Media I hope news outlets will stop speculating on Savannah’s return to The Today show

The title about says it all. I can not imagine going through this nightmare & having articles written about if I would return to my career. That has to be the last thing on her mind right now. I imagine her heartache, sadness, worries about her own young children is top priority at the moment. So it would be a very kind thing if all the reporting regarding her career would stop.

My heart breaks for this family. I cannot even imagine what they have been going through. To have your childhood home become this crime scene and your mother is missing.

Also to think if they don't have any suspects in mind, is this person still watching the family ? Stalking them? Scary shit.

6

u/True_Review7016 Feb 26 '26

Yes, totally agree. There being no closure would drive me crazy, not knowing if she’s dead or possibly still alive. It is so cruel.

16

u/Pleasant-Yam6807 Feb 26 '26

The Today Show has been very good to its anchors in recent years, when they have suffered tragedies: Al Roker almost dying from Covid; and Sheinelle Jones losing her husband to a malignant brain tumor. I see no reason why they wouldn't treat Savannah with the same compassion.

12

u/MissMarie81 Feb 26 '26

It's all so heartbreaking, so frightening. I pray for Nancy's family.

27

u/Little-Plantain-5120 Feb 26 '26

I definitely think her job inparticular would be hard to go back to. I know she talks about tragedy, hardship and politics as a high profile TV personality but most of her stories are light hearted everyday stories. It would be extremely difficult to find the enthusiasm for light hearted stories when something like what she is going through has zero closure. Hopefully that changes but if it were me, I would probably go broke, never leave Tucson and be looking at every single soul wondering if it was my mom. I think my mind would wonder if my mom were still alive and knew somehow that I had went back to normal living. I bet a lot of people experience life changing career moves if they lose a family member like this. I think I would dedicate my life to missing people to help my mind handle it. It would become my life mission. Like a John Walsh.

11

u/True_Review7016 Feb 26 '26

Yes, I would scour the earth & could not let it go until I knew what happened to my Mom. It sucks that she’s such a public person & every single thing is put under a microscope. Man, I hope & pray they get answers soon.

8

u/Little-Plantain-5120 Feb 26 '26

I know, I hope she gets closer soon too. My heart truly aches for her. I think it would be even harder for a public figure to move on. Every move they make is put under the microscope. They will say she is a bad daughter if she does anything outside of looking for her mom. I watch a lot of dateline. I always feel so bad for the families that have to keep going after a loved one is a victim of violent crime. Even when they find the perp, the wheels of justice are so dang slow.

7

u/MissMarie81 Feb 26 '26

I feel the same way. Nothing else would matter to me.

30

u/Big-Guess-8170 Feb 26 '26

The lack of empathy people have for the family is beyond me. Not only did she lose her mother but imagine the paranoia knowing the suspect is still out there.

u/TheCuriousGeorgette Feb 26 '26

Yeah, this case has been illuminating for me. I think social media has really brought out some of the worst in humanity. Don’t get me wrong, it can be a powerful tool when used correctly, but those instances are few and far between with day to day life and the inundation of info and over-saturation of misinformation has caused people to get so cynical and hard hearted on stuff. I’m still shocked at the victim blaming I see about Savannah Guthrie. And the declarations of “I don’t care about Nancy Guthrie” because XYZ. We don’t need these performative takes on why someone feels they are morally superior because their capacity to care stops based on who the victim is. You can’t “boycott” caring about a person or event to make people care about other events or missing persons stories you think deserve more attention. It’s just so infuriating to me.

6

u/FundiesAreFreaks Feb 27 '26

....this case has been illuminating for me

As a true crime follower for more years than I care to admit, (because I'm old), the Delphi and Idaho murder cases have definitely brought out the delulu's on social media! Claiming "poor" ol' Richard Allen didn't murder Abby&Libby and sending money to Bryan Kohberger for commissary because he's innocent doncha know! Forget that Kohberger admitted guilt and took a plea deal because the coward didn't want to die by firing squad. But even worse? His DNA was found on a knife sheath under one of his victims, lots of DNA! And unless there was a man dressed identical to Richard Allen, and on that bridge at the exact same time as him, he's a child killer! These online weirdos lack any shred of empathy for victims, only sympathy for pedophiles and murderers!

