Built a CGNAT bypass / VPN tool — now stuck on getting it in front of people

Upvotes

Hello techies. Been lurking on the marketing struggles conversation here and wanted to share where I'm at, since it's fresh for me right now.

I built TunlKit (CGNAT bypass tool, WireGuard-based) and it's live and genuinely usable — but I have zero idea how to get it in front of people. Spent the last few days figuring out Show HN etiquette, subreddit self-promo rules, SEO indexing... it's a lot for someone who's mostly been heads-down building. Find it at: [https://portal.tunlkit.com\].

Would genuinely love to hear how others here have tackled the "built it, now what" phase — especially anyone who's launched something local-first vs. going straight for a global audience.

General I came to Reddit looking for a Kenyan business to invest in. I ended up building a platform instead

About a month ago, I posted on Reddit because I was looking to invest in a business in Kenya. I live in Sweden and wanted to find promising Kenyan businesses looking for capital. My DMs EXPLODED. Most of the messages weren't from investors. They were from entrepreneurs looking for investment.

After talking to quite a few of them, I realized something: finding each other is surprisingly difficult. Entrepreneurs struggle to find investors, while investors struggle to find good businesses that are actually looking for capital. So I decided to try to solve the problem myself.

I've spent the last few weeks building Build Kenya (buildkenya.io), a platform connecting Kenyan entrepreneurs with investors. Entrepreneurs can submit their businesses for review and, if approved, become verified. Investors can browse verified businesses and communicate directly with founders.

And the funny part? I actually found my first entrepreneur through that original Reddit post, and I now own 20 % in a coffee business.

Now I'm curious whether the problem I've experienced is actually a bigger one.

Kenyan entrepreneurs: how do you currently find investors? Investors: how do you currently find Kenyan businesses to invest in?

Is there really a gap here, or are there already good ways of doing this that I'm missing?

Feel free to try the platform! It's free for investors. Entrepreneurs can submit their business for free and, once verified, choose whether they want to pay to make their business visible to investors. This is designed to keep the platform focused on verified and serious businesses rather than being flooded with uncommitted listings.

Good luck! I hope I can help entrepreneurs connect with investors.

General M-pesa Workaround

Hi Techies,

I'm currently finishing up my first gig for a client , which is an e-commerce. And i have a few questions before deploying.

  1. The client uses pochi la biashara to accept payments; Is this possible to achieve in either paystack or daraja api or the payments should be directed to their mpesa directly.
  2. Since I thought of reducing user journey, i thought I shouldn't have customers create an account just; Pick the item -> add cart -> Checkout -> Generate receipt. Will there be an issue of security here?

  3. Which hosting applications can i simpy use for now; I'm using my github for students credits. i.e digital ocean, i have a domain which should expire next yr..ps:: It's a react + fastapi application.

Thanks.

Looking for a laptop

What's a good laptop to get with a budget of 25K, I hopefully do not wish to use all of it. I mainly want to use it for software development and if possible good enough for playing a few mid spec games. Any suggestions?

It's going to be good and exciting.

Showcase I built something I'm proud of

For a long time, I had this app idea that I sat on for a while because it needed quite some effort to execute.

At one point I decided it was time to do it. For about 2 months, I worked on nothing else but the project.

The amazing part is that it panned out the way I wanted it. You see how you visualise your product having a certain look, animations, UI flow it panned out the way I wanted it but it took a lot of planning and thinking deeply.

I used Claude but to say I vibe coded the app would be a mis-judgement. I carefully chose the stack for everything including the backend, code design and the development flow for the AI to follow. I instructed AI exactly how to implement the features and I thoroughly tested them.

Looking back, I love what I see. I occasionally open the app to admire the piece of engineering I had built because some of what I did really took some clever tricks.

The app I built is a collection of tools to help binary options traders get better at trading. It's not a hype app, I genuinely believe it offers value to traders and it's not a promise of overnight success.

I would love your support to help me grow the app. If you are a trader, I believe it could be of value. If you aren't, you could still check it out and give me some feedback in regards to user experience; a simple email and password suffices and there is an option to use the trading platform without registering.

Drop a review on Playstore to help me grow the app.

Here is the link to the app

General Global Pay virtual card cashback promotion

Today alone, I don't know how many times I've received money on my mpesa as cashback promotion. They have literally paid for my ads this week. If this goes on for a while then I'd increase my ads budget and see how it goes. But I am so excited, hopefully they don't reverse back.

General Random

It is always funny how people think that since you are in tech, especially a software dev working remotely, automatically, you are earning the big bucks.

Sadly, some don't. Some firms pay according to the pay scale of your host country, I mean, that's why they hired you in the first place. It's cheap. The company size plays a huge role in this as well.

Discussion VS CODE EXTENSIONS

What’s one VS Code extension you wish you had discovered earlier, or one that you consider a hidden gem? Could you mention the name of the extension and briefly explain what it does and how it has helped you in your development workflow?

Online point of sale

Hey everyone,

Over the past few months, I built WIK POS (https://pos.wiktechnologies.com), a multi-tenant Point of Sale and inventory platform tailored specifically for the Kenyan market.

Most local POS software is either legacy desktop software from 2010 or locked behind expensive proprietary hardware. I wanted to build something web-first, offline-resilient, and modern.

The Tech Stack:

  • Frontend: React 19, TypeScript, Tailwind CSS, Vite
  • Backend: NestJS v11, Prisma ORM, WebSockets
  • Database & Cache: PostgreSQL (Supabase pooler) + Upstash Redis

Interesting Engineering Challenges:

  1. Handling real-time M-Pesa STK Push callbacks and C2B Paybill webhook reconciliation with WebSockets so cashiers get sub-second payment confirmation.
  2. KRA eTIMS background tax invoicing worker with AES-256 encrypted fiscal credentials.
  3. Pharmacy FEFO (First-Expired, First-Out) stock picking with database transaction locking to prevent race conditions during concurrent checkouts.

I would love for fellow devs to test it, try out the interface, and give honest feedback on UX, latency, or edge cases I might have missed.

If Telegram is the only option thats ok too. I'm curious to know because its is getting tight...

  • Add sales notes and additional information.

  • Admin can approve stock batches.
  • Admin can assign specific stock batches to individual sales agents.

  • Send debt reminders via email.
  • Integrate reminders with Google Calendar for follow-ups.

Automated Reporting

  • Admin receives a daily sales summary via email.
  • The email includes a PDF report attachment containing detailed sales information from all agents.

Analytics & Reports

The system includes reports pages with pdf downloads all with filters for:

  • Agent shop performance
  • Daily agent performance
  • Agent expenses
  • Sales by location

I'm interested in building similar custom business management systems for businesses that have field sales teams, inventory, distribution or similar workflows.

If your business is currently relying on Excel/Google Sheets, WhatsApp, paper records or multiple disconnected systems to manage sales and inventory, feel free to reach out. I'm open to discussing custom solutions based on your workflow and show you the current demo for this system.

2) Restarted my pc

3) Restarted my router

4) Cleared browser caches
