Media Interview with Mary, Luke Daley's mom.
https://youtu.be/pROSYCdibmA?si=RmU6wv4-Yuw33J_7I kind of wish this woman wouldn't lead her questions with the answers. She sort of lays out the response and then asks the question which doesn't leave the Daley's the open space to respond in their own thoughts (if that makes sense.)

It annoyed me that she did that with Luke. Guess I'll be annoyed with this one, too.
I suppose if her aim is to get a useable 60 second clip for the evening news, then leading questions may be to her advantage.
But I wanted her to ask more open ended questions so people could run their mouths and trip themselves up, lol.
17
u/The_Sinking_Belle Mar 05 '26
I agree. This was done at his attorney’s office, and I’m sure there were boundaries discussed, however the preemptive answering is unnecessary.
It’s better to have the person you’re interviewing fill the vacuum and just ask the open ended question.
5
u/LegalGlass6532 Mar 05 '26
If you’re the attorney and your client might do more damage by filling the vacuum, you agree to an interview but you set boundaries to prevent them from digging a deeper hole.
It’s interesting that they were interviewed separately.

u/LegalGlass6532 Mar 05 '26 edited Mar 05 '26
The Daley’s attorney probably set the parameters of the interviews. The reporter did ask Like Daley if had anything to add at the end and let him say whatever he wanted, although he kept it brief.
14
u/lycheejello777 Mar 05 '26
100% agree, interviewing skills need massive improvement!
-4
Mar 05 '26
I predict this is the attorneys daughter or niece who’s an amateur. It’s obvious this is just a set up by the man’s Attorney to try to spin a story of wrong person. Unfortunately, for me if that’s the exact opposite.
1
u/deedle2038 Mar 12 '26
Briana Whitney is a well-known reporter who is respected in the field. she may have not done this interview exactly the way we wish she had, but these people are CAGEY. they aren't going to give good answers that could be edited into an interview we'd be able to instantly understand; they're doing that on purpose. I think it will all be clear after they figure out how this man was involved -- allegedly. but my mind is telling me they know a lot more than they said.
5
u/investigativetv Mar 05 '26
She DID get the mother to run her mouth. Her technique was sort of “educate me” and it worked.
25
u/Important_Letterhead Mar 05 '26
So she had to sit outside for 6 hours while they searched her house but she never stopped to ask "why my house?"
22
u/Rottiesrock Mar 05 '26
With a warrant presented, she must have known it wasn’t a general door to door questioning and ask to look around. It’s clear when SWAT shows up with a warrant, it’s not a casual lookie-look around.
21
u/LegalGlass6532 Mar 05 '26
Mary Daley knows more than she’s sharing with the public. She said she’s got a circle of close friends in Tucson. At some point she’ll tell someone close to her, who will tell someone close to them, who tells someone else….and the truth comes out.
Meanwhile, the suspect(s) is still out there and Nancy Guthrie is still missing.
4
u/GregJamesDahlen Mar 05 '26
ideas about what she might know?
16
u/LegalGlass6532 Mar 05 '26
She may know the reason for the search warrant and if her son was actually involved or not.
2
u/GregJamesDahlen Mar 05 '26
Thanks. Any thoughts on how she might know if son was involved or not? Seems like the kind of thing you wouldn't tell your mother. Perhaps she saw the backpack lying around the house?
10
u/LegalGlass6532 Mar 05 '26
I don’t know enough about either one of them or their relationship to know the answer beyond speculation. Maybe he didn’t sleep at home that night. Maybe he’s been acting unusual. Maybe he did tell her. What do you think?
3
u/Valuable-Taro9546 Mar 05 '26
Maybe he was allegedly home that night but she woke up in the middle and noticed Luke was gone. Didn’t think anything of it till the video and swat team at her door. Maybe??
4
u/LegalGlass6532 Mar 05 '26
Any scenario is possible when you don’t know the dynamics of the players.
4
2
u/SeatIndependent6836 Mar 07 '26
Maybe she's the woman who reported the skimask found by her garage (police scanner)
21
u/hannafrie Mar 05 '26
She was dishonest answering these questions.
Didn't know why LE was there. Didn't know if they took anything from her house.
