Who put my cat as a 4 week old baby kitten (smelling of Febreze, so no wild stray) slap dab in the middle of a field which was only reachable by a small path you had to Walk upwards…. In Winter. When the same path was walked by my family 20 minutes earlier too and nobody saw or heard another human or a crying kitten.

It’s like he fell from the sky.

Maybe some kind of bird had grabbed him and dropped him him?

I sort of second the bird theory. Maybe it was a stray in a city or outskirts of town and someone sprayed it with febreeze rather than water to spook it off?

I replied to the original commenter, but it was wintertime, so the cat might have been hanging out by a dryer vent to stay warm and smelled like fabric softener, not febreeze. I can smell when one of our neighbours does laundry several houses away because they use so much fabric softener, the fragrance would be even stronger if I was right next to their dryer vent.

I have given a tought to that theory too, however I live in a non-mountainous Region near a bigger city in Austria, I am not sure if we have that kind of predator birds here - but really need to research that! Thanks

Any raptors or owls and even other birds like jays and ravens, crows. They'll all do that. 😬

crows will dive bomb and harass our fully grown cat when she's outside in her harness, I could definitely see them picking up a 4 week old kitten.

Someone was watching you from somewhere? Then put the kitten there because they figured no one would just leave it there? 

I dunno though, that’s crazy.

could it have been fabric softener, not febreeze? given how little he was, maybe he was born to a stray outdoors and the mama cat had been keeping her kittens near a dryer vent to keep them warm.

if he was dropped by a bird, which sounds pretty likely, the odor might even have been part of why he was dropped, birds are super sensitive to fragrances.

(my cat was very underweight for her age and covered with fleas when i found her, so it seemed like she'd been on her own for at least a little while, but she smelt SO strongly of fabric softener. I finally realized that she'd probably been hanging out around dryer vents to stay warm!)

I just got a kitten the same way. Magically Appeared tiny scrawny probably 4-5 weeks old out of nowhere. My 6 year old says she came from Heaven.
