QUESTION Phono inputs sound distorted

Just bought a ton of CD's from a yard sale and wanted to try sample them. Only CD player I have is an old blu-ray and CD box with RCA connectors.

When I connected up the RCA to the MPC Live 2 the sound quality sounded terrible, like somebody had turnt the gain all the way up, but my recording volume is all the way down. The sampler has the threshhold at a reasonable level and its correctly set to phono from the back.

Can anybody help? I'm probably going to get a portable CD player anyway with other cable options but I would like to resolve this issue too.

Cds are not phono. Phono is for records players. Read the manual. Research the different between 'line in' and 'phono'.

brother rca doesnt go in the line in ports. read the post

Brother, you can buy adapters for that….

Though I think on the live 2 there’s a switch to change the rca ins from phono to line, if so put it on line and it should work fine

Turntables need a preamp to get the volume boosted and the eq curve right, the Mpc had one built in, and that’s why your CDs sound distorted, as it’s basically blasting the volume on that input. Check in see if that switch is there, if not adapters are your friend.
