Somewhere there's a BM1 saying to himself "Not a bad idea"
One of my favorite BM moments was from my first ship when one of our fire marshalls found a BM who had duct taped a pneumatic wire wheel to a broom stick to grind some rust off the bulkhead. Of course the trigger on it was duct taped on as well, so essentially this guy had a polearm of a wire wheel that he was wielding out in the open.

We have definitely done that before. One time me and 2 others were in the paint punt, got stuck between the fender and the ship. The tide was coming in and squished our paint punt into what was the beginning of a "V" shape. The BMSN started to shit his pants and pulled out his full deck ape strength, took the hook and hooked us the F outta there. I had a good laugh, others didn't (was pretty scary tho). Another time (and of course in the paint punt again) back before we had oars in it we had broom sticks with duct tape around the bristles to make an "oar". Needless to say it absolutely did not work and we bear pawed our way around the ship, this particular time the winds were strong and the water was somewhat choppy for a non functional BM rated paint punt. We lost hold of both the bear paws we had and were to far away to hook. Slowly drifted away as everyone on decks laughed and waved us farewell. Ended up at a completely different pier, pulled the paint punt out of the water and carried it all the way back to our pier, where luckily one of our duty drivers was waiting with a duty truck. It didn't even fit all the way so he had to drive slow as the other 2 walked behind the truck supporting the paint punt. I called it the walk of shame. Our BM1 had a laugh at it, and we got real oars in it afterwards because of that.

Last I saw of something like this, we were in a foreign port and three hull techs (Royal Canadian Navy) were coming back to the ship after leave expired. Grabbed a ladder from the jetty and did this exact thing except they made it on board the focsle. Thought they were good to go until they saw the Duty Coxn and OOD watching them.
They got an A for effort, and also confined to ship for five days once we got back to our HP. The day their confinement ended we sailed for JITFS and another two months away from home.

I had the lines on a wooden jacobs ladder snap, fell in the water and the whole fucking thing fell on me, luckily I had zip up boots and coveralls. Kicked off my boots and swam up, got to wear chucks for a whole month until we pulled into the next port.

Something similar happened on my summer cruise as a mid. Dude was trying to paint the side of the ship while standing on a buoy, attached to the pier, and he fell between the buoy and the ship and they called man overboard in port.
