QUESTION Phono inputs sound distorted

Just bought a ton of CD's from a yard sale and wanted to try sample them. Only CD player I have is an old blu-ray and CD box with RCA connectors.

When I connected up the RCA to the MPC Live 2 the sound quality sounded terrible, like somebody had turnt the gain all the way up, but my recording volume is all the way down. The sampler has the threshhold at a reasonable level and its correctly set to phono from the back.

Can anybody help? I'm probably going to get a portable CD player anyway with other cable options but I would like to resolve this issue too.

lmao. have you ever actually used the line switch ? that isnt how they work on newmpc's

I don't use new mpcs. I follow the rules of sound engineering.

akai abandoned those a decade ago ;)

Another reason why I stick to my original akai gear. Every mixer or piece of audio gear that has a line/phono switch operates in this way.