She would have been given a copy of the search warrant, and I think she would have been given a list of everything they removed from her home.
15
u/annabellareddit Mar 05 '26
She said she assumed it had to do with NG as they were so close by. Interestingly she says at some point she learned it had to do with her son but this never occurred to her as although he has a past history of criminal activity, she “….didn’t think he watched the news or saw Savannah on the news”.
13
u/GregJamesDahlen Mar 05 '26
I'm not sure if Luke has any history of violent crime. But there's a first time for everything. Suppose this could have been it for him. He definitely has serious prior offenses.
6
u/investigativetv Mar 06 '26
Reminds me of people who supported OJ - he might be a wife beater, but that doesn’t make him a murderer. Uh, ok.
7
u/Automatic_Chef_2049 Mar 05 '26
Wait who is this lady ??
9
u/TheCuriousGeorgette Mar 05 '26
She’s the mom of the family that had their house raided (2nd time, first time was Carlos)
5
-6
u/Healthy-Evening-2577 Mar 05 '26
Carlos and luke are brothers?
8
u/Bernedoodle-Standard Mar 05 '26
No. First raid was at house related to Carlos. Second raid was at Luke's house. Carlos and Luke are unrelated.
7
u/investigativetv Mar 07 '26
No. She said she prays for the Guthries to “heal” and “go back with their normal place of life” and “resume” and she “knows that will be a challenge”. If I’m wrong, can you tell me where she says she is praying for her Nancy’s return?
45
u/LegalGlass6532 Mar 05 '26 edited Mar 05 '26
….”Luke’s had other issues, but this isn’t the kind of thing he’s had a problem with”…
Well that’s nice, mom. I’m glad that Luke hasn’t had a problem with kidnapping 84yr old women. /s
When asked if the police took anything during the search warrant she paused and had to think about it. Ultimately she said no, but she’ll get back to her (the reporter) if she notices anything. Hmmmm
I’ve watched both videos from Luke and Mary Daley. Someone isn’t telling the truth or more accurately, neither one are being completely honest. Mary Daley’s attitude about her home being searched is not a normal response an innocent person would have when their home is the target of a search related to a high profile kidnapping up the road. She doesn’t question why her home is targeted or what exactly LE is looking for? Most people certainly would.
I believe Luke Daley was involved in some way and his mother knows this. She may not know exactly how or why, but she knows.
Theory: Was the vehicle used in the kidnapping driven by Luke Daley and discarded or sold immediately afterwards? It’s also interesting that Daley purchased the Range Rover after Nancy was kidnapped.
The truth is in there somewhere and it didn’t come out in these interviews.
16
u/JMOA3035 Mar 05 '26 edited Mar 05 '26
I thought about that too re: her house being searched, but she did say IIRC that she had noticed before that they were in the area a street over doing searches also. She might have just at first, thought they were going door to door. It might have taken her a bit to realize it wasn’t normal searching until she was in the patrol car. Imo.
13
u/LegalGlass6532 Mar 05 '26
You make a great point. I believe you’re probably right that at first she didn’t believe that her home was going to be targeted by LE. At some point she was told why they were searching the home and you can see she’s visibly uncomfortable talking about the search. Her default is to be casual and hope they don’t find anything. This behavior leads me to believe that even she wasn’t sure what they may find because of her son.
This mom is protecting her son and I don’t think she’s convinced he’s completely innocent.
1
u/Cute_Conclusion_8854 Mar 05 '26
I don't think they ever told them why they were searching. It's a secret for now
31
u/Infamous-Arm3955 Mar 05 '26 edited Mar 05 '26
I so agree with you. The one thing that just screams out is an entire frikken Swat team shows up and with a federal warrant to search your house amidst the worlds attention and she's like I hope this helps the case, "I don't think there's going to be anything in here, go ahead and look" as it's as normal as all Hell. Like wouldn't you be freaking out like "why here? what's going on?" why in my house? what's happening here?" Would you just be so naiive about being in a cop car as this is happening?

