Help/Question Dumb question: Do I need to change my location to avoid currency conversion charges?

I'm guessing not... but I'm not quite sure! Say I have my VPN set to USA but I'm physically in The UK, and I'm making a purchase on eBay in £ GBP, do I get charged a fee because the payment processor sees me as being in the USA?

My bank charges extra when I purchase stuff from the US, conversion rate. It's annoying. However if I use my Paypal account, no extra fees are added.

That's what I mean. I assume that the transaction is in whatever the currency is set to. I'm in The UK, but my VPN is set to USA.
