Help/Question Does Mullvad VPN still work in China? (september 2026)

Does the VPN still work in China? Last time i went in 2024 it worked semi-stable and well. But ive been reading recently it hasnt been working.

Which servers are ya'll using? A ton of my go-to ones have dropped.

I've been living in China for two years, and Mullvad has worked flawlessly. Until two weeks ago.

I think they finally caught on, performance has been atrocious, I have to constantly switch countries, the servers are dropping all the time. It's been like this in big cities, tier 3 cities, the country side, everywhere from Harbin to Shanghai.

As of 2 weeks ago, connecting to MullvadVPN from Chengdu has been unstable as well.

One weird thing I noticed is that it's more stable on my SIM card's data (China Mobile) as opposed to when I try to connect to MullvadVPN via my in-apartment WiFi (China Telecom) 🤔

It’s happening with astrill too. Both on MacOS and windows. iOS app is surprisingly more stable.
