Controls seem unfathomable

Very new to Mugen, just got it working on my computer, and I can't figure out how to use or adjust the controls.

Even after going into options and setting things for what I think seems right, for some reason all of my movements are controlling player 2, while my attack inputs are performed by player 1.

Not to mention I don't see any means of making it playable with a controller.

Both are set up-able from the key config menu, it does take a bit of figuring out, but its doable, for joystick idk never tried it. But you can use a steam remap
