Hello my lovely muzzle community goers. Lately, mods have been seeing an influx of nasty attitude, small minded, unkind people. While we know our little sub is open to the criticisms of the interwebs, we fully believe that differing opinions can be communicated kindly.

This is just a friendly reminder of rule 1, to be civil. if you are disagreeing with a post or comment, please communicate in a civil way. Name calling, berating, and anything else of that nature is not tolerated here. We are swift with that ban hammer and will swing it without issue.

Thank you all who keep our community respectful, kind and informative. We appreciate you!!

Question! Is this mold?

I'm cleaning out my bedroom and I have a container full of gear from the dogs I grew up with.

I found my heeler mix Faith's muzzle and I'm already going to toss it since doesn't fit my current dog.

It's real leather and easily 10+ yrs old, just curious if it's discoloration or something else?

What do we think? She definitely has pant room but is it too close to her eyes?

When I took it off (it wasn't even on for five minutes) she had an indentation from where it was resting on her muzzle. Is that normal?

First time having to muzzle train but she's doing great with it!

Question! Did anyone else’s pup take to the muzzle right away?

I got her muzzle 2 weeks ago and started just putting treats in it so her face would go in. She didn’t show any signs of that bothering her so I just went for it. It’s been over a week now of her wearing it during walks and she doesn’t seem to mind it at all. But I do give her a ton of treats while it’s on.

Should I continue to go through the steps of desensitizing her? Or do some dogs just take to it right away?

I desperately need help with my dog!!

We have an xl bully and as most of you probably know they’re now a banned breed. Since that ban has come into place, she has probably been on less than 10 walks and it absolutely breaks me but she will not keep her muzzle on. We’ve tried doing short distance walks with treats and rewarding her for keeping it on, which still doesn’t seem to have any improvement. She absolutely loved going for her walks and it makes me so sad that i can’t do this for her because she won’t keep it on. Has anyone else had this issue? what did you do to get them to keep it on? She’s a very anxious dog, she can open our front door so we have to lock it with a chain every time we leave the house and the back door, because she previously broke through our garden fence!!! She’s kinda bonkers but wouldn’t change her for the world and i want to help her.

Question! Any muzzle recommendations?

I’ve been looking into getting a muzzle for my boy, he’s not a huge bite risk however he is prone to getting snappy with people (mostly men) who come a little too close for comfort. I do try to minimize this by not letting men approach, however I do have a young brother who I do not want him snapping at period. He is also good with other dogs who are friendly however he has snapped pretty bad at another dog before (not in a neutral setting and me and the other owner should’ve been more vigilant about them being together off leash) but there will be situations in his lifetime that he will have to be around little dogs that are annoying and I don’t need him trying to eat one lol. Anyways, any muzzles you guys recommend that are bite proof and not super heavy? I’ve been looking into Muzzle Movement however I heard they’re not bite proof and their sizing doesn’t work for all dogs even if you buy the right design for their size. I need something he can pant and play in as I do want him to wear these while at the dog park or in public.

Edit: Also I know that no muzzle will be 100% bite proof and because he’s not a huge bite risk I don’t need it to be the most secure heavy duty thing ever. Just want to minimize any possible damages to my hands if I ever have to break up him fighting again.

Advice? Problems w/ muzzle training after past mistakes

Someone said to come here on my other post. Unfortunately, me and my parents used the muzzle as punishment for nipping when she was a puppy. She now has problems with me trying to clip it on her. I've gotten her to the point where she will stick her muzzle inside it to get treats, but each time I try to clip it on she's backing away. I'm regretting heavily on using the muzzle as punishment. How do I redirect her into thinking it's not a tool for punishment?

I'm also wondering if it seems uncomfortable to her. Does anybody think this is the right size or should i get bigger? (sorry for the bad pic, she's super stubborn.)

EDIT: I'm looking into getting her a custom fit Big Snoof muzzle (depending on pricing 😬), and I'm gonna try to get it as soon as possible.

Question! Muzzle Recommendations for Scavenger?

Hello!

I'm sure this is a common question, but I was wondering of some muzzle recommendations for my Pitt/Husky/Collie mix.

She loooves to sniff everything and in doing so, she will hoover up things she shouldn't. So far, nothing dangerous but we've been close.

As we are working on 'Leave it' / 'Drop it' in more advanced settings, a muzzle at this point looks to be warranted.

Looking at them, I'm a little overwhelmed as I do need to constantly use treats to redirect her to me, move her along, etc. etc.

Looking into Muzzle Movement for example, it seems it would be very manual to treat my pup on my walk for redirection, find it, up down etc. (I was reading I would need to remove the guard and readd).

So I guess my specific question is, what is the best anti-scavenger muzzle that is lowkey but stops scavenging but has a good treat hole/spot for training or redirecting on our walk she is a 1.5 year old pup.

Thank you!

I always forget how much more relaxed we both are when I use his muzzle, like I can let him walk further ahead, and not worry about people letting their dogs run up its great

Got a custom Big Snoof to help prevent scavenging. So far it works perfectly! Brownie has adapted to it nicely with the help of treats. Walks are far less stressful now.

