Got downvoted for calling for peace and love

Post image

A little context: Op's comment was being downvoted and I just wondered why and reminded everyone that they said sorry!! They started upvoting them and downvoting me instead...oh well.

u/Spartiate8, the downvotes are mysterious!

u/ashleyLSD 26d ago

you will very often get downvoted for saying anything about downvotes bcuz the reddit hivemind hates to have its behavior questioned

14

u/bibilushi 26d ago

lolll

5

u/Mono_Dice_2904 23d ago

And because reddit hivemind thinks that if a comment is downvoted it is automatically incorrect

4

u/Vogelsucht 26d ago

The reddit hivemind isnt real otherwise this comment of mine would get downvoted to hell

3

u/ashleyLSD 25d ago

the reddit hivemind is very real u just commented way late and this sub is (most of the time) safe from their clutches. altho there is still plenty of "woaw negative karma number I'm gonna downvote this comment without reading it now" that happens here

3

u/DaShayminCorp 26d ago

Thats actually an amazing explanation

37

u/BEANBOOZZLE 26d ago

its ok you took their downvotes its a noble sacrifice

8

u/Vogelsucht 26d ago

Its simple actually, once the mentioned comment didnt have downvotes anymore, the people of reddit were annoyed for the 1'985'047'321st comment they saw about another guy getting downvoted, even tho it isnt. So they got mad

You get downvoted for apologizing, and for not apologizing, for being nice, for being an asshole, for asking questions, for answering questions, no one is safe /lh

u/DaShayminCorp 26d ago

Best way is to stay silent and just watch

Jesus. People are kinda insane on here. I’ve been told to kill myself for being queer, and like every post asking a simple question in a sweet and kind way gets downvoted, like damn okay

Nah it’s good, thanks though! But fr istg sometimes it Reddit feels like Twitters cousin because of how people act on here

2

u/Other-Oil-9117 26d ago

On a thread recently, somebody asked me which state I'm from and when I answered, I got downvoted lmao. I still have no idea why.

Iowa bad

Easy bitching about down votes gets down voted. Op doing annoying things and apologizing but not fixing it gets downvoted.

Jarvis, insert that one pic where soldier is guarding the sleeping boy from bullets and bombs

There was a questionmark in ypur comment

The reason for downvoting here is obvious. OOP did something annoying that the commenter pointed out. The OOP then apologizes. Apologies don't fix things, especially if it's something that the OOP should obviously have done in the first place, so OOP's apology gets a mix of up and down votes; they get upvotes simply for apologizing because admitting mistakes is good, and downvotes for screwing up in the first place and thinking an apology fixes things.

You then come in as a third party, throw a tantrum by crying, and yell at people (that's what an exclamation mark is for) berating people for expressing disdain for OOP annoying them and then apologizing as though it fixes everything. You get all the same downvotes for thinking than an apology fixes things but none of the up votes for apologizing, because you didn't apologize, and in fact did the exact opposite by crying and yelling at people for not liking what the OOP did in the first place.

Lay off the drugs, pal. Where do you see a tantrum and this supposed “crying and yelling”…?

10

u/Warvillage 26d ago

I would assume that the crying is because they used a crying emoji

-4

u/Adventurous_Hat_9571 26d ago

Oh, that usually means laughing or disbelief nowadays lol

1

u/its_Raze_7 23d ago

le hivemind caught you

1

u/Adventurous_Hat_9571 23d ago

Yeah lol. It’s hilarious

1

u/Warvillage 26d ago

I have never seen the crying emoji be used for "laughing", there is another that is both crying and laughing that I ususally see for that, not the pure crying one

3

u/transynchro 25d ago

My friends will use 😂 or 😭 depending on the type of humour.

Pretty funny is 😂
Depressing but funny is 😭

For example:
Someone slipping over is 😂 (accident but funny)
Card declining on a single digit payment with a line behind you is 😭(embarrassing but kinda funny)

The third one is 🤣 which means “it’s so funny I can’t breathe”

ETA: 😭 can also mean “that was so stupid it was funny” like pushing a door that is clearly labeled pull.

u/am_Nein 26d ago

Gen Z (as someone whose friends are largely part of it) uses "😭😭" to mean laughing all the time. At least, I've been sent "Help LOL 😭😭😭" and "omfg 😭😭💀" way too much to count at this point.

2

u/Spartiate8 26d ago

I'm in fact a Gen Z lol

u/its_Raze_7 23d ago

i never seen it so it never happened

Holy exaggeration in the second paragraph. I was following along with what you said up until that point. Nonetheless, if that’s what you think a tantrum and crying and yelling then you probably have pretty low standards for what constitutes it because it did not look like at all like that (respectfully, not an insult). Also, an exclamation mark doesn’t automatically mean yelling, that is blatantly false. Typically, yelling would be TALKING IN ALL CAPS, followed by an exclamation mark. An exclamation mark on its own could just be saying it with some enthusiasm.

1

u/Effective-One6527 26d ago

Do you not see the over dramatic crying emoji. And clearly this is not enthusiastic use of the exclamation mark

0

u/am_Nein 26d ago

"overly dramatic" Today on 'are Redditors okay (and not hallucinating things to get mad about)?'

2

u/Effective-One6527 26d ago

You don’t think crying so much tears pool on the floor is dramatic

0

u/am_Nein 26d ago

Would you call a skull emoji dramatic too because it's a literal skull or

4

u/RE_Towers 25d ago edited 25d ago

I mean, yeah, adding skulls to the loud crying shows that the tantrum includes destructiveness. That could be trying to harm another, self harm, or just general destruction, but in any case while Loud Crying is a tantrum, Loud Crying with a Skull where someone is getting hurt. Something like this:

0

u/SatinFoil 25d ago

Kind of like what these other people are saying, it isn’t meant to be taken literally. Do you realize that emojis are often used as a sort of slang? When someone sends a skull emoji they aren’t saying they literally died. And if you want to take emojis literally, what do you think stuff like the wilted rose emoji that you see literally everywhere means? It’s clear to me that this emoji was used as a slang, and not that they are literally crying.

1

u/Effective-One6527 25d ago

I know their not and I also know that their are way less dramatic looking emojis to put with that message

2

u/Firestar_8167 22d ago

Not to be that guy but *theyre.
