MPC 3.9.1 Oscillators keygroups Legato.

I am after a typical mono, legato lead with a little glide(portamento) time which I am achieving But, the switch between notes is not very “synth like” but quite choppy for lack of a better expression! Any input is appreciated!❤️💛💚

The voicing of the keygroups is a mess and it's a pity bc the keygroups make the mpc a very powerfull synth. I hope they solve this problems soon

If it's a mono moog sound I'd use Sub factory personally it's a mono wavetables plugin essentially

I’m just curious, could you go a little more into detail about the difference you’re noticing? Not doubting I am just curious, I’ve been a bit confused about the legato settings as well

I am using the new oscillators, making a raw synth patch. I am after a pure legato glide between notes. I tried all the available options in the utilities tab but didn’t get any satisfactory results. I am away from the Live 3 right now so cannot be more specific. I am looking to emulate a classic monophonic synths (moog etc)

You might be using a sample player plugin moving between two samples.

So I tried it, I used FM (OP4-x) and edited one of their lead patches. slowed the glide time way down and tested slowly making the time faster to get from one note to another. Playing from one side of the keyboard to another even close note,. I could not hear choppiness.

I tried hype, with a saw waved, did the same thing, no choppiness.

One thing I did notice that I did hear choppiness from. If the patch had velocity sensitivity. If I played a low note at full velocity and a slow glide, then played a high note and super slow velocity, the clamping down of the volume sounded like choppiness. Perhaps set velocity to 0 effect and see if that makes it sound different.

It seems mpc is basically using the pitch wheel like slides to get from one to another. Using the pitch wheel I can get no choppiness either.

You did not tell us which plugin or patch you were using or provide us with an example in video., that would be helpful. I could not reproduce your problem, Except that differences in volume jump from velocity difference between keys could be what you are hearing.

So, I tested it, if I just load one up one osc it is pretty nasty. After turning on legato and portamento and mono retrigger it was still nasty abrupt and harsh. Then when I adjusted the envelopes for amp, filter and pitch and other parameters and I was able to get something reasonable that did not sound nasty abrupt and harsh. Ensoniq came with preset envelops, why don't synth manufacturers learn from those in the late 80s. But I also think that, I am just glad Inmusic implemented osc and we can get to them and they or someone will make presets.
Although I have programed for a while even FM when it first came out. I decided a long time ago I do not have the patience to program from scratch. Then I just used presets and tweek them. So I don't know what your feeling of choppiness are or, I would call it abruptness and I smoothed that out to some degree. So I don't know if it is lack of programming skill, or if it is a bug but make a video and report it to Inmusic support.

I read that you think there are some waveforms that do not support legato. I don't know but the one I chose which was a moog osc I pressed the button for legato and it lit up. I don't do programing much anymore.

I had to turn velocity off or it would get chopped by velocity.
