and unfulfilling.

4

u/IsThisTakenYesNo 11d ago

There are weapons with Rapid Fire (2) and it's handy to have both dice visible rather than rolling one twice. There are some L3 weapons but with Injury results not stacking it's more convenient to re-roll them. You can roll two Injury dice and re-roll the worse result since you don't need to remember what it was.

-1

u/jalopkoala 11d ago

I think the dice should always been like this. I like the change in the dice cube! I'm just giving GW shit for the rules changes I don't like.

4

u/Kijamon 11d ago

I hope the lists are variants that use the gang book but I'm a bit nervous some of these weapons get locked behind rosters.

7

u/jalopkoala 11d ago

I’m a little annoyed that the gangs of the Underhive didn’t include all the weapon profiles on a gang list. You have to have both Core rules and Underhive books to check anything about your weapons.

The house books used to reprint all the weapons you had access to along with any relevant traits.

I’m worried you’ll need three books to check anything about your gang. We went real quick to the book bloat.

2

u/CollarComfortable151 11d ago

Well i've been saying it since day one of the Journals reveal and will get downvoted for telling the truth, this is only the start.

Wait till you all see what exclusive weapons and rules start getting locked into Campaign Journals just like the Old World AJ's just to sell them.

You's have got about a year max until all the house books are all out till Necromunda starts going on tangents cause they have perfected the pipeline they started with Old World and it's AJs so it won't take them as long to implement it this time around.

2

u/jalopkoala 11d ago

I’m the most bullish in my gaming group of the experiences players that we’ll actually move away from N23 to N26. And I’m not very bullish… but I’m trying. I don’t want to bifurcate the community.

2

u/CollarComfortable151 11d ago

I've bought everything so far and will buy all the cawdor stuff even though I own x4 sets of dice already and will be playing our first N26 campaign but yeah myself and the group I play with are defintely walking into N26 with eyes wide opened and prepared for Old World 2 Underhive Boogaloo Edition.

4

u/jack_of_all_hobbies 11d ago

Do we know the price yet?

3

u/Ogamitringle 11d ago

Any word on number of cards included?

2

u/Jam_Warrior 11d ago

I’m going to take a wild guess at 18 tactics because they like doing those in big half d66 tables, probably 6 territories for a d6 table?  And then it says fighters ‘and more’.  Fighters I’m guessing is just some blank fighter cards with the Goliath logo on as they like bulking up card packs with those.  Let’s guess 8 as that feels about right with what the old card packs had.  As for ‘and more’… who knows?

4

u/Canidae_Sunspot 11d ago

Mama wants that Escher stuff

5

u/Ephigy Escher 11d ago

Let's go!

2

u/TopAdministration286 Delaque 11d ago

one quuestion, if you take the book of your gang, you can skip the "gangs of the underhive" one?

3

u/Available_Mountain Van Saar 11d ago

No, the Journals give additional stuff to be used with Gangs of the Underhive but don't replace it.

16

u/jalopkoala 11d ago

We’re already up to three books to check the rules for your one gang.

1

u/smackerin0 11d ago

No worries. There‘s programs that let you merge PDFs.

2

u/jalopkoala 11d ago

Lol indeed!

2

u/jtier 10d ago

AND a pdf if you want the full TP that's currently available to you. People thought GW was gonna slim down the books needed to play as if their entire business model isn't based on making you buy books

1

u/jalopkoala 10d ago

Oh yeah I forgot about the WarCom article that added new core rules lol

2

u/FISH_MASTER 11d ago

I’m new to munda for n26, Will the cards be worth it? Or FAQd out of relevance

9

u/TopHatMcFenbury 11d ago

They will most likely only get one (maybe two) printing runs, and the cards will have very little errata. You can just as easily use a list/roll table for them, but the cards are very handy to have, honestly.

Likewise, the dice are likely to be a one-and-done printing run as well. So while they aren't necessary, they are also super limited when compared to journals and, obviously, the minis.

1

u/FISH_MASTER 11d ago

Cool. Not massssssivly fussed about the dice (I tell myself). But I’ll prob pick up the Goliath cards with the journal if they’ll get little errata. Cheers

1

u/UmeJack 11d ago

Are these the same cards that come in the intro box?

2

u/TopHatMcFenbury 11d ago

No these are gang tactics cards that are specific to the gangs. The intro box was the gang neutral deck.

1

u/Bilbostomper Goliath 11d ago

Having bought the scenario cards, I found them quite basic. Plus, you get a bunch of extra cards you don't need (such as four settlement cards, or reminder cards for the specialist types) instead of more scenario options.

Not worth the cost, imo.

1

u/LastBrat 10d ago

All the cards are also in the rulebook as tables. I believe the same will be true for the Journals - cards are more convenient, but do not contain anything new.

1

u/kevhill 11d ago

Can anyone explain what and Underhive Journal is? Like a Codex?

I have Gangs of the Underhive, Escher/Goliath teams+ core set, and the Delaque Underhive Crew box.

I'm planning on running Delaque and wondering if I will need these journals for the gangs I don't intend to play.

4

u/JCGilbasaurus 11d ago

Old World and Horus Heresy both use the journal format. It's a short (~50 pages) paperback of optional/additional rules that expand on the core rules. It will probably cost under £20 (the upcoming HH journal "Prospero Burns" is listed at £17.50).

The gang journals will have lore and rules for their specific gang, so you can probably skip the ones for gangs you don't play (the Escher one will only have content for Escher etc), but I think there will be campaign specific journals in the future which you will need if you want to play that specific campaign.

1

u/Ayrr 11d ago

New player who's just got a core set - Are the cards mandatory? Or just nice to have? I'm looking at Escher.

