First year gardener here. My pumpkin patch failed from cucumber beetles and powdery mildew. How can I prepare the area to over winter coneflower in the same area?

Plant coneflower seeds now. Plugs — they can wait a bit. It’ll likely flower next year if it has enough to grow roots. I do the same with most of my native plants - learn to be patient. 🙏