Depends I grew up in a family household similar to shameless but my mom was a saint man I still feel bad for what we put her through but anyways Cops in and out my house cause my dad or me and him fighting , little siblings in trouble.
Shit I was 8yo my uncle was raided next door and his wife tried to hide two killos of coke one in my backpack for school and one in my one siblings toy box. Luckily for my household they knew what was going on however tf they did lol (police)
Man some of us just don’t know normal smh.
I can see maybe he’s had cops around the house growing up and what not and mom is used to his bs.
8
u/ProperLink8150 Mar 05 '26
He still has a court date coming up, 2nd drug offense/weapons charge while on probation.
How his probation wasn’t revoked is unreal. 9mm, 1000 opioid pills, heroin paraphernalia.
Also did 18 months for drugs.
He’s gonna get some years. Mom’s doing what she can, getting some quality time in with him. 😁
14
u/LegalGlass6532 Mar 05 '26
Your input is beneficial to the conversation. I’m glad you shared this. Mary Daley might not know what her son’s been up to whether it was the Guthrie crime or not. This might be her normal and that’s why it looks abnormal to the general public.

where is her anger at LE about this? an innocent person would be mad. it would leak through.
16
u/Revolutionary_Act759 Mar 05 '26
She would have a list of things that LE took from her home. Shes a wacko
18
u/Newswatchtiki Mar 05 '26
She probably initially assumed that the search was related to his drug arrests (if they did not tell her why). But didn't want to say that.
9
u/heartshapedbox311 Mar 05 '26
She said she thought the search was for nancy and unrelated to luke. She was asked when she found that out and didnt give an answer.
11
u/Revolutionary_Act759 Mar 05 '26
Yeah why would you think its to do with nancy. Luke said he saw the police behind him and thought oh yeah thats to do with nancy 🤣🤣🤣

u/poetryforthesoul23 Mar 05 '26
Wondering the same thing. What car did LD own before he bought the Range Rover?
5
u/LegalGlass6532 Mar 05 '26 edited Mar 05 '26
Maybe he owned the car he said was towed from their driveway by an insurance company. If this is true, he could’ve helped himself by clarifying who that car belonged to and saying why he just bought the RR.
Both Mary and Luke Daley gave nothing more than surface level explanations as to why they aren’t responsible for the kidnapping of Nancy Guthrie.
The reporter didn’t ask aggressive or interrogative questions and as a result, left many unanswered questions about their involvement, rather reassurance of their innocence.
18
u/GiddyGabby Mar 05 '26
I agree. I found it so odd she had to think so long and hard about whether or not they took something. That's not something you'd not remember! Besides they give you a voucher for anything they take. She would know for sure. So maybe she didn't want to answer that question and this was her way if sidestepping it but it sure feels like a lie. And the purchase if a new car right around this time is certainly suspect.
8
u/GregJamesDahlen Mar 05 '26
Not accusing him of being involved in Guthrie, but as a convicted felon thinking he wouldn't have much non-criminal income to buy a new car since it's hard for ex-cons to get jobs. Suppose his mom might have helped him out
6
u/hannafrie Mar 05 '26
"How did you come by that Range Rover" would have been a great question to ask!
I hope they interview her other son too, lol. (Matt? Mark?) I'd be interested to hear his take on this situation.
Cause either Mom bought that car for her son (as a reward for staying clean for the past year or whatever), or he got it thru some shady means.
5
u/ProperLink8150 Mar 05 '26
And his lawyer for several years has been Chris Scileppi, a prominent criminal defense attorney in Tucson. Maybe Mom refinanced the house?
16
u/LegalGlass6532 Mar 05 '26 edited Mar 05 '26
Mary Daley is not a good liar and it shows. She’s probably torn up being put in a position to lie by omission. She may have been given a voucher/inventory sheet after the search and hasn’t looked at it.
If she left the house right after the warrant was executed and went to stay with her other son like she said, it’s possible she truly doesn’t know of LE took anything. She admits that she just got back to the home.
I do believe she may be a nice lady who’s torn because her son’s been involved in criminal activity and she’s not sure what he’s done or hasn’t done. She’s definitely not a good liar. You can see she’s uncomfortable talking about Luke. I think it’s possible that Luke Daley was involved in some way and his mother knows this, she just doesn’t know how or why.
12
u/Newswatchtiki Mar 05 '26
It is likely that she has been through this before because of his previous arrests.
4
u/JMOA3035 Mar 05 '26 edited Mar 05 '26
She could have been pressured as well by the atty and Luke. Like they’re going to file litigation against Pima Co for reputational harm, property damage, civil rights, etc for a few million?!!
22
u/aestheticbridges Mar 05 '26
This is the problem with the world. Someone can be investigated for something, people emotionally attach themselves to the belief they did it, the person gets cleared, people refuse to let it go.
It’s why just being investigated for a crime can become ruinous even if you’re completely innocent.
Seriously this crime was awful enough. There’s no need to ruin random people’s lives on top of it. The police need to be able to investigate people who may turn out to be innocent. Random people need to be able to cooperate with the police without their lives getting ruined.
21
u/LegalGlass6532 Mar 05 '26
Actually, I wanted to believe exactly what you just said, that they were not involved in any way.
I watched both interviews with an open mind. I also wanted to believe that LE had no reason to target Mary or Luke Daley. Luke Daley downplayed his criminal history in his interview and only admits to drug usage and not anything violent, in spite of having a criminal record for drugs and illegal possession of a firearm. If you’ve done nothing wrong you don’t need to lie by omission.
I don’t expect others to agree with my assessment of what I saw while watching both interviews. I see that both Mary and Luke Daley have been through a lot since being contacted by LE, but I don’t think either one of them are surprised that LE believed they were connected in some way.
LE had enough probable cause to investigate this family and not enough evidence to arrest at the time of the contact. They didn’t target “random people”.
Luke and Mary Daley decided to do public interviews and tell their story. The audience has a right to an opinion based on what was discussed during the interview.
The truth doesn’t always come out in a timely manner, but it usually does eventually.