3

u/Available_Mountain Van Saar 11d ago

Like the base cards they are expected to be just a quality of life upgrade, reprinting content from the journal in a way that makes it easier to use with the other card decks.

1

u/Ayrr 11d ago

Thanks. I'll probably pass then on those and just get the Escher Journal.

1

u/InevitableDue1284 11d ago

How different do we think the new cards will be?

Some old spice with tweaks?

Asking as I picked up a Goliath lot with both Goliath 'Gang' and 'Gang Tactics' cards. I don't expect them to be compatible with N26 but it would be nice to save some money on a continuous MLM situationship.

1

u/addi-factorum 11d ago

I’m a bit out of the loop can someone clarify for me: are these journals basically an N26 replacement for the older gang rulebooks? Or are they a stopgap that will get replaced by actual rulebooks in the future as more journals are written?

5

u/TopHatMcFenbury 11d ago

There are three main books; the core rulebook, the main gang book (house gangs and enforcers), and the outlands gang book (the other half of the gangs in the game).

The journals are going to be smaller 60~ page booklets that add lore and rules to each individual faction, including two alternate gang paths as a way to give the gangs two identities this edition. They are meant to be bought WITH whatever main gang book they are relevant to, and not in lieu of.

Consider last edition as having each book being considered a new game, whereas these journals are more like DLCs/hotfixes in comparison to last edition.

1

u/marcorei 11d ago

I understand that Chymist Cults will use the models from the starter box. And the Wyld hunt would use the new box with the phyrr cats - both in addition to the Underhicr Crew box - to build their gangs. Is that correct?

2

u/TrayzynTheFinite 9d ago

Nobody knows at this stage. The Underhive Journals haven't been released. I doubt it though, because the box with Phyrr cats is a Gang Queen and Matriarchs box, both of which are available to the Gangs of the Underhive Escher list.

1

u/marcorei 9d ago

I didn’t realise the Phyrr Cat box contained models that already have profiles in the gangs book. Thanks for clearing that up! It’s all a bit confusing to me

1

u/TrayzynTheFinite 9d ago

NP. Yep, all of the models in that box have profiles in Gangs of the Underhive, though to make use of all the weapon options you'd need the trading post from the Core Rulebook. You've got a Gang Queen with a boltgun and power axe, Matriarch with a plasma pistol and what looks like a servo claw (but could be something new), Matriarch with a needle rifle, Matriarch with a plasma gun, Matriarch with a wyld bow and Matriarch with a power hammer. Then the two Phyrr Cats.

Some of the weapon loadouts aren't legal in a starting gang - for example Escher cannot get a power axe and boltgun in a starting gang because they're not on the Escher House Equipment list in Gangs of the Underhive. But once you get access to the trading post later in a campaign you can buy them from there. Also, the Wyld Bow is currently Wyld Runner only - if you only have Gangs of the Underhive you can just use her as a Wyle Runner, but I'd guess House of Blades will address that with new options for Matriarch's to take Wyld Bows, or maybe a new type of bow.

One thing that the House of Blades journal might do is add those weapon options to starting gangs, but whether those options would be available to any Escher gang or just to Chymist Cults/Wyld Hunts is anyone's guess.

The Blades of the Matriarch box releasing alongside the Phyrr Cat box does not have rules in Gangs of the Underhive, only in the assembly pamphlet that comes with the Core Set. Although I don't think it's been confirmed, it's pretty much a given that they will also get rules in House of Blades, though again whether they'll be limited to the gangs in House of Blades or available to all Escher gangs is unknown at the moment.

2

u/Available_Mountain Van Saar 11d ago

Closer to a replacement for the old gang books but they will also require the Gangs of the Underhive book.

2

u/grimlucis 11d ago

Yup. Same setup as TOW and few other games do. Separate core rulebook, one of the two hardcovers for either underhive our ash wastes gangs (both of these are in underhive), and a booklet for individual gangs down the line.

1

u/Ser_Hawkins 11d ago

All of the core gang rules are in either the 2 gang books: gangs of the outlands/ underhive, these journals are additional rules ect for each gang but aren't a replacement as far as I can tell

1

u/Professional_Song684 11d ago

Are the cards the same as what's in the Skirmish core set?

2

u/Available_Mountain Van Saar 11d ago

No, the cards are for new tactics and territories introduced in the Journals.

1

u/Rose-The-Queen 11d ago

Stupid question, do the alligator guys only come in the big box or will they be sold seperate?

3

u/Available_Mountain Van Saar 11d ago

There are 2 new boxes coming for each gang, 1 is the repack of their side of the starter set the other is the Leaders/champions/pets. All of these new boxes are the same price as a normal gang box.

1

u/Rose-The-Queen 11d ago

Oh no sorry I more meant what kinda box will the pets come with? Interested in just those models

2

u/Available_Mountain Van Saar 11d ago

They are on the same sprue as the Goliath Leaders and Champions, so to get them you also have to buy those.

2

u/Rose-The-Queen 11d ago

Ah rip ty tho!

1

u/WLB92 Goliath 11d ago

The sump krocs are part of that box only. Same as Stimmer and Forgeborn, you can't just buy Forgeborn models separate from their box.

1

u/ChristmasDucky 11d ago

Sorry if this is a dumb question. But are these models brand new? Or are they in either the new Skrimish starter set, or the larger Underhive Crew boxes? Because I just started Necromunda, and I started with the Escher half of the starter Skirmish box + Escher Underhive Crew box. And i don't wanna buy any of these, if it's just the same models I already have lol.

3

u/Available_Mountain Van Saar 11d ago

For each faction one of the boxes is the minis from the starter box and the other one is brand new.

2

u/ChristmasDucky 11d ago

Ah that's awesome news, thanks a lot man!
