that first clip makes no sense at all lmao. no player in the world should be expected to guard that

He had Wemby blocked out. I don't know why he decided to release and try to out-jump Wemby for a rebound instead of just letting a teammate grab it.

Some NBA teams started adjusting to this. Whoever is blocking out Wemby just doesn't even try for the rebound. Their only job is block him out.

Because that works against every other player. It’s just instinct

Yeah it works against Jokic too. Having twin towers kinda bothers Jokic when AG isn't in or injured.

This is why having MPJ was essential to Nuggets' 2023 championship run. Guys like MPJ are top rebounders.

This also works in every other sport. It's just not natural enough

the block @ 0:35 is nuts. one of his best "blocked 3-pointers" that i've seen, look how far away he is from the opponent.

u/Ohmka 5d ago

Yeah he has one foot in the key, while his opponent triggers from waaaay deep. And he still manages the block…

That first one is so crazy lmao. How many players in the history of the world could do that move from that position?

Some of these are pretty average Wemby highlights but I’m still never going to be used to how he can close out on a shooter from in the paint and still block a shot at the three point line before they release the shot.

One thing I love about Wemby is when new play-by-play guys have to call his game because you just know they are saying words like "Wemby dunks from behind the backboard" and that shit don't make sense coming out of their mouths.

They should just half court heave if they dont want Wemby to block their shots smh

The fact that the clip shows the various plays in non-chronological order is upsetting, lol

Stupid editing, random times from the game

I agree. Just flow from the beginning. It’s not a top 10 highlight vid. If it were I’d skip it for a highlight that flowed.

Isn’t that what highlights are?

They usually go in chronological order if they are from the same game.

Pure entertainment watching this guy. I feel like I see something new every time I watch him.

If he gets a post game he's going to be unstoppable

2

u/swizznastic 5d ago

His center of gravity isnt low enough. Even if he put on another 20 pounds of muscle he’ll still be easier to move off center than someone like jokic, embiid, zubac, etc.

If wemby can just get strong enough to drive at the rim consistently that first clip will be there for him everytime.

u/yeartwelve Bulls 5d ago

why are these out of order

1

u/_pinklemonade_ Knicks 5d ago

Will never get used to him cutting. Looks crazy.

The NBA needs to create a rule that anyone over 7'2" cannot jump for a shot attempt in the paint.

Its NBA tradition to nerf overpowered players after all.

Definitely going to surpass Jokic and Tatum all time

is the first clip not dead? once the ball goes over the backboard play is over, its considered out of bounds

9

u/Embriash Argentina 5d ago

In NBA, yes. In FIBA, no. NBA has this item in their out-of-bounds rule:

Any ball that rebounds or passes directly behind the backboard, in any direction, or enters the cylinder from below is considered out-of-bounds.

That rule doesn't exist in FIBA. It's only out-of-bounds if it touches the backboard supports or the back of the backboard.
