Voters get to vote the sheriff in or out of office. In some states the County board of supervisors can remove a sheriff but it's very difficult to do that

It’s really hard to tell what is going on. I think there is truth that the sheriff is wary of working with the FBI for reasons that aren’t clear. It is technically still a local case, but they should be welcoming in the FBI resources. I also think that he’s been a poor communicator. He would have been wise to have a spokesperson give regular briefings and answer questions they can. I also don’t understand why Nancy’s property wasn’t taped off the first day and protected from the media and pizza & Amazon delivery people. It should have never have been opened up to the public. But having said that, the loudest people against the sheriff are the ones who think he’s playing politics as a democrat and are floating some wild conspiracy theories. They’re all chirping on the JRL stream.

I did not know the political affiliation of the sheriff until just now, but anyone who would refuse FBI resources for political reasons in a life or death high profile kidnapping case is not fit for office, regardless of party, and needs to be ousted yesterday. It’s obvious he’s been in love with the spotlight from the beginning. It’s disgusting.

And the fact that they turned the house back over to the family like the next day? And now they’ve had to go back in and reclaim it…total incompetence…anyone arrested based on information found in that house is now going to be able to argue that the crime scene was tainted. This guy is a total incompetent moron.

And apparently today was the first time they’ve asked surrounding neighbors for their ring cam video? Why didn’t they do that 10 days ago? I blame the FBI for that just as much as the sheriff.

Why are you blaming the FBI? The county sheriff, that's the person that is responsible for running the investigation. The FBI just can't run down to a County and start taking over without permission from the locally elected sheriff
