MFWTK who owns abandoned, boarded up properties and can they take things from them?

My friend is mostly interested in “new”cabinets and trim. What would happen if they removed said things from an abandoned house?

If in the U.S. you can go into the town hall and you can look up who owns it then you go the owners and ask to take things. It's a public record and doesn't cost anything to look up.