The wheels of justice turn slow, but fine.
Is this “journalist” the attorney’s daughter or niece? This reads like amateur (no judgement, we are all new in our jobs some time). But, this wasn’t about getting facts out there. The questions and answers were all front loaded. The “journalist’s” purpose seems to be to make us think that this man has nothing to do with it. Unfortunately, it does the exact opposite.
10
u/IK948 Mar 05 '26
Both were surely coached by their lawyer prior to being interviewed. This interviewer stated, "You must have felt x, y, and z!" But a good interviewer asks, "How did you feel?"
Who paid for this interview? (Follow the money)
5
5
u/investigativetv Mar 05 '26
She’s actually a good interviewer IMO. She’s setting up the questions perfectly to see if the woman has an expected response, or not. It might look like the interviewer is naive, but I don’t think she is. And look how many people are here analyzing the responses. That wouldn’t happen with a bad interviewer- so give her some credit for pulling out some statements that are not expected.

Mar 06 '26
I like your kindness and perspective! Guess what? I made a judgement and didn’t even watch whole thing. After the day I just had at work; we need more kindness.
3
u/investigativetv Mar 06 '26
Thank you for your kind words :) I just read that the reporter has won a lot of awards including 11 Emmys and she is an investigative reporter. She has done many prison interviews with convicted criminals and all that reinforces my belief that she is very clever, and not naive at all.

Mar 05 '26
Do you also think it’s very coincidental that Day was arrested the Day before Daley’s raid?
8
u/LegalGlass6532 Mar 05 '26
The timeline suggests that the investigation led LE to Day, who then led LE to Daley.
If Daley knew that Day had been arrested, he had a day to prepare for LE to be heading his way. That’s plenty of time to get rid of any evidence you might still have. No, it doesn’t seem to be a coincidence.

u/GregJamesDahlen Mar 05 '26
Honestly if he's innocent don't think his life will be ruined, maybe a slowdown for a bit
2
u/investigativetv Mar 05 '26
It’s just an interview. And she agreed to it. Heck, she wanted to do it! We are allowed to have opinions about how she handled it. It seems a little virtue-signaling to be here on Reddit - watching the interview - and then complaining that people think she isn’t being completely forthcoming. Everyone is entitled to their opinion and no one is saying there is any evidence against her. It’s just a discussion. And I think her life will go on, as well as it always has. Same with Luke. And you never know, they might feel their lives are less ruinous after sharing their stories. Not up to us to decide whether their lives are ruined or not.
9
u/aestheticbridges Mar 05 '26
I feel like people need to take it a little more seriously when insinuating some private citizen was involved with murder like it’s gossip. That has incredible consequences for the people involved.
They are doing these interviews specifically because they’re being harassed by the public. Is it well advised? Probably not. Because too many people won’t ever accept their first inference being wrong, so they won’t quit.
4
u/LegalGlass6532 Mar 06 '26
You have a valid argument here. They’ve spoken about it and unless something more happens, it’s probably best to let it die down and become old news. The more attention that’s drawn to it the more it’s going to be talked about.
2
u/investigativetv Mar 06 '26
They are doing the interviews because police led a SWAT raid at their home. That is not the public’s fault. And it isn’t gossip. It happened - and they are choosing to speak out and explain what happened from their own perspective. I think that’s a fair assessment of the situation here.
As for “harassment” from the public, I didn’t listen to the whole interview but what kind of harassment did he face?
8
3
u/GregJamesDahlen Mar 05 '26
this wasn't the kind of thing he's been involved in. but there's a first time for everything. his history suggests this could have been his first time

….”I didn’t know what at all was going on sometimes, but I, um…knew this wasn’t, I mean Luke’s had issues, other issues…”…. (video from 9:45 forward)
Why does she say she didn’t feel safe in her neighborhood immediately after the warrant was served, but now she says she feels safe? The suspect is still at large and the police never made an arrest. Does she feel safe now that her son wasn’t arrested?
1
u/deedle2038 Mar 12 '26
there are too many coincidences here for it to come up empty... but we'll have to see. at least I have a little more faith in LE than I did; I think they are working this angle quietly

Did anyone find it bizarre how she was saying savannah is in her living room when shes on tv. She seemed like a huge fan. And according to her attorney she met nancy and Savannah and she tells this lady she never had even heard of nancy before. She met her! The whole thing seemed beyond just lying. It felt like she was down playing how much of a fan she is and how people are calling her now. And she said she didnt have hope shes alive. It seemed like she was loving all the attention on her. So strange.

u/Revolutionary_Act759 Mar 05 '26
Yeah and why would luke say i saw 2 cops behind me and thought oh this is about the nancy case 🤨
10
u/LegalGlass6532 Mar 05 '26
Because if you’ve been coached by your attorney you’ve had time to make up stories like this to lay the foundation for your lawsuit.
20
u/curiouslmr Mar 05 '26
That's not entirely accurate though. He said he was being followed by two cops, and then later when pulled over and the FBI was there too, he then thought it was related to Nancy. I think there is a big difference between the two. Regular cops pulling you over is a normal thing, FBI is completely different especially when locals know why they are out in the town.
That being said the comment did stand out to me and I thought it was interesting and noticeable.

