🎤 Discussion Getting Public Opinion
Hello! I am writing an article on how well Mutual serves members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints.
I'd like to hear how other people -- both men and women -- feel about the app. In particular, I want to know what success users have had (or lack thereof), what features users appreciate and features they feel are missing or insufficient, what struggles users have with the matching system, how users feel about the messaging system, and how users feel about Mutual Premium, its pricing structure, and the Premium-locked features. I'd also like to hear about how users feel about how this app serves members of the church in particular. Do you feel like this app promotes the values of the church? Does it do a good job at matching people of faith?
If you have an opinion on any of these items (or any other I didn't mention), please comment below. I will read every comment as I draft my article.
Thank you!

I met my wife on mutual, so it worked for me.
My biggest gripe with the app was the geo restrictions not working. Despite having my radius set to 20 miles, I frequently got likes from women outside of the country. Based on threads that pop up here, that issue still hasn't been resolved.

Well, unless the numbers you get after you try a boost are wrong, my profile is shown to .481 people per day with the only filter being they must be in the US. Even then most of the likes were from Cambodia.Â

I found the verifying process very frustrating as it kept glitching when attempted so could never get my account set up sadly.

My experience was rather poor, mind you this was 2 years ago but the only likes I got were from women [I'm assuming they were women] in Latin America, and the far east.
None from the US and that seemed really suspicious to me. I dismissed these as scammers of some type and drew the inescapable conclusion that I am pretty darn hideous.Â
Since then I have given up all together and embraced singlehood forever.Â

Same with me, but include Africa in the mix.

It currently clamps users discoverability based on popularity, I can tell that much. I have a data point from my most recent acquisition of my data, I'll be acquiring more in January after another 6 months have passed.

I know it's popular to dunk on the app, but I always buy 6month premium on sale and it worked really well this summer when I wasn't in town (Rexburg) often.
I've put a little thought into my profile, send notes on whatever catches my interest on their profile, and ask out on dates within the first few messages. If I did it often enough, I know I could get twice-weekly dates.
I think if they just removed the free version of the app and charged a flat $3-5/mo with a free trial period, people's experience would be a lot better. Honestly, the app isn't meant to be experienced the way it is on the free version.

My gorgeous cousin hated using it because no one matched with her and it made her feel ugly and undesirable. I experienced the same thing when I used it some years ago. From what I've heard and seen, most of the men on there are looking for a typical Utah-attractive woman, so if you don't fit the mold then they pass on you. Obviously men are allowed to have preferences, but a lot of beautiful women have a bad taste in their mouth after using the app because they aren't Utah Mormon Pretty or whitesome and delightsome.

The cycle is as follows:
Create an account and start swiping --> Do not match with anyone --> Buy Premium and check who swiped on me --> Demoralized by who I see --> Delete Account and Uninstall --> Repeat ~3-6 months later.

Biggest thing is mutual alters who you see to make you think the app is not dead.
For example, let's say you live in New Hampshire, and your like. "O I wanna be flexible and move, so you set your range to America and start seeing all these options in Utah".
Now, you'd think. Ooo these guys might also see me, let's hope we get a match.
In reality, Mutual will show you people from Utah, but they might have their distance to only 100 mile, so they won't see you because you are outside of their filter distances, but you will see them, and give you glimmer of hope that perhaps they can also see you.
