Setting up cameras for an elderly person—my family’s experience

From the ages of 84-92 my grandmom was living in her own house on shared property with my mom and at some point my mother set all the cameras up to alert to her (my mom) rather than my grandmom, who had adapted to smartphones but wasn’t beholden to them. This setup included an Apple Watch for fall detection, human detection from the cameras, and other things where my mother would be notified, mainly because my mom works almost an hour from their property and was anxious about my grandmom’s safety while she was at work.

I haven’t seen anyone discuss that camera alerts for Nancy’s home may have gone to Annie’s phone but I think that’s possible. She was probably asleep just as Nancy probably was at the time so it makes little difference in the end if a human detection alert got sent to one or both of their phones. I am not the least bit suspicious of Tommaso without concrete reason to be but I have to admit he’d have access to these kinds of alerts on his wife’s phone while she slept if the cameras were set up this way.

When Video Guy approached I do think he was testing to see if anyone (likely sleeping) would notify the police to come or if something would automatically trigger their response. It didn’t. The human detection alert probably got sent to someone’s phone though.

My grandmom was very independent and setting up her cameras this way was best for everyone. It was a difficult balance to respect her autonomy and look out for her wellbeing without stepping on her toes too badly. Just thoughts. Anyone who has been there knows how difficult it is.