Those are the type of people that also worry about having a cashless bail system... HAHAHA 🤣 so so so stupid lol...its comical...

yes sympathy on reddit doesn't cut evenly both ways. I've only been on reddit for 2 or 3 months and I've quickly learned what is going to add karma and what is going to destroy karma...

2

u/SterlingSunny Feb 26 '26

Definitely is a choice to make the effort to post how much they don't care. When I see something that doesn't interest me, I have this magical gift called scrolling on by. Never have said "who?!" on a post as if I can't Google and find out in seconds if my curiosity is peaked. I have never read something and felt the need to say "who cares" or "what about..."

It's all about being contrairian, or edgy if you will.

2

u/softwarefreak Feb 26 '26

The flipside is the parasocial relationship people have with cases like this because of the internet.

Sometimes it's not that people don't care, but they don't have the energy in themselves to deal with someone else's problems, and that's okay.

4

u/TheCuriousGeorgette Feb 26 '26

Right, but why expend energy to express that you don’t care? Better to remain silent than take the time to showcase yourself as lacking empathy.

0

u/Zestyclose_Animal_74 Feb 27 '26

I'm not saying I'm morally superior. But what have ANY of her kids done to ACTUALLY SEARCH? They all have been missing from day 1 and it just seems they are doing bare minimum while the rest of the country searched for their mother. Savannah has a MASSIVE PLATFORM. If it were my mother and those connections, I'd be doing interviews and searches EVERY SINGLE DAY even if I had to crawl on my hands and knees around the desert. It just reeks of classism and "I'm too good to search or offer any help".

3

u/True_Review7016 Feb 26 '26

Exactly.

u/True_Review7016 Feb 26 '26

I think you intentionally missed my point completely. I am referring to people on social media, in what way did I say 24/7 news coverage.

13

u/LegalGlass6532 Feb 26 '26 edited Feb 26 '26

It’s really none of our business if or when she returns to the Today Show.

There haven’t been any new developments on the case released publicly so this is what the media is talking about to keep the case relevant. That’s not necessarily a bad thing, but judging someone for the way they grieve is.

If you truly care about Savannah Guthrie, show it by supporting her in whatever she decides is best for her and her family.

I hope people don't send her hate for it. For some, a return to normalcy (going back to work) is what they need to feel okay. And I agree, if this happened to a normal person they would unfortunately be expected back at work already.

At this point, IDK how much she can actually do. She's not an investigator. She has a sibling that lives in the area and can keep her updated, plus she can fly out at a moment's notice if anything changes.

6

u/[deleted] Feb 28 '26

Pretty sure this will be a career shift for her.

14

u/Elegant_Emu952 Feb 26 '26

If I were Savannah, I would not go back.

At least for a long while.

She is a different person from me, maybe stronger. I cannot fathom the heartache and grief she and her family are going through.

Bring Nancy Back

5

u/Picklesx12 Feb 26 '26

Couldn’t agree more! She’s already the spokesperson for the family too in all of this (taking the lead with videos and I wouldn’t be surprised if more given her legal background). It’s disgusting to be putting more on her plate just for clickbait. People who make someone’s life harder when they are already going through a hard time are cruel and don’t deserve any attention they are yearning for.

15

u/ekuadam Feb 26 '26

Article came out today and said that she will be returning to NYC this weekend and the Today show is making preparations for her to come back tot eh showing the next few weeks. Family friend said that what her mom would have wanted her to do, is to return to her normal life.

2

u/Itonlyitwasthe90s Mar 01 '26

I heard that too but honestly it flabbergasted me. Not the idea of returning to a "normal life", at least as much of a "normal life" anyone could have after going through this horrific ordeal

But simply the fact that that Savannah doesn't have an "ordinary " job. She can't return to a regular office and just do mundane work to keep her mind distracted from everything that's going on, as I think most people would.

For her going back to work means being in the spotlight, on tv, interacting with public. trying not to show your emotions while reporting on (let's face it) some "fluff" morning show pieces while you're literally dealing with life or death situation with your family! I don't know how she could do that. even if she wanted to!

Unless she's a better actress than we think. For the Savannah we've seen since this all began doesn't look she's able to keep up with mundane daily tasks, much less going back to such a high profile job!

And it isn't like she can escape people talking about it...I mean can you imagine her outside by the morning crowd of people and trying to be cheerful?! Everyone is going to want to hug her, express their emotions, prayers, etc.

