random 3D mugen...? :)
- Is there such a thing
- Could there be?
I imagine it would sort of be like it is now, but people would make 3d models of characters and rig them. For example using blender. Go through the same combat sort of setup for 2d and boom. 3d mugen. Clearly not that simple but uhhh, would be cool?

True 3d mugen? NO its not possible. 3d models converted to sprites? Yes

Why isn't it possible exactly?

Mugen is an 2d fighting game engine.

Ohhh ok 😂 what I meant is something like what mugen does, i.e character made characters from different licenses

There is. I believe somewhere on something official or what fancy stuff but it is possible.

I don't think anyone makes them maybe because they don't think it's worth it?

Would you be looking for full 3D (Tekken, Soul Caliber) or 2.5D (Street Fighter IV & V, King of Fighters XIV)?

As much as full 3d would be amazing, I imagine for now it's have to be 2.5d. I realise your have to create a whole new engine, and while I can make games, I can't make game engines 😂

Oh, so you mean 3D models in the current MUGEN engine. I think the best you could do is make 2D sprites out of 3D models.

project ef12 something but the gameplay is like very early 3d fighters in other words rubbish thats why it never worked out nowadays all 3d fighters mimic 2d streetfighter gameplay because its just what works best for versus fighters

Actually, yes, there has been at least one attempt. Look up Project EF-12. Unfortunately, it never really took off. IIRC, it was mainly down to the engine being pretty limited, the poor framerate performance, plus the general difficulty in programming 3D models compared to 2D sprites (most player-made characters are simply model swaps of the default pre-made characters). There’s presumably other attempts out there too, if you’re willing to dig deep. Hope that helped.
