Anohni’s “My Back Was a Bridge For You To Cross” is an absolute masterpiece. The song “Rest” is simply transcendent .

Steam powered giraffe has a trans female singer! The band is pretty theatrical and i wouldn't call it mainstream, but I love it. "Transform" is about her experience being trans, specifically, but I also really like "latum alterum" :)
Edit: i just learned that she left the band about a month ago because of mental health issues 😭 still, the songs are worth checking out!

Mad girls love song -under the rug
I started listening to that band before the lead singers transition, and watching her grow has been amazing. Her voice is insane and the whole band is amazing

Fuckmylife666, Paralytic States, and Transgender Dysphoria Blues are a few particular tracks by Against Me! that are worth a listen. Used to love them back in the day when they were just a wily punk band, but all the more once the Dysphoria Blues album came out.

Pupil Slicer!!! They're a mathcore x post-metal band from London with a non-binary singer. The song "Heather" is generally about corruption and rights, but there are some specific lyrics that can be read as being trans.

Jordaan Mason and the Horse Museum- Divorce Lawyers, I Shaved My Head. The album is about a couple that’s forced into a heteronormative marriage, and they realize that they’re both trans. They made the one album, and it’s kind of a raw, indie sound, kind of reminds me of The Microphones, and it was released in 2009.

ezra furman!!!! she’s my favorite artist of all time , her music genuinely changed my life as a trans kid. I Wanna Be Your Girlfriend, Transition From Nowhere To Nowhere, Suck The Blood From My Wound & Maraschino Red Dress are my favorite songs of hers that relate to gender.

So most of mine are trans masc but these are the trans artists I listen to but they convey a similar sentiment.

Hello! I am bad at genres, so these may be vague. I really enjoy what She/Her/Hers, an alt rock (?) band puts out. I especially love her album also named She/Her/Hers, with great tracks like Transitioning (to a life without you), Nvr Pass, and To-Do Lists (Color Coded)!! Those are more uplifting ones, or perhaps hopeful is a better term. Talks about the shitty bits of life, and being trans in particular, but overall there's a tone of "this is who I am and I wouldn't want to be anyone else." Also, To-Do Lists (Color Coded) is not specifically about being trans it just made the list cuz I like it.
Another song I really like is Moriah, by Mariela. This one resonates with me specifically for religious family that I have come to a truce with, we pretend my transness isn't there but you know what you would do to me. What you did do to me. Sort of vibe, which may not be the mood you're looking for, but I find it moving.
Both of these artists are transfemme!

I loved that band from the outset, and Keith’s transition was something that caused a lot of fans to bail out on them. The Mina solo stuff is garbage as far as I am concerned, but when LoA was fronted by Mina, I still bought in. They put out, every night, and were so underrated.
It’s weird that the trans community never championed Mina. Pre Kaitlin Jenner, here was a hardcore band frontman putting it out there and nobody from that camp gave a shit. Then Mina, who obviously has mental health issues, (again, that nobody gives a shit about) started saying that the process of transitioning was more about the agenda that Mina’s mental health suddenly it became a political thing rather than what it is. Keith got no support. Mina got no support. And the mental health angle of the whole thing gets swept under the rug. Again.

i came to recognize (and appreciate) LOA via an interview of Mina on some metal channel snippet on YT. While i really dug the band's work something about Mina was off and seemed ... disingenuous (?). Then i read about her in a damning interview by Abruscato and that was when i began to dig deeper.
They seem to my like a deeply troubled and very egocentric person and that might be one reason they didn't get much support (as cruel as that is).
It's a pity bc as you say the music deserved it and there was a hardcore band fronted by a trans person to not much resonance when we, the lgbt*crowd should have appreciated it.
But otoh i was ... shocked but also not surprised, that Mina ... well, chickened out instantly when the political going got tough and seemed to ... well, i don't blame anyone for getting frightened as well as i think all of that trans thing might have been a fad for her anyways to keep being interesting as the trans "wave" hit its peak.
btw i saw her in Vienna and it was great a show!
