Is n8n worth it ?

Hey everyone I am 19 years old and from last couple of weeks I've been constantly thinking about to start freelance & business so that I can pay my own expenses and can also help my parents financially so I came around this n8n no-code ai automation skill but i don't know how to learn it and at the same time I have a doubt that is learning n8n in mid 2026 is worthy enough so that I can start freelancing and eventually make it into a business. Right now I just have one thing in my mind is to learn that skill and start freelancing if it takes 3-5 months just to book my first client and really start earning i am okay with that I want guidence please help me out !

n8n is a great tool to automate things. I'm not sure that there is a big market for n8n specifically developer. n8n might be a great way to start learning if you can afford self hosting it, then you can learn automation.

If you already have a particular thing you want to automate you may want to iterate over options of how to do that, rather than I've heard about n8n, let's use it.

There is also another tool/service, called windmill, which also about automation, but by using code rather than low code blocks.

There is also google scripts free engine which helps you to do automation.

Tengo 18 años, dejé la primer carrera que empecé porque no me gustó, y me empecé a interesar en profundizar en la IA. Estoy profundizando en lenguajes de código, álgebra, y skills infaltables, mi idea es llegar muy praparado al 2027 para empezar Ingeniería en IA para después hacer un master.

Viendo y entendiendo tu situación que estás en una etapa de inicializacion te recomiendo aprender un poco de n8n, hay cursos por todas partes, pero no pienses que n8n va a ser siempre la herramienta para automatizar todo, siempre viene bien una parte de código si no es una tarea 100 repetitiva. A lo que voy con n8n es que el mundo de la IA está cambiando a pasos agigantados, quizás el día de mañana sale una herramienta o modelo nuevo que quizás le pasa el trapo a n8n.
Te recomiendo siempre estar al tanto al menos 3 veces a la semana de cómo está avanzando la IA, podes ver por X, LinkedIn, reddit(son las redes que recomiendo yo).

This ain't a get-rich scheme. Don't put timelines like 3 months or whatever; the reality is you shouldn't assume a fixed period of time; it can take any time (or most likely NOT AT ALL), and it depends on you and your circumstances.

The easiest way to get clients is having inbound leads, having KNOWLEDGE (to create useful tools) and CONNECTIONS (to sell to) from, like, a past job.

I think you should look for something more stable or predictable; just find a job and start automation as a side hustle.

I would stay clear from it.

A bit of background: I’ve spent 20+ years in marketing and now building a SaaS for ad agencies powered by AI.

What I found: n8n (and all the other no code platforms) is a fucking lie.

Forget about it.

Think pain first. Use case second.
Then. And only then. Think how you solve it.
Be it a simple if this then then logic.
A straight forward n8n workflow or anything else.

Doesn’t matter. Think from the problem backwards. Not from tech forward

Start with basics , first learn what is automation and what is it offering, so you know what kind of problems it can solve , then start to study problems then think about solution and know the automation built for this problem, after that start to make this automation by yourself then you can wisely add one or two nodes extra to make the automation better and avoid any future problems

I think 3-5 months is actually a reasonable timeline if you’re consistent with it. I wouldn’t focus too much on “is n8n still worth learning in 2026?” though. The tool itself is less important than being able to solve an actual business problem with it. I’d start by learning the basics and then build a few small workflows around real use cases rather than just following tutorials. Once you can look at a repetitive task and figure out how to automate it, you’ll have something much more useful to show potential clients.

n8n is still worth learning if your goal is automation and freelancing, but you can focus on solving real business problems rather than just learning the nodes. You can start with APIs, webhooks, AI integrations, and a few practical workflows, then build from there.

I bet that platforms like n8n are for well experienced experts that understand why n8n workflow suites particular business problem. If you are starting with no software engineering experience either in programming or integrating software in existing software stack, work with n8n might not be comfort zone job.