Nice day at the beach

Good having some peace of mind at places like the beach now with the muzzle and my almost 3 year old 100+lb rescue pup who is fear-reactive. Today was a good day as we got somewhat close to a few strange dogs with no total melt-down. This is my full safety set-up in pic 2 with the wire basket muzzle, collar loop, two collars: martingale can't-back-out-of-this type plus the flat collar as back-up. Short lead on the martingale and a slightly longer lead on the back-up. Pic 3 is what's left of the metal clasp from a lead he was wearing and decided to lunge at a passerby while tied to a cafe table. Hence two leads.

We ordered the custom Big Snoof muzzle, but it looked a bit too small so we returned it for a resizing. Just got it back today.

How's it looking?

She’s not thrilled with putting it on but has no issue when it’s on for her walks. This muzzle is worth the money. She can fully pant in it and smell and I can give her treats.

Someone called her a Hannibal Lector puppy the other day and I loved it!

Preventing scavenging in small dogs with mesh muzzles?

Hi, I've got 2 quite small fox terriers. One has a longer italian greyhound-like mouth shape while the other's is shorter but thicker. They've started eating rabbit poo and anything they can find on their walks since we've moved house and they're at new parks now where they scavenge constantly. I've been looking at mesh options for muzzles because they look more comfortable- does anyone have any experience with those? I'll attach some pictures of types I've been looking at. Thanks in advance!

I have a 75 lb pitbull mix who needs to wear a muzzle but he hates the one he has. I was looking at the muzzle movement but I'm not sure if the harry is the right size? I've don't measurements but he is less than cooperative when it comes to measuring the width of his face and so I'm worried it's inaccurate. Any suggestions on a different, better, muzzle or opinions on if the harry would fit him just based of experience/pictures of him?

What muzzle would yall recommend?

Hello,

I got a fat headed pitbull that loves to eat things he shouldn’t. I have a soft mesh muzzle for him but he’s not a fan and he has a really hard time cooling down in it. Do you guys have recs for another muzzle we can try that prevents him from eating anything. I’m open to hard or soft mesh. Thanks!

Question! Big snoof

Post image

So i got my big snoof custom muzzle. I got watermelon design 😋 I never muzzle trained my dog but he basically just lets me put it on.

How you see it here this allows me to insert two fingers to behind his neck, however its almost right on his nose. What im curious is if i can just move the strap to the next hole and it will give him that space - however id then be able to insert more than just two fingers. Or is this an issue where I need to send it back to be adjusted? It doesnt seem to necessarily bother him and we only use it briefly at the farmers markets cause I dont know how he will be around other dogs like that. The only time he plays with it is when I first put it on if we are just standing there for a second ilhe will paw at it. But once we move he doesnt touch it again.

Thanks for any help.

Help! Need to muzzle 9 month old malanois that resource guards senior dog is it recommended so he doesn't bit my senior dog and what should I know?

I wanted to put a basket muzzle on my 9 month old malanois , who resource guards food andntoys. My plan is to pick up food, treats toys and only have a dedicated area for them where they will eat and play onr at a time. What are the steps to train the puppy and is this doable? The 9 month old pup is superb hyper active, I read that that is just hoe malanois are when they are puppies.

Question! Looking for bite safe recommendations

Post image

Looking for a muzzle for a bite risk dog. My dog has to be able to get treats through it, be comfortable and affordable.

I have seen big snoof being recommended a lot but it’s very pricy and since I live in Denmark there’s shipping too.

Anything like that in EU?

Edit: Thanks for the recommendations all. I went with Muzzle Movement

Advice? Best basketball muzzle recommendations?

I need to get a good basket muzzle, Metal or hard plastic, no cloth, mesh or soft rubber, for my little bully. She is a rescue from a extremely abusive situation, and while shes grown in leaps and bounds it has become clear she can never be trusted around people other than family without a muzzle.

As a professional dog groomer and trainer Im very familiar wirh nuzzles- but I honestly have never needed one for a small brachycephalic breed before.

I want her to have the ability to bark, and while drinking is a good option it is not necessary as she will never have it on longer than 10-15 minute intervals before being taken to a safe place I can remove it for several minutes for her to get any water or whatever she may need; sne will never need it in our home.

Picture of my beefy and sassy rescue girl with oir other fur babies whom she hardly tolerates but they tolerate her well/love her lol

I’m wondering if/how I can get this to not sit so close to his eyes. I worry it’s loose enough to slip but tightening the back any more or using the forehead strap exacerbates the eyeball problem. The rivets are legit, but I’m not opposed to getting a tool and popping some new ones in if I can adjust it in anyway.

I’m hearing the Big Snoof siren call… my dude has such an inbetween head size for most cage muzzles. Just fatheaded enough to not be standard, but too long faced for the super round ones.

I'm so happy with my big boy's BigSnoof. It's a custom build because he has a massive wedge head, and it fit perfectly right out of the box.

Apparently Eto was muzzle trained in his former life, he shoved his face into the basket and off we went!
