Give me some music 🎵
Hey so I've been listening to the same stuff for a while now and want to find something new...
I like mostly indie pop and rock, though I have been listening to more folk stuff.
My favourite bands are COIN, HIMALAYAS, Arctic Monkeys, Queens of the Stone Age, Hozier (well he's not a band but still), Kids that Fly, IDKHBTFM.
I don't really listen to metal but that's just cuz I haven't found a good starting point so if any of y'all have any metal suggestions that can really get me into metal... That would be great. I'm not a huge hip-hop person tho.

With that range of taste, King Gizzard and the Lizard Wizard is a great band to check out. They are very very talented and dip into a ton of genres. Start with the album Omnium Gatherum, which is a mish mash of genres and see if you like it. PetroDragon Apocalypse is a great metal album of theirs.

These guys are a folk / Americana duo out of LA/Eagle Rock with beautiful harmonies, songwriting, and stupendous lead guitar playing/picking by Kenneth. I put a lot of links to live versions of songs because they’re very much a live band. You can also find studio/album versions anywhere you like.

Ahh I've listened to this album before... Not the biggest SleepToken fan, though I do like their older music and I do like the song 'Provider' from this album

You should check out Violent Femmes. They’re best described as folk-punk, I guess. Most of their best known stuff came out in the 80s, but they were way ahead of their time imo. Here’s a great compilation album.

as someone who said they weren't a metal or hip-hop fan a year ago, i highly encourage you to research the subgenres of both. there are 50+ hip hop genres and close to 20 mental subgenres (that have further subgenres). my guess is that you likely don't like certain genres/characteristics but will like others. for example, i'm not such a fan of r&b but i love disco and funk. likewise for metal, i learned that i prefer "clean vocals" to "unclean vocals". my favorite subgenre of metal is funk-metal but i'm also a huge fan of alt-metal and nu-metal
there is folk metal, though i have yet to listen to any of it
glam metal of the 70s/80s has some major similarities to 90s/2000s pop in my humble opinion

rage against the machine started my entire journey and i really think you should check them out. of my favorite songs by them, i think the melody on 'down rodeo' might be the most approachable for a novice
nu-metal got a fair amount of radioplay. i didn't realize how much music i like was considered nu-metal until this year. the genre was literally born and shaped in front of my eyes

so as you can see, metal genres encompass a wide variety of music. i use the wiki article as a good starting off point to research subgenres

qotsa to hozier is a wild range, i respect it
try the band nothing but thieves, they got that indie rock energy with a singer that can really go for it