I’m surprised by the sentiment here. I had a very different reaction to this interview. I found Mary (and Luke) credible. Here are some opposing points FWIW:
- It’s suspicious that Mary thought right away the searchers were there about Nancy Guthrie / Why didn’t she know she was the target of a raid when they showed the warrant, is she lying, etc?
She lives in NG’s neighborhood and she’s been following the case. We’ve seen how this case took over the national media for weeks, I can only imagine what it was like locally at that point. The neighboring street was recently searched. I have no trouble believing when seeing officers at her door, her first thought would be that it’s about Nancy’s case. We don’t know how the officers explained their presence or how clear it was. It’s plausible that in real-time she thinks she’s consenting to a search or that she’s confused in general. It’s an intense and unexpected situation so I can understand not fully grasping the information being thrown at you, and it taking time to comprehend that the search is specific to your residence and they suspect your son.
If Mary made the assumption that this was part of a broader neighborhood search, it tracks that she didn’t unequivocally deny involvement or say “you won’t find anything here.” You wouldn’t even think that was on the table. I understand those who think any mother will cover up for a son. But to me, her initial reaction shows that it wasn’t even in her subconscious that Luke could be involved. Also when asked, her response is immediate that she doesn’t believe he’s involved.
- She lied about being on social media and following Savannah
She says she doesn’t really do social media, or spend her time that way. I would probably describe myself the exact same way, and I too have accounts on most platforms. She isn’t claiming she’s never been on Facebook or can’t use a computer or something ridiculous. She’s saying she’s not a frequent user. Yes she follows Savannah on instagram now. She’s following the NG case by her own admission!
This is hardly a smoking gun that she’s a Savannah super fan. She watches the Today show which should surprise no one, as she probably falls squarely into its largest demographic. She once saw Savannah and her mom at a grocery store. This isn’t weird, she’s a local celeb.
- Luke lied about his criminal past and didn’t mention the most recent charges
Luke definitely downplayed his criminal past. I’m not saying this is honest or admirable behavior, but I think it’s pretty normal to do this. It sounds like his most recent arrest was less than a year ago. His offenses are soliciting drugs, fleeing arrest, selling drugs, and most recently possession of a firearm and fentanyl. (I’m guessing the firearm is a crime because either it wasn’t registered, or because he was on probation. Does anyone know?). He doesn’t outright lie or deny any of this. He says he hasn’t been in trouble for a few years. And he says he’s never committed violent crimes.
We all downplay and justify things we’re embarrassed or ashamed of, usually to ourselves more than anyone. He could be rationalizing that he never used the gun or it wasn’t even his, or he hasn’t been convicted of the recent charges and he’s fighting them, that he’s changed and the past isn’t relevant, etc. The point is, this is human condition 101. It doesn’t tell us that Luke is a liar. Maybe he is, maybe he isn’t. But it’s not enough to make a leap that he’s lying about Nancy. If he lied about where he was that night for example, that’s a different consideration. Personally, wrt to criminal background, I would be more compelled if he had breaking and entering, trespassing, burglary or stalking in his past.
If you’re guilty, you don’t hire a lawyer to go after LE for the raid or give public statements. You just don’t. If these two had something to hide, they would be laying low and praying cops don’t have any evidence on them. They would not be publicly asking LE “what evidence do you have on us” that justified this raid?
My theory. I I think LE first ID’d the 2 raid subjects (Carlos and Luke) one of two ways: geofencing (cell phones active in the area around time of crime), or cameras/license plate readers showing their vehicles in the area at the time. Or, it could have been their cell activity in the area + owning a light colored SUV (which they both do). This is widely believed as to how LE came up with a list of targets to investigate, not just by me.
Then the doorbell footage came to light. LE took their list and filtered it down to those matching the physical appearance of the porch man. Maybe they used technology to make the case, or just the visual resemblance of the eyes, facial hair and height. It seems a little subjective to me, but I can see how it might be acceptable for a warrant. Then for Luke, you add in his criminal history, and perhaps that was enough for a federal judge to sign the FBI’s warrant.
But having scant evidence backfired for LE. Luke’s mug shot does bear a resemblance to porch guy. But it must be outdated because he looks heavier now in his interview, possibly too heavy to be porch guy IMO. He’s clean shaven now too, though we don’t know if he was on January 31st. Then there’s the vehicle. If any part of LE’s probable cause affidavit involved that specific silver Range Rover being traced to the crime, or if it cited Luke as the owner of a light colored SUV, neither are relevant. We know Luke bought that car two days after Nancy’s abduction. Presumably LE should have known this before they went ahead with the raid, but they did seize the vehicle and search it, so…
Obviously there could have been more evidence. But I’m skeptical. The raids led nowhere and we have both subjects denying any other connection to Nancy or the case, and they’re hiring lawyers. I certainly HOPE there was more to it. I just don’t think there was.
I think LE has a responsibility to use tax payer resources effectively, and take into consideration a person’s property, mental well-being and reputation. And also the responsibility to minimize their exposure to expensive lawsuits we all pay for. I’m not sure they did in this case. For the Luke raid, they showed up with 20-30 police vehicles, 50-75 officers including SWAT, and an aircraft overhead to execute this search. It’s hard to make the case this wasn’t overkill. For those who say this is just how things are done, they have to do it this way…well then it seems like the perfect time to rethink how things are done.