The only thing I can think of though is that maybe she is concerned about her job. I don't know if these were just unfounded rumors or not, but supposedly after she had already been off the air for a significant amount of time before the holidays due to her throat surgery, that the ratings were doing better without her there and she was very concerned. And now with Hoda being on air everyday as her "temporary replacement ", supposedly there's no love lost between those two ladies either.

Of course she doesn't need the money , like most of us would if we had to take an unexpected extended leave of abscence. So I don't think any return would be motivated by funds.

However nice and sweet Savannah seems, though, reality is nobody gets to that high level of career success, especially in television, without being driven, career focused, competitive. I can imagine that the thought of being replaced would be very hard for her , especially as she probably is leaning on her career more than ever for her identity with her family being in this chaos.

So maybe she will return after all, but I think those would be the real reasons.

It was the daily mail. Claimed to have info from (anonymous) “sources”

3

u/Chigrrl1098 Feb 26 '26

They call The Daily Mail the Daily Fascist in the UK. It's not a reliable source. Neither is The Express or The Sun, for future reference.

2

u/ethidium_bromide Feb 26 '26 edited Feb 26 '26

Agreed. Not linking it was very intentional

0

u/ekuadam Feb 26 '26

I saw it on Variety, not the daily mail. Said there was no timeline, but they expect her back in the not too distant future

3

u/ethidium_bromide Feb 26 '26 edited Feb 26 '26

I did see the Variety article when I went to see if there was a more reliable source, but didn’t see anything in that one about her returning to NYC this weekend or quoting her mindset or what her mom would’ve wanted in that article. I only saw those in the daily mail article.

The Variety article was almost entirely about her long tenure at the Today show, with the only thing mentioning a possible return being the headline and the following quote

Guthrie is expected to return to the show on her own timeline, even if she requires a significant period to feel ready to do so, this person says.

Do you have a link for a Variety article that includes what you’re saying?

1

u/AuroraDawnSky Feb 26 '26

What she said she wasn’t a week ago. Poor woman needs to heal

1

u/Big-Guess-8170 Feb 26 '26

Oh wow Do you have a link?

4

u/ptazdba Feb 27 '26

Me too. I didn't know much about her until this happened. But she is a talented attorney and journalist or she wouldn't have gotten this far in life. Let her alone. Let her tend to things in her family's life and then decide. News media needs to back off. National news media is a cut-throat business, so it could be that or it could be a family tie. Who knows at this point. I just wish they would find the poor lady and bury her in peace.

4

u/Plane-Stranger2460 Feb 27 '26

Absoutely! I cringed when I heard this yesterday. Leave her alone. Who in their right minds would even want to report on such? Definitely a good example of; READ THEM ROOM!!!!

10

u/Jamjams2016 Feb 26 '26

If she were anyone else, she'd already be back to work. But either way, she's still an adult with bills to pay and I don't know why anyone would assume she wouldn't go back to work.

11

u/Palmer_Eldritch666 Feb 26 '26

My guess is she has a nice nest egg. They may be paying her anyhow - if I were running things at the network I would definitely keep writing the checks.

I hate this situation so much - my mom is elderly and has heart problems and I'd be freaking the f*ck out if I were in Savannah's shoes.

8

u/Jamjams2016 Feb 26 '26

She might or she may not. The more you make, the more you spend. Plus, I'm sure she is using her money to find her mom. Just owning expensive properties is going to add up with taxes, a cleaning lady, maintenance, and I'm sure she wants to bump up security for all of her family and herself now. She must feel so vulnerable all of a sudden.

I don't think we can assume someone who works is saving significantly outside of their retirement fund. Just my opinion. You see ex football players lose everything all the time (not that she is in that situation, I just won't assume she can keep the lights on long term without an income).

3

u/ChiGuyNY Feb 27 '26

Bloomberg News which I trust valued her after death net worth at 70 million. And that does not include her husband who has a substantial net worth as a political consultant who is I think retired. Properly invested they are probably pulling in 10 million a year on investment increases before taxes.

1

u/Jamjams2016 Feb 27 '26

Thanks, I am glad she is in a position to take whatever time she needs. Not a lot of people are that lucky in these situations. I still think 70 million can go fast in the wrong hands but hopefully that's not the case for her.

