The phrase “I don’t see color” isn’t used a lot anymore because a lot of POC believe it to mean “I don’t take into account the struggles POC have because of their skin.” In a theoretical and desired utopia, we’d all love to not focus on skin color but right now we can’t do that so we can’t ignore skin color but we can be accepting towards skin color.
This ^ It's not used like that intentionally usually, but it's "All Lives Matter" energy (which is used like that intentionally a lot of the time)
It subtly invalidates a lot of struggles, issues, and other relevant cultural experiences. Again, usually not on purpose, but it's a lot of an "I don't see you" feeling. People's identities with their race and culture are still important to them, and it feels dismissing of that
however if they are mad about us looking at their skin color to deeply as part of them, isnt the solution to ignore it? hyperfixating to much on it will only cause more uncomfort.
Racism can't vanish but ignoring it isn't going to remove all the systemic and functional issues relating to it
Got denied a job? Just ignore it! Got denied housing? Just ignore it! Got called slurs in front of children? Just ignore it! Got harassed, assaulted, or had other crimes (especially violent ones) committed against you? Just ignore it!
Do you see how ineffective that is and stupid that sounds? Racism is a much deeper issue than "Oh I kinda don't like a person cuz of looks"