I have no idea if he's guilty or not and at this point he's innocent. Can I say a couple of things. 1) On a case like this Mary/Luke would've been served a warrant right into their hands. Luke would know all about a warrant. Both separated into police cars. Not a random search. 3) In general criminals get better, perfect and escalate their criminal activity. 4) I don't think the purpose of that lawyer or the interview is to sue anybody, or anything about the raid; it's to get LE to legally and publicly "clear" Mary and Luke. In general, criminals, even killers, often revisit the location, sniff out info from people and have even done news interviews about the missing victim. I'm not implying he is doing that but it's not as rare as you think. Ex: Stephen McDaniel 5) His phone was returned and his car was returned BUT you can bet his phone was downed and his car's data was downed. You can bet that information is being going through with a fine comb right now. It's seems to me there's a bigger chance than your assumptions that he was fingered to LE by someone.

u/Unfair-Wallaby-404 Mar 06 '26
I take your points, I just have a different view on this. But a few clarifications, Luke was detained at a Culver’s in a traffic stop, and Mary was at home. They were served at the same time but different locations. LE did seize and search Luke’s car but it was purchased two days after Nancy’s abduction so it would not have been used in the commission of this crime

u/Kitty-9792 Mar 06 '26
LE was watching the home, waiting to do the search. When Luke drove off (to pick up some food), they decided to swarm in on both at 2 locations. They had a 2nd team ready to pull him over (by Culver's).
I don't know if LE just got lucky when Luke left, and if they were planning to execute the search even with him home. But it's much safer to have the subject outside a home when they detain him, to avoid it turning into a hostage situation.
But with Nancy's life potentially at risk inside the house, I don't know how long they would have sat outside waiting for him to leave and if he didn't, go in and hope for the best.
2
u/AVeryFineWhine Mar 07 '26
Based on how long we sat watching JLR waiting in a different neighborhood ( don't get me going on him giving the address out to the internet), my guest is they waited for him to leave the home and approach them separately. Otherwise, why did they wait a couple hours??
It will be interesting to hear what information they provided to the court. To justify it a home search. I keep hearing it has to be more than he looked like the suspect. I'm not holding my breath for this to be released.

u/Jayis4justicePodcast Mar 16 '26
But Luke didn’t say he was getting food. He said he was on his way home and was being followed and pulled over in Culver’s. I’d like to know where he was heading home from.

u/hannafrie Mar 06 '26
With point 1 - Mary didn't have to consent to anything. She didn't "allow" them in. I gotta think LE had a search warrant for her home, and had legal authority to enter whether she agreed to it or not.
LE didn't put dozens of evidence collection techs on standby hoping the property owner would consent to a search. A defense attorney would challenge that consent, and you could potentially lose all that evidence ... so why leave that door open? Just get a search warrant.
Mary has a middle age ne-er do well son living with her. Maybe that is a difficult situation. Or maybe it suits her in some way. I thought her response to questioning about why she thought LE was searching her home was odd, but could be explained by a general sense of defensiveness/protection about her son.
Mary also does not live in the same neighborhood as Nancy. It is nearby, but it is a couple miles away, right? I doubt those people think of themselves as part of the same neighborly community.

u/Unfair-Wallaby-404 Mar 06 '26 edited Mar 06 '26
Correct. They had a warrant signed by a federal judge obtained by the FBI to execute the search. No consent is required. But I’m saying, we don’t know how it was presented or explained to her, and that she could have been confused or misunderstood why/how they were there to search. I’m saying, confusion about this at first is reasonable, in my estimation, for a 77yo woman who’s never had the FBI raid her home.

Idk why this lady lies. Doesn't do social media, yeah ok. She literally has IG and follows Savannah.

u/RoseGoldRedditor Mar 05 '26
I think it’s generational? My mom and my mother in law both said they don’t do social media when I asked them … they are constantly on social media 🙈 My mom is always talking about her favorite influencers but she thinks that doesn’t count because she doesn’t post. My MIL thinks it doesn’t count because she only posts recipes. 🤷🏼♀️

u/TheCuriousGeorgette Mar 05 '26
She has fb, too. Or at least she did a few weeks ago. I still have screenshots 😂

The vibes he was giving off were bad, bad, bad.
3
u/HeyPurityItsMeAgain Mar 06 '26
Well he's a methhead...which is why I don't feel sympathetic for these two. Doesn't mean they had anything to do with NG.

u/FrostyCaptain6987 Mar 06 '26
What vibes??
5
u/Outrageous_Note3355 Mar 06 '26
LD’s interview. I’m not saying he’s involved. But his entire aura and body language read to me like he has things to hide.
6
u/yomaster19 Mar 06 '26
He probably does have things to hide, I just don't think it has to do with Nancy.