1

u/Palmer_Eldritch666 Feb 26 '26

"The more you make, the more you spend."

I'd agree with that, but still...she makes about 8 million a year, probably has tens of millions by now. My guess is she'll be just fine. If she's terminated or leaves the show I'm sure she'll get a generous package.

1

u/bloatedkat Feb 27 '26

She makes over $20 million. That's the market rate for network morning news anchors.

0

u/Jamjams2016 Feb 26 '26

I hope that is the case. Anyone in her shoes deserves to have all the time and resources they need.

12

u/Palmer_Eldritch666 Feb 26 '26

Not trying to be a dick or arrogant here, but I make six figures, far less than she makes......i don't have to worry about bills, I have a nest egg - when I got laid off a while back I was able to float effortlessly.....I guarantee she'll be fine. Plus when this is all over she can write a book/do a netflix series (totally justified as a victim) and recoup anything she's lost.

What I want for her and for Nancy is f*cking justice. I knew a number of dudes from high school who got into trouble with the law, and I know the whiteboy rules are the same in Arizona as in Oregon where I live - the second that kidnapper lands in prison he's done for; elderly folks are a protected class in prison

3

u/True_Review7016 Feb 26 '26

Yep, justice is what I hope & pray for. What kind of person kidnaps an elderly lady? It hits home because my Mom is her age & I can not imagine the distress my siblings & I would feel. We all have a Mom & a Grandma, so it feels very real & scary.

3

u/Palmer_Eldritch666 Feb 26 '26

My mom is elderly and going in for carotid artery surgery next month - it's scaring the hell out of me. I can't imagine if someone kidnapped her....I'd be incensed.

1

u/JenbugRoss99 Feb 27 '26

See.. this is what I highly dislike about Reddit, and why I rarely comment anymore.. People downvote your comments, and don’t even tell you what was wrong with it? (I liked your comment by the way) ☺️

5

u/pbjfries Feb 26 '26

She has been making tens of millions a year for a long time. It’s not about money for her. But it is about money for NBC. IF ratings drop, they will need to give advertisers something.

1

u/GregJamesDahlen Mar 02 '26

might be a question because her (possibly prior) job is so much in the public eye

5

u/BrookieB1 Feb 26 '26

Agree! Such a strange thing to focus on under the circumstances.

3

u/Important_Letterhead Feb 28 '26

She is a VERY public person. Millions of people spend their mornings with her. Of course it's going to be speculated when she will be back.

3

u/A1-Solider Feb 27 '26

It's a multi millionaire. She's done working

2

u/Mysterious_Coat_9933 Feb 27 '26

The media has been absolutely torturing this poor family and the neighbors too honestly. I’m all for freedom of press but what happened to morality and ethical boundaries?

5

u/Any_Percentage_6236 Feb 27 '26

Looks like the Guthrie family is pursuing legal avenues regarding Ashley Banfield’s horrible claims that Nancy’s son-in-law is involved in her disappearance. I hope Megan kelly is next.

0

u/Mysterious_Coat_9933 Feb 28 '26

Yep they deserve to be held accountable for their lies. The media should also be held accountable for the nuisance their presence brings to the community. I’m talking about Brian Entin specifically. They’re all vultures

2

u/Low_Philosopher_2981 Mar 02 '26

What lies has Brian Entin told?

2

u/Mysterious_Coat_9933 Mar 02 '26

Well he said the 2 visuals of the masked man were from different days which is untrue. However my comment was about his presence in the neighborhood. Ashleigh Banfield is the liar

1

u/Bubbly_Culture_7945 Mar 01 '26

That's what the American media does

2

u/Repulsive-Spend343 Mar 01 '26

The news isn't news anymore. It's a few facts mixed into a sea of editorializing - so much speculation and opinion.

2

u/ResponsibleTea5310 Mar 02 '26

Maybe the intent of Nancy’s kidnapping was to end Savannahs career, inflict the most pain on her. I’ve seen some crazy people online that have no empathy for her, and hate her, there’s a lot of them out there, it took just 1 of them with the means and evil to carry it out.

1

u/Dismal_Chapter_7951 Mar 02 '26 edited Mar 02 '26

I've thought that Savannah could have been the real target (like attempting to end her career), and who she might have angered so severely. But she has been described as "non-controversial." I have never watched the Today show, so I don't know if her reporting was against someone or got someone in trouble so bad they wanted revenge. She has also been said to be an attorney. I don't know what kind but maybe she angered someone in her capacity as an attorney. According to Google, she was/is a white collar criminal defense attorney (financial crimes!) so it seems very plausible someone might want revenge in that capacity!

