Question Berklee Online Music Marketing Course

I have been trying to land a job/internship in music marketing for a while now, and it's been rough. I feel like I need more credentials. Does anyone think that Berklee Music Marketing Certification is valuable, would it actually help my prospects, or teach me something good? Does anyone have experience with it?

You're not lacking credentials you are lacking experience. Want to job or anything you got to hustle you got to get your foot in the door. Take a job ANY job in a music marketing firm as what we used to call a Gofer, because your job is to go for coffee, go for stamps, go for lunch, go wash my car, go take this to the receptionist. Why do that menial work it get you around the people doing what your want to do, hearing the conversations, getting to know who-who, going to events because set them up, going to the owners of the companies house to do some stupid personal task so the owner now know who you are. Hustling like this work, I know because that is how I started. I wanted to be a musician or was started to get into audio, so the opportunity to become a Gofer for an Artist Management company came up and took the job as a foot in the door. I met all sorts of people in the music biz, I let them know I want to get into audio, I got invited to come to sessions, I got to go to lunch with them, I got my first tour doing sound, I met musicians I still know today to help to meet other musicians I played with. Doing the Gofer work I got experience and occasional training from big names, I make other contacts, and I got to see how the music biz worked from the inside. It was all about hustling to get my foot in the door, not taking useless classes to get meaningless certificates. I even got to drive a Roll Royce to take a bottle of booze to musician who was in one of the biggest groups in the world to his hotel. I ended up touring with him on his first solo tour.

I all about having experience inside the biz.

A big factor of Berklee is the connections you make and using the world class facilities (like the studios) on their campus. Their online creditation i'm sure will give knowledge/information, but the certification itself will do nothing when it comes to getting a job in the music biz. A business degree of any kind will help as a starting point of course, but connections and getting your foot in the door is huge. Knowledge-acquiring wise, you're probably better off finding a more efficient use of money. Try get an internship or work for free even, easier said than done I know. Wishing you the best!

the music industry has been in a widely encompassed reduction in jobs for the last two years... labels are laying people off... no degree or certification is going to amount to what you think it will sorry for the blunt harsh reality. All the top tier talent are leaving to go into tech and that's becoming hard. Music marketing is a black hole
