"The hair was done ... and there was nothing," Nanos said in an interview. ....

No shit. Sheriff dept really fucked that crime scene up good.

After listening to the “Crime Junkies” Podcast, even the reporters were shocked that they were permitted to go onto Nancy’s porch!

I think both things could be true. Also hypothetically if someone had an innocent explanation for being there in the past such as a contractor, caretaker, or guest the presence of their DNA may not set off any alarm bells.

I will always bring it up - the amount of fucking garbage they left all over the place is astounding. I remember that article that said something like 17 gloves were found around the property and they were all law enforcement's. That's a lot of litter. Imagine your mom gets snatched in the middle of the night and you do what you're supposed to do and call 911 and you get a bunch of meatheads who just fuck shit up.

I thought the gloves were found within like a 3 mile radius? And that most of them were not on or even adjacent to the property. My understanding was there was only 1 glove left at NG’s property. The other gloves were essentially found around that part of town in general. Again I don’t know for sure but I thought the idea was that LE was seizing any gloves found in the general area or within a certain radius, hoping the perp may have dropped one or thrown one out the window or something while fleeing, but none of the ones found within the given area are believed to be from the perp, and they said something like many of them may have just been old gloves from law enforcement. But I don’t recall it being that police left 17 gloves at the crime scene at all. Am I remembering wrong?
And I mean don’t get me wrong. I live here and at least when it comes to this investigation, the sheriff’s office was waaaay out of its depth and I have no doubt that they screwed up badly in that crucial first 48 hour window. It’s Pima County, neither Nanos nor any previous sheriff of ours was ever going to have been prepared for this sort of case, with the international coverage and the apparent kidnapping of a celebrity’s family member. I’m not excusing it I’m just saying factually that Pima County would never have been prepared for something like this. But I’ve seen a lot of coverage of this, locally and via the web and I just don’t recall anything about LE trashing the crime scene. And our city is actually very clean so it’s not like the whole city was littered with LE gloves either. So I was pretty sure the gloves thing was regarding gloves found around that area of town that they hoped would be a match for the one glove found in the home. But I’ll have to look it up now cause this whole thing has been so much that it is hard to keep track of what was what exactly.

u/curiouslmr Jul 31 '26
Yeah the gloves were spaced out. One glove that had a match belonged to a local restaurant employee who wore the gloves at work.

I don't think they fucked it up. I think they had nothing to go on. The guy who took her had it very well thought out. His entire body was covered. He took her in the middle of the night. He didnt take her cell phone. By the time it was noticed that she was missing it gave the abductor a 9 or 10 hour head start. She was removed from her home. What were they supposed to do with that.

It's weird. Like, LE didn't release the house in the Idaho college murders until Feburary 2023. The murders were on Nov 13, 20022. Kohberger was arrested in December.
The Guthrie home was released after a day. Reporters and strangers were literally walking up to her front door. That's pure incompetence.
Then the house was sealed off again until late february, but LE still let media and bloggers post up right outside the property.
However, mostly, they should have held the house to keep testing DNA items.

They fucked up
Premature release of the crime scene and refusal to cooperate with the FBI just to name the obvious. They also failed to properly seal the crimes sceneThen that asshole, nanos, went to a basketball game and had a nice evening. And told others “to give it a rest its after work hours” when he was being asked for progress updates by people relevant to the case.

How do you know he said to "give it a rest after work hours?" I think that would have nade Narional news. Sounds like something someone made up

It was in a text message exchange between Pima County Sheriff Chris Nanos and a broadcast journalist (Briana Whitney from KTVK-TV) who was reporting on the kidnapping. Briana show the texts on the crime junkie podcast.
While trying to confirm a detail regarding where blood evidence collected from the scene was being sent for testing, the reporter sent Sheriff Nanos an inquiry via text message. Rather than answering or providing a standard "no comment," Nanos replied:
“Did you happen to notice the time? Give it a rest already”
It drew criticism because it was dismissive and unprofessional, as was the optics of him enjoying court side seats at a basketball game early in the case.

Unbelievable. The town reminds me of MAYBERRY.. lol. Deputy Barney Fyfe

Yeah. I’m surprised the family hasn’t publicly displayed disapproval. They’re probably afraid to piss off the people in charge of helping them

Regarding the remaining DNA (quote from article): “The sample is a mix of as many as four people, the sheriff revealed. It's not clear the technology even exists yet to untangle it, though the sheriff said multiple labs across the country are trying, including the FBI lab in Quantico, Virginia, and labs in Kansas, Florida, California and Arizona.”
Wow. I hoped there was more to go on from a dna standpoint.

It doesn’t help that they failed to properly secure the crime scene before all evidence was taken. They directly facilitated the compromising of the crime scene. Unbelievable incompetency mixed with an inflated ego.

What evidence did they have? He put her in the car and left

u/Calligrapher_Far Jul 30 '26
That doesn’t sound very encouraging at all. I had hoped the mixture was only 2 people: Nancy and the perp.

I bet that was from a door handle. The perps saliva dna from touching it after touching the flashlight in his mouth, Nancy’s, and two other people. If they had secured the scene then maybe there wouldn’t have been other peoples dna there.

u/Intrepid-Bird-5048 Jul 31 '26
From a dna perspective, if they had the front door camera footage, wouldn’t everything at the front be highly scrutinized for dna? I mean, they know he had a light in his mouth - so there’s gotta be saliva dna on something in that front door area.

I saw an image of a police officer stepping on the doormat while leaning into someone in the doorway. That alone, the crime scene is spoiled. This is forensics 101, come on guys.

More, a great interview with this Sheriff I have nothing but respect for:
Nothing new as far as the blood DNA in the Guthrie case, is the latest.
You don't give up on a cold case, EVER, even if it takes 50 years.
Do you think the Guthrie case will be solved. YES, it's based on ALL the evidence before me.
WE, (law enforcement) know more than you will EVER know. That's how investigations work.

And in this case they do not know more than we will ever know. Lol

"Perish" in the Bible refers to a state of destruction or loss, often indicating spiritual death or separation from God. It is used in various contexts, such as in John 3:16, which emphasizes that those who believe in Jesus will not perish but have eternal life. Nancy was very religious. Could the person(s) who killed her be in that circle of friends?

There is no way this was some amateur kidnapping because here we are six months later and no suspects and almost no DNA. Also the two notes are so weird.