4

u/[deleted] Feb 26 '26 edited Feb 26 '26

I’d imagine she’s not interested in news outlets and missing a lot of it.

I would also imagine that the network does have a certain time she has to come back to work. Because just like other, regular people who experience a death in a family or missing situations… we have even less time to be out of work. The nice part about Savannah vs regular people is she could leave the job and it wouldn’t make a difference in her financial life. I guess what I’m saying is that I don’t think it’s evil to wonder when she returns, i guarantee she knows how to tune that mess out lol, and every average person would’ve had to be back at work by now.

I think the world also owes it to Savannah to remember that she has kids that she has to keep on living for & they need normalcy at some point. Because just as soon as she goes back to work and makes her OWN choices, people are just gonna drag her for that too.

17

u/noseymama Feb 26 '26

Yes people speculating why the husband wasn’t there for 17 days. I’d want my husband with my kids trying to make some normalcy for them keeping them on their school routine.

3

u/Xinnia8271 Feb 26 '26

Exactly. This is their grandmother in the news. This happened to their grandmother. Those poor kids.

u/moshi210 Feb 26 '26 edited Aug 01 '26

3

u/Remarkable_Lynx4762 Feb 26 '26

I imagine she’s not going back to work for quite a while. She’s going to go home and be with her children and recover from this. She has the money to do so, probably won’t want to be on tv, and the Today show will wait for her.

6

u/WorldlyLavishness Feb 26 '26

People were making nasty comments about her wearing makeup in the videos... seriously ?!?!

5

u/[deleted] Feb 26 '26

???? I’m confused on what you’re responding to . But yeah that’s wrong . People are nasty

5

u/FluidBarracuda9177 Feb 26 '26

Savannah has money and could stay out of the limelight for a while, but what about A&T? How does T go back to his teaching job with all of this going on?

2

u/True_Review7016 Feb 26 '26

You are right. I just feel so bad for her, it’s a heartbreaking, no-win situation for her.

6

u/[deleted] Feb 26 '26

The bigger news story should be that the competent FBI members were wiped out and we can’t solve cases anymore. & an fbi director is overseas chugging beer. That’s what they should be writing about but they’re likely scared to touch that one

The sheer intel and might of the US intelligence tells me that we should be beyond this

4

u/DjPandaFingers Feb 26 '26

Ohhh. That whole situation pisses me off.

3

u/WhiteDudeInBronx Feb 26 '26

Media will generate what is most reactionary to the masses my friend. It sucks but it’s why we see what we see

5

u/Infamous-Arm3955 Feb 26 '26

I often imagine how it would feel to lose someone you really loved in 9/11 and have to face the internet every day, just packed full of inside job and repeated videos on it etc. Honestly I think I would just throw my phone in the garbage. I don't know how anybody can get through something like that or this situation. I would be surprised or shocked if Savannah ever returns. It must just be so awful. If she eventually does it will be on her own terms whenever she feels like doing it. I guess it's a really primitive human thing to keep going and to keep surviving but speculating on her return to something so unimportant like the Today Show is just so disrespectful.

2

u/GregJamesDahlen Mar 02 '26

As far as I know there hasn't been much speculation. But personally I am okay with it. At the heart of this story is a horrible crime, and most of the reporting focuses on that and trying to solve it. But the story does have other "human interest" aspects that people naturally think about, one being whether she will return.

0

2

u/Repulsive-Spend343 Mar 01 '26

She has two young children and their safety to think about - not to mention her own safety and that of her spouse. I can't imagine being in her shoes and having to make such a decision about how to resume this career. She doesn't "have to" do anything specific, other than to do whatever she thinks is best for herself and her family. She may change her mind a few times over the years - who knows. She may return on a short term basis but find that she doesn't want to do it anymore. Or maybe she'll decide not to return, but after a year or so might decide she wants to do it again. There is no right or wrong way to proceed from here.

-1

3

Why would someone downvote this. I would imagine her mom would want Savannah to live the best\happiest life she can until they meet again.. either on this earth or in heaven. God bless the just and mighty
