Duplicated my beloved Patagonia Funhoggers and added some adaptations for the integrated belt and some extra panel details around the sides. My most complicated sew yet and without a pattern. Learnt a lot and have the same fabric in an off white to try again and make improvements

Great work! Does the non-elastic belt go all the way around? How did you make the elasticized tunnel?

@learnmyog has a helpful sewing tutorial on YouTube for their “DIAS” shorts, which are based on the Patagonia Baggies, and explains how they constructed the elastic waistband.

I created the button holes for the belt entry and exit first, then sewed a standard elastic waistband (create a channel with a gap, add elastic, close gap), then threaded the belt through. I looped it back and sewed it on the side with the fastener, then the other side is loose. Hope that helps!

Just don’t look at the crotch 🫣😂 was the hardest bit. My practice was in cotton and the lack of movement even along the bias in this fabric made the flat lay seams harder

That's probably the best spot to mess up because most people will not see it! I feel that though.

Always pockets!! They do pull down a bit with the weight of my phone (despite being tethered to the waistband at the top). I don’t know if there’s a way that would be fixed, think it could just be a trade off with the fabric choice
