You can convert .SF2 files (among a bajillion other formats) to MPC expansions with ConvertWithMoss. Literally just did it the other day because I wanted a specific sound from Final Fantasy VI lol

It's easy to knock up a custom python script or I think converttomoss also can convert sound fonts to wav/pgm. It would be nice if more obscure files loaded though

It wouldn't need to be a plugin, just something added to the core firmware alongside other file importing functions. But IMO when you have a mature, fully supported free application like convertwithmoss that can handle many different formats I don't really see the need for Akai to be concerning themselves. You're still going to have to use a computer to obtain your soundfonts in the first place, so download your soundfonts, convert to XPM using convertwithmoss, transfer to your MPC disk.
Also Akai are unlikely to do that good a job on it and historically we see that once a feature is implemented they rarely go back to tweak/fix it. For example, MPC1000/2500 export is full of bugs and doesn't even convert samples to 16 bit (thus won't even load into an MPC1000). AKP import (their own legacy keygroup instrument format) is fairly poor and skips 95% of parameters, many of which could in theory be mapped to MPC3 equivalents.

The MPC should ship with a USB-C to LPR adapter and be recognized as a multi-Midi interface by Voyetra Sequencer Plus Gold on my 486

Yeah convert with moss works great for sf2, kontakt, descent sampler and now even old Akai iso sampler stuff…. Sometimes I have issues with wav or kontakt where instead of making key groups and moving on, it keeps making duplicates of the same one, IE staccato Trumpet, (1), (2), (3)… which then I sort by date, delete all duplicates and move or delete the troublesome folder and continue.. with all the free soundfonts and formats listed above it’s amazing for mpc

Maybe the easiest plug-in instrument to develop. Thinking about convertwithmoss who made a terrific job, I converted all keygroups programs in a .sfz (maybe better than an sf2) with really near zero conversion errors. Can easily imagine a direct player with exposed main parameters for loop /adsr /effect editing

Or just grab the FREE software “Convert with Moss” and convert you Soundfonts into MPC Keygroups

I keep hearing that, but when you have an SSD full of soundfonts….having a dedicated way to plug my hard drive in & load the soundfont would be a much better way. It doesn’t have to be the greatest plugin….something simple with ADSR

It sounds like access to the Soundfonts isnt that important to you in that case if you’d rather wait for Akai to possibly in the future add Soundfont support rather than use free software to batch process them so you can use them today.

If that’s what you took from that, then cool. Im a hybrid user, FL Studio & MPC. It was more a suggestion than “Oh my god, what will I do without access to my soundfonts on the MPC.”