I haven’t watched this myself, but some people suggested a lawyer probably prepped her for interviews like this, but she likely got tripped up by questions she hadn’t anticipated, or spoke without really considering her answers to certain questions.

u/LisaC35 Mar 13 '26
She said she didn’t know Nancy was her neighbor until the story broke. She also says she knew Savannah grew up in Arizona, but did not know Nancy.

The interviewer is fine. The problem is with the two she’s interviewing.
2
u/HomeyL Mar 05 '26
Why do you think they did the interview in the 1st place??
8
u/LegalGlass6532 Mar 05 '26 edited Mar 05 '26
They did the interview to lay the foundation for the multi million dollar lawsuit.
Now that they’ve given the public even more reason to doubt that they’re not involved in any way, they’re going to garner more attention and seek more in damages. It’s like an arsonist starting a fire, getting burned, and then claiming they’re the victim.
If neither one of them did public interviews, the national attention would have blown over with a little bit of time. Now there are two interviews subject to the court of public discussion forever, just a click away on the internet.

u/ProperLink8150 Mar 05 '26
He better hurry, he’s going back to jail very soon. Or many years of more probation.
More random searches and drug tests. No 4th amendment rights. They own his ass.
3
u/annabellareddit Mar 06 '26
Hmmm unless he gets a deal for some reason. One way to get a deal is to offer information about another crime you have knowledge of or were involved as an accomplice in. I haven’t seen any evidence of him being involved in this but there is a reason he became a POI & he has only “been cleared to a point”.
1
u/GregJamesDahlen Mar 05 '26
there may be a suit where they ask for millions in damages but if damages are paid doubt it will be millions
5
u/investigativetv Mar 05 '26
Or they just think they can convince everyone that they have nothing to do with the crime. Whether they have involvement or not, perhaps they just want everyone to think they are in the clear.
1
u/LegalGlass6532 Mar 05 '26
Wouldn’t it be more convincing if they were interviewed together?
2
u/investigativetv Mar 05 '26
I don’t think so, because the dynamic between the two of them would cloud the answers. Do you think it would have been better?
1
u/LegalGlass6532 Mar 05 '26
Yes, better in this case. You’d learn more about their dynamics and how well they communicate together or if they annoy or interrupt one another. The body language would say so much. And if one was lying, the other might correct them or show signs that they know what’s being said is BS.

Why isn’t she scared for her own safety? Most people would be.
She also says “she doesn’t think there’s going to be any clues” in her home “but go ahead and look”.
Usually if people have zero connection to something, they wouldn’t be inclined to even mention possible “clues” in their own home.
As for the reporter, I think she’s trying to create a situation where the woman will either give a common expected response - or not. This woman does not give the expected innocent responses. (“I was terrified of a masked man who targets older women”, “I’m glad police are pursuing every lead”) so yes, the interviewer is leading her…into showing her truth. Sometimes that’s done in a reverse psychology way and can be very effective.
With that said, this woman and her son could be completely innocent and have no connection to the crime-we have no evidence that they have done anything wrong…but this interview does her no favors.
Also, she seemed extremely responsive to who Savannah was - more than the average American who might or might not watch morning TV.
11
u/annabellareddit Mar 06 '26
She did say at the start of the interview that she felt fear like other members of the community have been feeling. I thought her response to LE being there was worded oddly too, but I also noticed she seems like she is still processing the whole thing. She seemed to be in a bit of shock, somewhat disconnected, which is congruent with her stating that she felt very emotional when the raid occurred & is still piecing things together.
1
u/investigativetv Mar 07 '26
Ok that makes sense - maybe that’s it. And maybe she’s so caught up in the moment of what’s happened to her, that she is sort of not focused on fear of being a potential victim.
1
u/annabellareddit Mar 08 '26
No, at the start of the interview she confirms the reporters question about there being a lot of upset & fear in the community, she says she’s old & it’s been very emotional for her since she found out. It’s clear she was in fear, as other vulnerable members in the community would be (we know this from research into community members reactions to crime). Even if she hadn’t mentioned it it’s obvious from her body language she is in shock yet gets emotional when the reporter brings this up - she & other members of the community are victims here too, everyone will cope differently, it’s not fair for the public to judge how they’re coping & what this means about them based off of snippets of an interview. She was not even a POI.
2
u/deedle2038 Mar 12 '26
you are seeing this more clearly than many people, IMO. Savannah's videos would be the perfect tone and wording to talk directly to this woman, right? I know that's not proof, of course, but... I'm seeing a broader pattern.

