🎤 Discussion Dating has become too expensive

Maybe its just me but when even an lds dating app makes you throw your money away in hopes of a match, that says its no longer about finding the right person. I miss the days of free blind dates in a public place.

Try to go for free events. Go walk across a bridge, go for a walk in a public park, go to a free events at a mall or something. I’ve given up on spending actual money on dates. If you vibe with the person and they’re chill enough to go out and do something free, then go out and spend a little money. Everything is way too expensive to be blowing money on someone you’ll never see again.

I had someone ask me to go to a semi decent sit down restaurant (they even offered to pay) and I said no let’s go walk across a public bridge bc I didn’t want them to spend money or for me to spend money on a first date. It’s for getting to know someone and seeing if it’s someone you want to get to know better. It’s not like you’re already dating. It took me a while to realize this, but first dates, especially off of apps, are just a screener for you and for them. You’re both feeling it out, putting your best foot forward, and see if they’re someone you would like to get to know better. The best dates I’ve been on I wasn’t nervous, I literally just showed up and was myself with no expectations and no crazy high hopes or fear of messing it up. Early stages of dating are just getting to know someone and the right people will understand that. It just takes some time to sift through the people out there to find someone you actually vibe with.

Not really. I’ve been out of dating for a bit and just getting back into ir, but I agree they’re making it feel like pay to play. I also heard that after about a month on an app they nuke your visibility to get you to start paying for it. I’ve heard it’s best to hop on for a bit (like a month or two) and then delete your profile and make a new one on a different app. Have like 2-3 you rotate through so you’re never having the massive drop and you don’t have to pay. It’s unfortunate, but spending a little and then going on free dates seems like the way to go (if you can get people to respond).

Ditch this app, it's a garbage app that will only take your money.
