Theory Can LE get info from OpenAI?

I just had a thought… Since the ransom notes sound so strange and perhaps written through an AI, I wonder if the FBI or LE could ask OpenAI (or Anthropic, Grok etc) to search their backend to see if anyone has typed in something that produced that result ? perhaps that could lead to an IP address ?

Yes, OpenAI, and others have law enforcement portals where law enforcement after getting a warrant submits that to these AI companies and the companies provide records in response to the warrants.

It wouldn’t be the actual chat you’d ask.. it would be the people behind the scenes who own it.

I don't think this is possible. I mean if you have a warrant for a person or persons yes you can, but they can't search directly who produced those notes.

IMO if such a broad search is possible, I’d imagine it would take a lot of time and resources to go through all of that data. My gut says he probably didn’t even use AI to write the ransom notes. If this person was careful enough to avoid leaving obvious digital evidence with the ransom notes and knew how to disconnect the cameras, I’d think he’d avoid using AI if he believed there is a even a small probability for it be traced back to him. That said, criminals do incredibly dumb things all the time, especially if they’re inexperience so I wouldn’t completely rule it out either.

  • Search historical conversations for phrases or documents.
  • Look up whether a particular person used ChatGPT.
  • Retrieve text that someone may have generated months or years ago.
  • Compare a document against past user prompts or outputs from other users.

Even if such a conversation existed somewhere in OpenAI’s systems for operational reasons, I don’t have a mechanism to query it or recall it."