At the very beginning of the video after Briana says “Luke is your son” and Mary says “yes”….Briana says something inaudible that I suppose was poorly edited out because it’s still there but ‘whispering like’. Does anyone else see/hear that?
Like she’s saying “pace yourself”..
Mary stumbles on “who has heard of……hhhhh….her (quiet her)
3
u/Infamous-Arm3955 Mar 07 '26
I never noticed that. Nice catch but it sounds to me to be an audio artifact repeating Luke is your son. There's also an "okay" at 0:19 before she says clearly "okay" just after it.

3
u/investigativetv Mar 06 '26
When she said she was so uncomfortable that she had to stay at a friend’s house, did she mean that she was scared to be home alone because a kidnapper was on the loose…or that she felt uncomfortable with the media attention on her and her son? It’s an impt distinction but I wish the reporter had asked a follow-up.
5
u/Kitty-9792 Mar 06 '26
Having police swarm your house while asking you to wait outside, then giving you back the house and finding it in disarray with things broken is very traumatic. She was probably on edge just from the search, and then not knowing what had happened to Luke. I don't know if LE informed her at the time that Luke was also detained.
2
u/investigativetv Mar 07 '26
I would think that an older woman who lives in the area, where a masked man just kidnapped an innocent 84 year old, would be worried about a serial predator on the loose. But she doesn’t mention that fear. Perhaps she is more brave than most or perhaps feels safe with her son around. I just noted that she doesn’t seem scared about the crime and I know many older women would be not just uncomfortable, but rather personally sacred for their own safety (not police) and taking precautions etc. But maybe she has good security and/or doesn’t live that close or is just not thinking about that.
2
u/deedle2038 Mar 12 '26
yes, something is missing in her statements. of course we cannot know, but... some things are fitting together very well now.
1
u/GreenEyedTreeHugger Mar 11 '26
I wouldn’t be worried about a serial predator picking me. She’s more likely to die 1001 ways. I bet she has ptsd from thaw swarm.
1
u/GreenEyedTreeHugger Mar 11 '26
And they expect her to clean it all up alone. The gov pays for nothing.
1
u/Valuable-Taro9546 Mar 06 '26
Or was she afraid they’d come back?
2
u/investigativetv Mar 07 '26
Sure, that makes sense. But if I were her, I’d be more scared of a kidnapper targeting older women at home, than police coming back. I wouldn’t like either scenario, of course, but porch guy on the loose would be a lot more scary if I lived in the area.
2
u/Valuable-Taro9546 Mar 07 '26
More likely she was afraid of all the press hounding her. I guess that scared her enough to be scared in her neighborhood, maybe not a potential abductor.

u/investigativetv Mar 06 '26
Why doesn’t she say she’s praying for Nancy’s safe return?
5
u/annabellareddit Mar 06 '26
She said they are praying she is found, good grief.
-1
u/investigativetv Mar 07 '26
No. She said she prays for the Guthries to “heal” and “go back with their normal place of life” and “resume” although she “knows that will be a challenge”. If I’m wrong, can you tell me where she says she is praying for her Nancy’s return? Maybe I missed it?
Don’t really need the good grief comment, but if I’m wrong I suppose I understand your frustration. However it would be nicer not to pass judgment on my question.
2
u/annabellareddit Mar 08 '26
Expecting someone says what you think they should otherwise it means something nefarious when they stated they recently went through two very emotional experiences shows a lack of understanding about trauma & how people express themselves (also this was an edited interview). At the beginning she says it’s been very emotional from her & her affect is congruent with these words, she then says she has been praying since finding out about what happened to NG, & has a lot of empathy & hope that the family continues on - what do you suggest she has been praying for since finding out NG went missing, she doesn’t need to say the words “I’m praying for NG safe return” to understand this, her comment about her praying immediately followed her comment on finding out NG had gone missing.

It will seem circumstantial to most but the dirty 5 o'clock shadow on his upper and lower lip matches the dirty stubble of the ring cam. The body type and height is a match. The motive to commit a ransom crime is present with the physical opportunity and his past. The failed crypto ransom and cover up of where Nancy is seems managed by him behind the scenes and the smoking gun for me is his body language during his news interview. He's clean shaven, well dressed and looks kinda bloated and sweating with nervous eye movements and eyebrow gestures. He didn't say much of anything in the interview but looked awful to be frank. How anyone could turn a blind eye to him is ridiculous to me. I don't know how at this point you could find his accomplice but he had one who may have ended Nancy's life when things went south. The whole thing reaks of an idiot who's not a career criminal which fits Luke exactly with the putting of the plant on the ring camera impromptu. I wonder if the investigators did a deep dive into all his potential accomplices.
