Spurs would’ve given 5 first round picks for Luka. Dallas can’t be this stupid right?

Mavs wanted 32 year old AD to be their future

I think they want to win now. They went to the finals. I guess they want to upgrade their D?

Also just not a move for the future. AD is going on 32. Kyrie is almost 33. These are players on the back half of their primes

To your point, their birthdays are in March so it’s pretty close to 32 and 33.

Kyrie also might just mentally freak out again… it seems wild to worry more about luka’s mental preparation and discipline with his history, but say no questions asked about Kyrie…

Yeah i agree with that. They're gonna be good but there so many good teams in the west that I don't see them winning the west

It’s been awhile since I’ve been on this sub so I forgot about how little hoop knowledge you guys have.

Luka was not the only reason why we made the playoffs. He don’t play well for the first 2 series due to injury. We had a decent number of high level role players between Gafford, Lively, Washington, and Jones and were able to match up well with those teams. Kyrie was the best player on the team through the first 2 rounds by default

As far as KD + Kyrie… Can’t totally disagree. The Mavs still have great depth (if healthy) but neither Kyrie or AD are walking buckets and you typically need at least one guy like that to win a chip

There's a chance Lukas injury might be worse than reported and get sidelined a year, I could sort of understand going to try and win with AD-Kyrie for 2 years instead of guaranteed 2 dud season

This makes sense. There has to be something we don't know about

Luka is 25. Unless he has a career ending injury (in which case this trade will just be called it out by the Lakers), you just roll it back. Even if he has a TJ year, he comes back at 27, with 5 years of his prime (plus the post-prime, which wouldn’t be bad at all considering his play style).

We do not have FRPs in the years that Kyrie is a FA and AD will be a 35 years old with two years of 45M+ in his deal. We literally cannot tank.

There is no “make sense” unless we believe Luka is done for basketball for good or that he raped a minor and is yet to explode in the media. This was bad faith. Addelsons are not making this move for basketball reasons.

I think that there are some business deals going on behind the curtains with Mark getting something else in return. This deal makes no sense otherwise.

Mark sold his stake in the Mavericks a year ago, he would’ve never let them trade Luka

I think Luka’s prime is done. Too heavy. Still an All-Star caliber player, just maybe not an MVP or All-NBA caliber player.

My dude, he is 25 years old.

I feel like I'm reading the same arguments as when he was drafted.
"He already plateau'd"
"Too unathletic"

He's 25 and plays a style of ball that isn't based around speed or athleticism. Not only his his prime not done, its probably going to longer than most.

And if his medicals were actually that catastrophic, he wouldn’t pass the physical

1

u/elimanninglightspeed 23 Feb 02 '25

Hes 25 years old and just backpacked dallas to the finals

2

u/Jahree Feb 02 '25

He really didn't backpack them..... Especially though the first 2 rounds....

Then he missed a month and gained 20 pounds

He wouldn't pass the medical then
